Error 38

Does anyone know any fixes to this installation error? I've been looking for a few days and nothings come up that will fix it. I'd give more info, but I'm posting on 4 diff sites.

EDIT: ok removing one of my stupid RAM sticks fixed it. everything worked and WoW runs on 512mb. So mad, going to go yell at the people who sold me it.

Thanks for the reply, they have a test you can run... Everything failed. Except I don't know what to do now. The one sticky post just says test this with this program... Probably means I have to get a new hardware part... But why the hell does other stuff work -_-

this is what blizzard say about a 38.

    3. Installation Error 38

This error occurs only during installation, and it usually signifies faulty memory. The situations can vary, from improper configuration of RAM settings on the motherboard to mismatched RAM modules even faulty or failing RAM.

Example of the Error 38 message:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Q u o t e:

The installer was unable to read the file "C:Documents and SettingsDesktopWoW InstallerInstaller Tome.mpq". This error may be caused by problems with the media or drive at C:--for example, a scratched or dirty CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, hard drive corruption, or a networking problem while downloading the installer. (The data being read was "Repack-MPQData#terrain.MPQWorldMapsKalimdorKalimdor_34_31.adt", and the error code was 38.) If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (MPQFile::Read)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please run a memory scan to look for problems. A Microsoft memory testing tool can be found at the link below:

    http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Be certain to run the tool using the extended test suite by pressing T while the Windows Memory Diagnostic is running. In addition allow the memory testing tool to thoroughly test the RAM over a period of 2 hours.

You said the tests failed (mem test?).. if a memory test failed then you have an issue, and need new ram, the reason other game will run is becuase they dont use that portion of the memory that is damaged.

well i brought the game to a friends and copied out his WoW folder, I could log on and play except for the 1 char that I wanted to. Halfway through the loading screen it would crash. I ran repair... About 12 times give or take 2 and it finally finished. Anyways, then I couldn't go on any character so I reran it. Now I'm dling the patch 2.3. I hope it works.
