Rofl and who says mature people dont "Trash talk" Looks like its not only the 15 year olds playing WoW PvP whom are l33t might I add (Hint: theres sarcasm somewhere in here!). No its not only a game that would allow you to show whose really better than each other by being able to fight in competitions, tournaments, or over something fullfiling such as land. Oh and that whole thing where owning a dungeon, area or even a town would actually mean something. "WOOT WE OWN THIS AREA CAUSE WE DID A 3 HOUR QUEST! OH N0EZ THERES SOMEONE ELSE DOING THE QUEST WE BETTER GET READY TO DO IT AGAIN!!"
Please man if you want to talk smack might as well do it for something alittle more than over a video game preferance.
It is impossible to have good crafting, and full, unrestricted PvP. No thanks.
ROFL, okay Dr. MMORPG. Know what? It's like, impossible to land a human on Mars too. I base that off the fact that no one has done it yet. Sweet logic, yeah?
EVE has both and they're done very well so you fail.
Originally posted by Burntvet It is impossible to have good crafting, and full, unrestricted PvP. No thanks.
Haha, epic FAIL
You couldn't be more wrong, since it's the opposite. Crafting is meaningless in games where: - some looted items are better than crafted items - items cannot be lost.
It's only meaningful if you can lose your items, because players will need crafters to make items for them regularly.
Yep and I remember all the people whining on the general AC forum board at the vault because they thoght it was to harsh. Darktide was the best server to play AC on. It was totally awesome. General Chang, the Silver Serpents, Xanthro, House of Sag, Schattenkind, Og, Dark Kimone...the lot of them...we players made Darktide what it was and it was a blast before the cheats, hacks, exploits and UCM's ruined it.
OMG I remember the politics and the backstabbing and the drama of that server. LOL! Good times.
Speaking of AC DT, who remembers Matty Robes and Gertahs dagger. Turbine put them in the game not realizing how imbalancing they were. The eary days of DT were harsh to say the least. Go dagger/mage wearing matty and carrying gertahs. Aim low and set for fast strikes and let the fun begin.
Full PVP looting?! Well that's one way to ensure that this game won't make any amount of worthwhile money. For all the retro sadomastic fetishists that like being put in their place by their entertainment...have fun I'm sure you'll enjoy getting ganked and taken back to square one over and over and over again. Oh and quit cutting.
Ok! Question hotshot? If your inventory is full and you have killed of some other chracters (you PKer) how do you loot the other ones??
Exactly! You cant. Problem solved. And "Not full loot" was fun maybe five years ago, today everyone want it. The last ten year of carebearism are slowly fading away. And we will get back those oldschool MMOs. Remember it all begun hardcore, then bumped down to WoW level.....and now we will get ack up again.
We will see WoW as the low water level mark of MMO history considring gameplay and features.
It is impossible to have good crafting, and full, unrestricted PvP. No thanks.

EVE has both and they're done very well so you fail.
Perhaps, you don't read so well... note I said UNRESTRICTED.
If someone can walk into your workshop or warehouse, and smoke you, when you have a crafting build, how will anyone craft? In eve, you have high sec, and other mechanics to help with a lot of that.
Besides, the more I read about this game, the less and less it seems it will be the full, light anyone up and loot their corpse game some people here seem to think it will be. Game designers are smart enough to know that total, full on, non consent, lootable, PvP is going to turn off a LOT of people. So, they'll be limits.
I'm sure they'll be plenty for the gankmeisters to do, to jerk their collective epeen, but there is no way, considering the time and money involved with making an MMO these days, that they would solely target and cater to the hardcore PvP types as their core audience.

