Played SWG from beta to CU, quit that, came back to it, saw the NGE, quit that. Went to WoW, played that for far too long, once I was 70 I realized exactly the mess that it really is.
Deleted my SWG characters and WoW characters because the temptation was great.
I played *gasp* World War II Online, used to love it, just can't get into it now.
Tried the City of Heroes trial, couldn't stand it because it honestly does a terrible job of teaching you anything at the start, you definitely need a manual for that game. Plus, I just didn't like how it looked.
Thought about the Matrix, laughed and then thought about EQ2, had a nice shudder, and I'm faced with this being nearly my last option. I liked Eve, except for the real time skill system, paying money to wait for the skill I need doesn't seem fun.
But I do like my Lord of the Rings books and I didn't complain about the films, except for how cramped my seat was in the cinema, so...here goes nothing.
I hope it's fun, after seven days I'll have a fair idea of how it works, and how it will turn out to be overall...I think?

I've been playing LOTRO for a few months now, and almost every day I come across an 'ooooh' moment, where I learn something new, or see something new that only increases my excitement. Honestly, I love the game.
It turns out that it's quite entertaining. I'm only up to level 9 and I had no idea until just a bit ago that there was in game mail, or an auction house, as 7 day trial accounts have no access to them. So I'm going to order the game, as Turbine doesn't simply let you upgrade your account in their system without a retail key, and it's not so simple for me to get out to a retail store and pick it up. So yay for Amazon I suppose.
It doesn't hurt my opinion of the game that I recently upgraded to an 8800GT and can run the thing in 1680 x 1050 with everything all the way up and their DX10 options on. Looks amazing.
I don't know about lack of classes, you have to remember it's Middle Earth, in that sense, everyone would be a burglar, hunter or guardian (aka generic warrior). It's actually pleasant. And the detailed quest text is refreshing, it feels like an actual fleshed-out world and it does feel like Middle Earth.
I'm actually quite impressed. Plus, the population is as a whole eons ahead of the Warcraft crowd in general sense of intelligence and manners. Consider me a subscriber when the game comes then.
