Well.. an internet group called Anonymous (4chan) this week declared war on the church of scientology. Releasing videos, and staff tutorials and pamphlets from the CHurch of scientology. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ
Their reasoning for the war? Its because of the illegal activities and deaths linked directly to the church.
BBC a little while ago tried to research the Church of Scientology on a program called Panorama.
here are the results.. (VERY VERY INteresting and SCarey MUST WATCH) PANORAMA
Here is a video documenting some of the deaths linked to the church. uk.youtube.com/watch
And here is a video from a reporter who tried to video tape a PUBLIC scientology gathering www.youtube.com/watch
here is a concise recollection of the life of a former scientology member. www.digg.com/world_news/Why_the_Cult_of_Scientology_Needs_to_be_Abolished
So... what do you guys think? Are you guys as worried as I am about this stuff?
here is the press release
"Anonymous" releases statements outlining "War on Scientology"
January 23, 2008
The Internet-based group "Anonymous" has released statements on YouTube and via a press release, outlining what they call a "War on Scientology". Church of Scientology related websites, such as religiousfreedomwatch.org have been removed due to a suspected distributed denial-of-service-attack (DDoS) by a group calling themselves "Anonymous". On Friday, the same group allegedly brought down Scientology's main website, scientology.org, which was available sporadically throughout the weekend.
Several websites relating to the Church of Scientology have been slowed down, brought to a complete halt or seemingly removed from the Internet completely in an attack which seems to be continuous. The scientology.org site was back online briefly on Monday, and is currently loading slowly.
On Monday, the group released a video titled: "Message to Scientology" on YouTube concerning their intentions to attack the Church of Scientology. A robotic voice on the video begins with "Hello leaders of Scientology. We are Anonymous," and continues by explaining their motivations: "Over the years we have been watching you, your campaigns of misinformation, your suppression of dissent and your litigious nature. All of these things have caught our eye. With the leakage of your latest propaganda video into mainstream circulation the extent of your malign influence over those who have come to trust you as leaders has been made clear to us. Anonymous has therefore decided that your organisation should be destroyed." The message goes on to state that the group intends to "expel Scientology from the Internet". As of Wednesday, the video had been viewed 370,347 times, favorited 2,473 times, and is currently YouTube's top third video of the day.

scientology is a bunch of bullshit.
All religions are BS.
Ron L Hubbard is on record as saying it was a scam he cooked up for $$.
Obviously Hubbard succeeded, though god knows how. Dianetics reads like the piece of really bad sci-fi that it is. Then Hubbard lost control of his organization, and it's been taken over by a scary, ruthless group of people that have been brainwashed by this cult every step of the way. And given that some of Hubbard's rules in the early days said that basically anyone not part of the CoS was an enemy, and therefore free game, they've done some despicable shit under those rules in their time. Including planning a raid on a US Gov't building
He eventually retracted his statements regarding his take no prisoners stance, but that didn't stop things like Operation: Freakout from happening.
There's plenty of other documentation on the shitte the CoS has been up to.
After reading through it, I firmly on the side of the people labeling them as an "Enemy of the State", and 4chan for going after them, since they've bought a free ride from our corrupt Gov't officials. I also applaud Germany for their effort in keeping the insidious CoS out of their country.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Game_%28Scientology%29
Hubbards "Fair Game" law, which is how the CoS handled(and still does) anyone that they felt was trying to curtail their operation. I like the part about 'exteriorizing' a persons Thetan by shooting them with a Colt .45, personally.
I state that everything go through different phases. One of them is the violent one where you test how far you can go to accomplish something with out punishment. This is the phase Scientology is in currently.
we're all "fair game" now. every time i watch pulp fiction, i now chuckle when vincent vega (john travolta) is killed. if jules hadn't quit the hitman game after witnessing divine intervention, he'd had lived and the boxer would have gotten killed inside the apartment.
at any rate, i also agree with the fellow who commented after me about all religions being bullshit.
i watched those video links and that cult frightens me even more. actually, i feel like posting posters saying "cult" in front of a cos building, along the PUBLIC sidewalk, in a city in which i used to reside.
since most religions have done worse things in most cases .. i guess i can say :
about the same i feel for any religion, pretty much nothing what-so-ever.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
The world is a different place today... No religion should do the things that scientology is doing today.. and if any religion DOES.. then the people shouldn't stand for it..

Scienology was created to be a cash cow, I dunno how it's managed to stay alive.
What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty?

no they shouldnt , but then admitting this is bad now they have to admit that their current religion is most likely built on history of these same actions and attitudes , if its bad now , it was bad then ,and who wants to admit that their faith is something based on these exact same flaws , weakness and ignorance.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
They are scary as hell, good that they aren't allowed in Germany.
I find Scientology scary too. But a country banning a religion, I find that even scarier.

Scientology isn't a religion really, it's a self-help service that extorts people until they run out of money and kills them, lol, even the Church of Scientology admits that it doesn't believe in the religious foundations in which it was initially created on.

It isn't counted as a religion because it doesn't meet Germany's criteria...the auditing sessions cannot be counted as worship for various reasons, one of Methane's videos talks about it.
Scientology sounds like a bad joke to someone who has never heard of it...I can't believe that it still exists, or that it ever had any real followers...just the one video with the guys asking the dude with the video camera "what have you done?...What are your crimes?" over and over as he brings up the crimes of Hubbard and others makes me wonder how anybody can take this stuff seriously...if these guys are the smartest and best debaters that scientology has to worry about, then nobody has anything to worry about.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

But, my point is this. Should a government be picking and choosing what is a religion and what isn't? Isn't that up to an individual to decide for himself?

I don't think it's real either. But my point was that it's not up to me or a government to decide that for another individual. I think it should be up to them.

Would you like it if i started a religion and got tax exempt status here in the States? I'm sure you won't mind while I mooch off of your tax dollars with my phony religion.

Heh i could start up the "Church Of The Shrike", at least thats based on a better Sci-Fi Novel.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
By the way:
6: religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
I took out the definitions that would serve to classify every single theistic belief or religion as a cult, since that would classify every person int he world as a cult member to some extent...but I did find these particular definitions particularly interesting.
Under German law, a cult cannot be recognized by the Government...they didn't create that law because of scientology, it was already in place, and they have decided that scientology so closely resembles their defenition of a cult that it cannot be classified as a religion.

I understand what you're saying, and no, I don't think the government should dictate what is and isn't a religion, but I do believe a certain level of common sense comes into play. If a kid came up to you with Legos and said his God is Morto the Lego King, you probably wouldn't recognize his religion as being real. In the case of Scientology, they have publicly abandoned their religious foundations; thus (in my opinion) giving the state reasonable cause to not recognize it as a real religion.

Heh, don't get me started on the tax exempt status of church's. I've never agreed with that. So, you ain't winning me over with that one.

Which is why the state shouldn't be in the religion business. Ain't separation of church and state a gorgeous thing?!
