Soul Calibur and Star Wars fans gather 'round -- while haters grab a six pack of Haterade and their always-ready flamethrowers -- because Namco Bandai has finally released new info on the rumored secret characters set to appear in their highly-anticipated fighter, Soul Calibur IV, and 1UP has 'em first. In case you don't believe your eyes as they scan over these screenshots, you are indeed seeing the legendary purveyor of the Dark Side, Darth Vader, and his Force-wielding nemesis, Yoda.

Yes, we know what you're thinking. You're thinking "What the hell are Darth Vader and Yoda doing in my Soul Calibur sequel?" But how are these two any less logical (or illogical) than Link or Spawn (we'll let Heihachi slide since he's in Tekken)? You're probably also wondering "Where the damn is Luke Skywalker, Darth Maul and Boba Fett?" Well, Boba Fett doesn't really use melee weapons, unless you count that stick on his back that he never uses. But Luke and Darth maul make a lot of sense. While we can't answer all of these questions just now, we suspect that Namco Bandai still has plenty of stuff up their sleeve. Given their recent Ace Combat 6 shenanigans, we wouldn't be surprised to learn that additional Star Wars characters are paid-for downloadable content. It's unlikely that the company would go through all these negotiations with LucasArts to obtain the rights to only two characters, so expect more announcements as we get closer to SCIV's release date.

I must confess I have difficulty imagining Darth Vader doing well in an extended fencing match due to the respirator and all.  The match he had on the second death star tired him out clearly and Luke wasn't fully trained whereas Vader was.

If you are not being responded to directly, you are probably on my ignore list.

Are they trying to suggest that PS3 is evil and XBOX is somehow good?  Why couldn't the ps3 get yoda and give Darth Vader to the xbox...

Also noticed the very green lightsaber that Yoda uses, matches the color of the whole xbox franchise.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I'm guessing you missed out on Soul Caliber 2 then.

Anyway I think it's pretty cool, but Yoda better be good (as he is in the Star Wars Films). Darth Vader looks pretty damn cool.

It is the power of the practitioners I doubt.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

That outfit of Tira's makes her look strangely like Vincent from FFVII.. wonder what fighting Yoda will be like, seems like you'd only be able to use crouch moves on him or something.

Doesn't lazer sword cut through metal? Then do they always kill all other characters with one attack?

Ah, I see someone has never played that old 'gem' (read: punchin yourself in the face is more fun) Star Wars Jedi Power Battles. That one taught us two things: 1) Lucas Arts can't make a good Star Wars game, and 2) Lightsabers, which cut through anything, can't cut through your basic battle droid.

As for 1 hit kills, I think most of the fighters would deal in some way, Voldo has a pedo-shield for instance.

uhmm sorry but what's wrong with Star War Jedi Power Battles ? Me and my friend played the whole game through in co-op, he had Plo Kon and i had Obi Wan, it was imo an amazing experience. But anyway man Vader looks badass, im glad i got a PS3.

    Wow that looks amazing!

Yeah pretty interesting but it's not going to make me piss my pants when it comes out.
To me it's just another idea to increase their sales since Soul Calibur Legends was so bloody horrible.
