Yeah- you wish there was vindication for this stuff.  The competitive gaming world gives these types of games no respect for a reason though- they're for low-speed noobies.

Can't wait for the next "big deal" FPS that is grounded by traditional principles and mechanics so I can make all these new-schoolers who think they know something eat it.

Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

Old school isn't necessarily the best. I suppose you want us to return the RTS genre to Dune 2? Fact is CoD4 incorperates element of the traditional shooter with some of the more realistic shooters. I'm doubting you've even tried CoD4. It's nothing like the Tom Clancy games. It's fast paced, and provided you can handle something called recoil, you can run and gun(I'm being bashed all the time for jumping a lot)

I don't know why you hate newer fps so much? I mean, I can love games like Armed Assault, Swat 4, Americas Army, Raven Shield and CoD4 along with other games such as the UT and Quake Series. If you don't like them, fine, but that doesn't mean they are skill less. Just because they aren't grounded the traditional principles(I suppose you mean Quake... otherwise there should only be 2 axis of movement, 1 ammo type and 4 weapons, and no jumping), doesn't mean it bad.

Btw, you're wrong. CoD4 is getting a lot of attention from the E-Sports Scene.

Bleh..It  nothing but a bunnyhopping fest, with "tacticool" equipment. To me Its like a UT with a facelift. Then again I am a realism buff, anything where I can go from prone while jumping without any  restrictions just  about kills it for me.

Would I buy it? hell nah but for somone with a birthday, or just  looking for anything to give or get as a gift then its prolly better than nothing I say.

    Short answer: Yes.

    Long answer: Definitely

The game has sucked out my soul.

The singleplayer game was fun, but way too short IMHO.

Multiplayer is okay. Just the usual generic FPS faire, doesn't bring anything original to the genre.

I'd say buy it if you want the multiplayer, but if you are only intersted in the singleplayer campaign, rent it or borrow it. Don't buy it for singleplayer unless it's in the bargain bin.

Judge the game on it's own merits. You don't bash Armed Assault for not being able to jump in it and you don't bash Swat 4 because you can't take half a mag in it. I think everybody realized that CoD4 wasn't going to a realistic tactical infantry game like GRAW2(on PC) or something.

Get the terms straight too. There is no bunnyhopping in CoD4. It's normal jumping. Bunnyhopping implies repeated jumping in order to gain speed. Only jumping you do in CoD4 is to evade fire.

Um, I'm fairly sure I've never seen people bunny hopping around in CoD4.  And the game is going to be (next to battlefield) one of the more realistic shooters that actually has large amounts of people playing it that you'll find for a while.  I don't know what happens in the PC version, but the 360 is extremely fun, nobody bunny hops, and it is nothing like UT.  The physics and weapons are very realistic.

Thats how you judge things..by the quailties they have and have not. I say the game is a bunny-hopping Fest. Im not being mean it just an observation. Its like saying Crysis is one of the most graphicaly impressive FPS out there, but your defense of  "they are only bunny-hopping to avoid fire" is like saying  people only wall clip to see whats on the other side..

People its fine you like the game and  yada-yada-whoop.but please avoid the nearly religious fanboy virus thats hits when somone claims some game is godlike. Its happened with WoW, It happened with Halo. Its a game and I can almost set my watch to the time the next "ground breaking-godlike" game will be relased and cause another thread like this one.

Quality in regarding to what it tries to accomplish. And yes, jumping(not bunnyhopping) is to avoid fire and it's obviously meant to be in the game, so it's not a glitch or cheat like wall clipping, which even further proves my point, that you should judge a game for what it tries to accomplish.  You don't like the type of shooter, fine, but you gotta admit what it does, it does good.

I know it has it flaws, and I'm not saying it's "teh omfg best pwn sh00tterz evah", but I think you need to judge games on what they are, and not what you would like them to be.

Just think about it, I don't know which realistic you're playing, but say if it's America Army, you'd think I'm an idiot if I said it's a bad game because you can't double jump and keep a perfect aim. I should instead say it's probably a good game for people who like the specific genre, but I don't like it myself.

I never took a whole lot of interest in the previous CoD titles; would this one still interest me?

go for it , buddy, you will never regret

Actually deciding to take back my endorsement of this game.  Got to play for a good long time yesterday after not getting to for a while.  And wow, the patch they put in ruined the game as it was.  EVERYONE snipes now, because it is too easy and nearly always a one shot kill.  I can't tell you how many times I died from running across a gap only to get sniped instantly.  No headshot.. just a body shot.  Bam, dead.  Watched the kill cam, and there is no longer any having to lead your target.  Nothing.  Just aim and shoot wherever the crosshairs are, that's where it's going to hit nearly instantly.

It wouldn't be bad if this wasn't all anyone did anymore.  There used to be some degree of skill to the game, where if you saw a sniper who was killing a lot of people you knew he was actually good and knew how to lead a target properly, etc.. In the same respect, you knew when people with normal guns were good.  It was great going 35 and 3 regularly using nothing but a G3.  Now though, you're lucky if you can pop around a corner without getting sniped.

And I am not exaggerating it one bit.  Start playing, and over the course of several hours you will see likely 5 times more people sniping than you would have before.  Not only that, but you'll be furious about how many times you get sniped.  I will also add that regardless of the sniping, I did well.  Nothing like my old scores, but I rarely went in the negatives.  And on smaller or maps with less long areas in which to snipe, I dominated non-stop.  But getting sniped repeatedly by people who obviously have no real talent at playing the game with real weapons... well that gets under your skin and it has made me despise this game.  They went for mass appeal.. trying to get all those people who cried because they couldn't snipe all the time.  Now, it's done nothing but ruin it for those who were perfectly happy with the way it was.

I'd like to know one thing about this game to all those who know.

Is this a free to play?  or Pay to Play?

    Thanks.

    G.

Is it that great? I'm sure someone before me has said about the same thing but I'll add my 2 cents anyway. It's good for a couple hours then it goes down hill - fast; mostly because its over, done, credits rolling, fin.
