GameGuard=Bad

Before you install this game, read up on GameGuard, just so you know what you are getting into.  That software basically sets itself up as a rootkit, hides itself, and watches everything going on in your computer.  It injects blocks of memory into every process on your system, cannot be killed, and pretty much has free reign over anything on your computer. It will even spontaneously reboot your PC if it sees something it doesn't like.

Even more fun, it doesn't go away after you exit the game. Even even more more fun fun, it doesn't uninstall itself when you uninstall the game.  You've got to manually delete its directories, wipe its drivers from the system32 directory, and wipe its registry keys from the registry.

I hate cheaters as much as any fair player, but this "prevention" method is far more invasive and persistent than it needs to be.

    I wish it were that easy.

    If your protection software denied installation of GameGuard then you wouldn't be able to run the game.  If you allowed the installation and then told your protection software to deny it access afterwards, you're too late.  GameGuard installs itself as a driver, and once done, it is outside the realm of the software's protection; the code runs in kernel mode if you understand what that means.

    It would be like installing a video driver and then telling your protection software not to allow the video driver to do anything. It's too late; the video driver is already running before the protection software gets a shot at it, and it can't block its access without removing the driver and rebooting the PC.

    GameGaurd is another piece of crap that these free, asian MMO's keep putting in there games.  Although they keep using it, it doesn't work for those hardcore rune-breakers out there.

    And it is a pain to uninstall as well.

    No, it has to be flushed manually. It's like a stubborn turd that refuses to go down.
