koster speaks about avatar rights!

Providing backstory on the declaration of avatar rights: it was in context of a lot of abuses by companies. There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic. In that context it really is a question of rights. It was advice to virtual world admins: don't screw your users. Avatar to me is somewhat a crummy word because we get caught up in arguments about the definition of that is. You reach a point where the boundaries get really blurry. Could a character in an RPG fall under privacy law? Maybe.

Plenty of white papers exist on what courts decided in regards to anything virtual, privacy, what you can say, what you can name your avatar, and yes even how you act. Those pesky EULA's that have all that legal speak really sock it to you. there is no such thing as "time invested" that argument was shot down in the 2006 courts.

folks wondering what the deal is on virtual anything simply google virtual court decisions, or rights regarding virtual worlds and player rights (lol, player rights). the bottom line is the EULA. you can only do what the EULA grants. have a nice day. You dont like it, move along to a new game.

can you smell that?!!...............there is nothing quite like it.....................the smell of troll in the morning............i love that smell.

It doesn't  mean it has to remain  that  way in the courts.

It is time for Avatar rights !   without  them  to log in in an MMO World just makes no sense for a customer.

"Now the big thing is presence -- we see people here in this room whose physical presence may be here but mental presence is elsewhere."

these "mental presence" is what has to be  secured against  companies like $OE like you would 100% agree that this has to be secured elsewhere in every of your actions, if you buy something online or if  you buy something IRL.

The skills, items and all things my avatar earned in the MMO World its done because i was there. Would you like to destroy my house, my car,  my job IRL ?

btw Koster i love you for  "There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic. In that context it really is a question of rights." .......damn you $OE !!

    -----MY-TERMS-OF-USE--------------------------------------------------
$OE - eternal enemy of online gaming
-We finally WON !!!! 2011 $OE accepted that they have been fired 2005 by the playerbase and closed down ridiculous NGE !!

"There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." Raph Koster (parted $OE)