Yeah I have to agree with that. A full out pvp without safe zones is impossible. I think this could be something like Eve.
Will you be able to attack people in your own faction? (i.e. become a criminal)
Earthrise PvP is all about freedom of choice, personal interest and of course - responsibility. We did not want to limit our players by setting artificial boundaries on what they can do and what they cannot, breaking the immersion that they are part of a dynamic world and forcing them to play by our rules, not theirs. Earthrise setting is edgy and competitive place and if we did have highly regulated PvP it would take away from that spirit, leaving nothing but a shell that's just like every other game on the market. So we are taking risks with making some difficult decisions that we hope will go well in their proper realization. So, to cut the introduction, the answer is YES! Players will be able to attack players affiliated with their own faction. What is very important to understand is that what you can do is not always something you can get away with without consequences. Killing people of the same faction is one of the worst crime, prosecuted by members of both Noir and Continoma. It will be very difficult for someone to clear the damning effects of such a crime, though not impossible, and his space of operation would be greatly limited in the wild, less secure areas - where he himself would taste his own medicine by being open target for other criminals. As we have already revealed, security will be provided by Guard NPCs that will act immediately on signs of violence in range. But that is not the only form of security and monitoring that will be present in the game. Often, even if there is no sudden intervention of the law, the crime will be monitored and reported and players will face repercussions later on.
Will there be PvP in Earthrise?
Yes. PvP will be an important part of the game. Players will have the opportunity to kill other players – but not without consequences.
Another PvP aspect in Earthrise will be guild rivalries. Guilds will be able to declare war on each other and fight for power and resources. Such wars will be prohibited in the security zones, but will not be punished in the other territories.
There must be a good reason for PvP players to risk everything to make a kill. What will making a PvP kill grant you?
Brannoc - *[DSotM]Malicious-Wraith* Can you explain the item loss from PvP insurance system?
[MS]Ostiak - Item loss will happen if the killed player has not insured his items or if he doesn’t want to pay a very high fee to get them back. If this happens, his items will stay on the ground and everyone can loot them
I got these off the forums and also out of the interviews. you can also find them in the news section of mmorpg. Thought it would help people understand a lil better. since i know most people are too lazy to actually go and read all that stuff.
How can everyone forget that the first MMO had full loot ? Ultima Online had full loot since 1997 and it worked perfectly.. Its irritating to browse forums and watch people believe that the only model for success is in a carebear WOWlike enviroment or setting.
You DONT have to play or like any game out there as any game out there is not created to appeal to everyone. Companies (not just gaming companies) have certain target groups and usually it is when they try to broaden them that their marketing strategy fails (Ultima Online with Trammel and insured items, SWG with its new system etc)
You dont like the game DONT buy it just stop whining and flaming it and go back to Hello Kitty Online Community or whatever ur playing at the moment
Always sounds good, but then the hardcore guilds come along and dominate you. Then it all comes full circle as to why games don't incorporate it into MMOs where gear is your strength.
Ok, did you read this off of a fortune cookie?
Your "gear" will not be the key factor in the victory of battle. Your skill template, accuracy, and overall general knowledge of your surroundings and opponent will decide the victor.
I do hope they have seperated Servers for the full PVP looting...otherwise the hopes of me playing this game are low. If i work hard only to have someone come along and take everything ive worked so hard for i would quit in a heartbeat. Even worse if i start playing and keep getting killed in the noob area!!
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR. Playing EVE Online and AOC. Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD

Your profile says you're currently playing Eve Online, which has full loot PLUS item destruction on death... and you say you wouldn't play Earthrise if it had full loot?? How logical...
You seem to forget that in full-loot games, most items are not "worked so hard for".

No that not correct they already stated that your gear would limit what skills you can use
So even if your character was maxed in one area your gear could be such that you cant use though skills
They can spend money to protect gear, so i think you will just be looting not gear stuff like reasources, unless they are broke.
There is be plenty of PvP, I am thinking you will have players with multi sets of gear even so they can switch out to use different skills, that could be handy in territory control or PvE

Exactly. Ultima Online was good... still today i would rather play full pvp free servers of that game than 90%+ of all mmo's out at the moment. We don't want a game built on complete popularity because it would make sacrifices to make sure it wouldn't lose people who have no skill whatsoever. Honestly , i never really dominated in UO but even surviving and starting to build yourself up felt like an accomplishment. The best skill games tend to have a terrible learning curve. A game i play currently(more an fps than an mmo) Gunz: The Duel... really has the top tier people being almost completely one who have played 2 years or more. These games are like this because you need to LEARN to survive. It draws competition like a magnet and i'll admit a large potion of the highly competitive community are assholes. I can only say that this reflects the real world though and hell i enjoy it. In carebare games i'm not even sure WHAT you play for. To be the richest?- there is always a richer person. To max your character?-these games always want to to keep paying beyond that. To finish EVERY single quest and similar thing?-THEY ARE ALL REPETITIVE AND NEW ONES JUST KEEP COMING OUT. I'd rather play a game for the thrill of survival. I mean when anyone can die it actually means something to be alive. Even once you have finished maxing a character its not like the game is over.. you constantly need to keep stockpiles of items that you always lose. What happened on real classic UO is that people HAD the good items. They could be a god until they died if they had them . But no one had enough of them so the system wasn't item based. Instead of having to go through elaborate sequences to get an item to put you on par... almost everyone was stuck at the highest level of mass craftable items. Everyone had the same stuff to use and skill really had a chance to shine.[/quote]I can't even claim to support insurance. It ruined UO to a minor extent because everyone COULD use good items and the mass used resources of fighting was all that had to be bought. The harder it is to keep an item the less item based gameplay becomes.
Always sounds good, but then the hardcore guilds come along and dominate you. Then it all comes full circle as to why games don't incorporate it into MMOs where gear is your strength.
Thats pretty much what killed Shadowbane if I remember correctly (well that and the fact that it sucked graphics wise)...

Oh. Damn. I really had hopes for this one since they advertised the best crafting since pre-CU SWG. How you gonna do that kind of crafting with no-safe-zone, full-loot PvP?
