So after reading the thread around here that asked if the game was ever star warsy enough, i decided to go and check the offical swg forums to see what was currently going on with the game, as i usually do.
What I found (and i find it ironic) was a particular thread, in it was someone stating that the current restus pvp was meaningless and really not "starwarsy" followed by well thought out solutions from many people that agreed and that had added links to other threads where they have suggested similar material. (how many times has this happened again? hmm )

Here is a dev response on page 2:
"I saw the thread and had a feeling as to who the author would be.
The GCW is a pretty important issue to all of us but please keep in mind that we do our publish planning several months in advance and our publish development cycle is also very rapid. Most of my down time I have is spent on the forums, fixing bugs and preparation for the next chapter. With that said, I will continue to try to stick GCW changes and additions in where I can."
Now if you have read most of the thread before the dev response... people were not asking for little additions here or there... they were asking for the GCW to have meaning again and be revamped... no wonder the dev above got responses like:
"You're not getting it. We are not talking about changes that you can "stick in where you can". The GCW system needs massive changes and serious developer attention for it to become the imersive and huge part of the game that it should be."
Now i truly wonder whats going on in the current devs heads... are they "still" trying to make the game like wow? Do they even care about the game being star warsy any more? Do they even see the players that are leaving? They should do something to fix this game. (which has been said many times) ... or are they more concerned about adding pve content like "the meatlump king?" lol...
anywho... forget what "I" think, i would like to see what others think...

You are right, the game is not Star Warsy enough. GCW needs MASSIVE improvment. to be fair to that Dev, however, his next post was:
My main objective in posting here is to support your attempt to raise the importance level. I haven't been included in any future publish planning meetings but when I am I will be pushing for 2 or more GCW publishes back to back.
That being said, I will believe in real GCW improvement when I see it... Sure I hope it will get better, but hope in one hand and shit in the other and see which gets full first.
Just saw that, but i still wont hold my breath.... this is a promise from a dev that states: "I haven't been included in any future publish planning meetings"
And the amount of time it has been since the NGE came, it may be too little too late... they must realize this...
Then again they have promised things before... but I wont get into that... I want to hear what others think.

I don't really understand why you didn't just reply to that thread but anyway if anyone thinks the current dev pool can change anything in the game they have another thing coming. You see they didn't doc anything down and they can't even piece the old code they just keep adding crap to a crap pile that is already full of too much crap.
My proof of this is that they continue to ignore the requests to fix the heroic instances and at one point even replied they knew the control was bugged but if they went to fix it then they couldn't put in new content, what kind of companies says that to a fan base. "Ya we can fix what we broke, but it'll cost you" I'll tell ya who SOE and no one else. Arrogance will kill this game faster then it could have lived on life support.
They are just doing small bug fixing and milking the rest of the players they have.
From day 1 of the NGE I always felt like that "Star Warsy" term was an after thought to justify the changes they made. I believe it was a term they coined simply to give the NGE meaning and purpose afterdeciding to go ahead with the NGE.
Essentially their motivation when developing the NGE was not to make the game more Star Warsy, but to sell it as more Star Warsy.
*My appologies as this was a little off topic. In my defense I must blame it on a lack of coffee this morning. I'm currently working on correcting that issue ; )
Certainly sounds good, I like how the devs have been working closely with the players these past few months.
Account has been stolen, why would someone want to steal my account?
They won't make any big updates to the GCW or anything else because this Dev team is incapable of it. They have neither the ability or the manpower to do that.
I personally think the dev is blowing smoke up their bums, the recent updates have hardly fixed what is needed to be fixed in my opinion. but whatever...

They are playing out the string.
Question, i did return last year for about 8 months but had not touched anything in pvp, so kinda wonder if the option /pvp is still there, if so why is it mostly centered in restrus? I'm not looking for a anwers that say's "because pvp suck" for that i do not need a reply on this as then i just have to read what already has been posted many MANY MANY times....anyway thanks in advance......
because PvP sucks since the NGE ,i know you don't want to hear that, but can't help you cause its true.

To answer the question about pvp:
I stopped playing SWG for the first time since launch about a month ago. Basically what pvp has turned into is who has the most credits to buy the best attachments. I have been playing on and off since NGE constantly getting more and more frustrated. One day about a month ago, i went and logged in to my BH and got some bounties. After about 5 failed bounty attempts ( i got waxed to the point i knew it was an unfair fight and something had changed ig) i started to look into things like my skills and etc. I had server capped RIS, and GLC and was buffed mind you. Then i reached out for help and asked other BH what the deal was. Well apparently the DEVs brought back attachments in the form of pups and you now need an attahcment for every piece of armor in your inventory if you plan on pvping and not getting your grass handed to you.
So what pvp in SWG has tunred into is a bunch of fanboi's sitting in Restuss with there 100 million credits suites that they were able to get thanks to good old credit farmers. If you don't have one game over!
Normally i would not mind grinding and getting the best equipment but after all the times ive grinded and gotten screwed by SOE i decided not to do it anymore.
Anyways i was pretty upset with the state of the game when i left. I hung on aslong as i could but with me leaving i can now say in my heart that SWG is offically dead.
Since then i have resided on Champion server my first attempt at COH. My charecters name is Mandolorian
(have to make the best of things)
I think that statement alone sums up how SOE manages ALL of its games.
I have yet to decide if they do this because of some deep sadistic need to alienate its customer base by using some eastern warlord method of thinking, or if they are unable to even assume any consequences from implementing changes that are designed to enhance game play by not fully testing to understand how those changes effect the game across the board.
For me SWG's huge downfall was consistancy.
It's now turned away 4 generations of players. If they had stuck with anyone of the four designs for the game some of us would not be here upset and the rest would be playing the only SWG they had ever known.
The four generations
1.pre cu
2.cu
3.Nge
4. (current era) PRECUNGE
Either way along with all my other fellow vet's, i put a ton of hard work into making my toons. I have a ton of great memories of things like going rancor hunting for the first time with a 20 person group, and even camping out infront of the temple for 3 days with 50 others trying to get jedi. LOL Of course my most memorable was unlocking JEDI. It was a month after pre cu though (. I still consider it pre cu though.
You know, regarding the GCW, I was excited about that aspect of the game when I read about the battlefields in a game magazine. I couldn't wait to try them out. When I got the game, they were broken. I waited a long time for them to be fixed, and they never were.
Well that was o.k., I still enjoyed the TEF system, where I'd open up on a bunch of storm troopers and then end up in a fire fight with any imp players nearby that took exception. Then one day, all of a sudden, TEF's were gone.
I decided I could live with those things when I got into base busting pvp all over the place. Man that was really rockin in its hey day. There were some lag issues when people built too many bases on one planet, but I figured the devs would just cap the number of bases that could be built. Instead, they deleted base busting pvp from the game entirely...
So, busted battlefields never fixed, TEF system deleted, base busting pvp deleted. Well that was that for the GCW for me. SOE broke it and deleted it.
Oh well, I thought, I was also excited about the ad. in another magazine that encouraged me to unravel the mystery of the jedi...

Okay, there are a few reasons why Restuss is where the bored and unimaginative PVP.
Reason 1. Within the ruins of Restuss, either faction can take mission to earn commendations. With these commendations, players can purchase armor and weapons that cannot be picked up anywhere else. Honestly, I think the rebel and imperial armor skins "look" pretty cool, but are sub-par when compared to good old fashioned composite. The weapons are some of the best for their level (certification 75).
Reason 2. Jedi like the "jinzu hilt" it can be looted off a Spawn in Restuss.
Reason 3. Restuss is pvp zone so you get flagged when you enter and are automatically overt. Also you get GCW "ticks" if you kill people in Restuss, these points are what determine your GCW faction Rank. Rank can get you clothes weapons armor etc. as well as some buffs. To keep the good ones however, you must acquire points each week after you reach officer rank or you will suffer decay...
Those are the reasons, now let me tell you why I think those reasons SUCK!
Reasons 1 and 2 force people who want to PVE to PVP to get armor or items that will for many will just be furniture decor.
Reason 3 is just a way to make players invest in a timesink. I remember when bases were a source of pride for your city. You designed your city with an area to defend the bases, complete with a cloner beside to zerg if desperate. We did not need special buffs or armor as candy to make us PVP. Now people are so freaking lazy I doubt they ever even check for base time Vulnerabilties at player cities. Instead they go to "base busts" where they stand around till a player dropped base is pooped for the GCW tick. Or the really lazy go and stand ina big circle jerk at RESTUSS and wait for players to cross the PVP line...
SWG has never really gotten GCW PVP right in my opinion. It is a shame really.
I thought the static bases with limited stims and buffs (that way they were not overpowering) were pretty neat ideas. Also I thought that those base would be placed in remote areas, less prone to lag. While I will admit I have had some good fights at these statics, trying to hold these bases (you get better limited use stims that way) in no way compared to the glory days of seeing groups of 20-40 people charge a player base with 4 heavy turrets, as my friends would send waves of AT-ST's that would shatter against the defenses...
