Is there any particular server that isn't overpopulated with bots/farmers?

I think there was one of those mass bannings done recently, usually the dark elf area is infested but for the past 2 weeks or so ,I've only seen just a few. Won't be long till they up and running again I guess.Bartz the server I'm on is usually filled with them but rather quiet for sometime.

    Waiting on Guild Wars 2

Lineage 2 adena selling is what supports Korea's Economy.  Out of all the MMO's I have played Lineage 2 was the only one that I felt I had to buy online currency in order to enjoy the game. When you see level 20 armor set selling for 10-11 million adena and you only have maybe 3-4 thousand after leaving the newbie zone..you just might to.

BUT lineage 2 is a fantastic game. if you can handle grinding sessions.

I will try the game but I probably won't last. I don't think you should have to pay to play a game, and then just to be able to afford anything due to botters, and a crappy drop system/economy, that I should have to fork out additional money for good gear.  Nor should you pay to play a game and then have to work at enjoying it.

level 20 armor costs 40k or so iirc, level 40 armor costs 2.5M ^^

And no, you don't have to RMT in order to enjoy, you have to, in order to be competitive without spending time playing with the market/grinding for stuff.

Never RMT'd and I got top A grade at level 67, and that sure allowed me into high level parties.

you don't have to RMT even if you don't work the market but it depends on the class how disadvantged you are in pve or pvp

Well so far I've grinded out 10 levels as a light elf. I haven't spent any money on items thus far, just have the starting chest piece and leggings and have found jewelry drops. i've managed 10k in Adena thus far....

I'm a little confused on the recipes though, are the only crafter dwarves? Because everything I have found in the way of recipes says Dwarves only.

Only dwarves can craft with the exceptio of "common craft" recipes which will yield you things like potions, dyes, and vanity items.

    Whoa, wait a minute, STOP!

Before you go on perhaps you should tell us why you want to craft. I know that sounds really arrogant but I ask because if you are crafting for better pvp equipment it's going to take you a HUGE amount of time. If you are crafting to make money it's going to take you a HUGE amount of time to start crafting things that people want and it might be better to role a scavenger instead.

Having said that, it takes a HUGE amount of time to level a dwarf (they just level slowly), especially if you are new and don't have the best equipment, don't know the best areas, etc). Because of this, it is better to just roll a class you want to play. Also know that no one is really going to be interested in most things you craft (except some of the lower lvl stuff like varnish of purity or frames, etc.. not a lot of money there though) until you can craft C grade. Sure you can craft D grade shots but you will have to be very dilligent to make money. Also know that a good amount of C grade will be available in the npc stores as of the next update. So we are looking at a lot of effort for you to craft B grade.

Also, dwarves aren't a premiere pvp class. If you really want to make a character for pvp then another might be better. Added to that, if you are one of those people who like to do quests, craft, and are not really interested in the primary gameplay that is pvp then you also might want to reconsider L2.

It's not like other mmo's where there are all sorts of "fun" quests and crafting is nifty and every one is just doing there thing.

At higher lvls, crafting has a percent chance to fail. That's right. Fail. 60% success. And this is the higher lvl expensive stuff. And do you know what you get  when your craft fails.

    nothing.

There is a little more to this than what you think.

L2 is not a pay to play game. Neither is is written anywhere that you are entitled to anything just for spending some time online. L2's risk vs reward system is well documented. You will need to do some more perception shaping because I am not confident that you understand the nature of the MMO you are playing.

WRT paying for items in game, ppl may do so because over the years they have conditioned themselves to having instant gratification for things. As with any other product out there you can take several paths to enjoying its content depending on what your approach is to MMO's.

If you view it as a challenge and enjoy socialisation then you may quickly realise that many hands make light work, join a clan and discover an approach which generally frees you of the RMT burden and will keep you involved in the game for a long time. This comes at a price though, as with all social communities there will be an expectation of you to not only commit to certain playing hours but also to various player devised schemes and initiatives withing both the PvP and PvE millieu.

If you view L2 as just another get in and kill a few hours casual type of entertainment, then you need to foster your expectations accordingly. Don't expect to get equipped in the best gear for your level for a few hrs of playing. This is not WoW and even WoW slows things down at higher levels. Buying or selling L2 goods for real $ is against the EULA,  but it is generally the unattended levelling of your character through 3rd party programs that will get you banned.

Progress in L2 is well and truly earnt, and there are generally no shortcuts to anything. You can try and cheat , and many before you have and continue to do so.  Once caught though, your efforts are truly wasted  and you can ffectively start from scratch or vent your frustrations about being banned from L2 on the boards.

Either way all the choices are yours.

As a parting comment, MMOs are by their very design games where you "work at enjoying them". The question is how much effort are you prepared to put in, because L2 is very very demanding as MMOs go.

Best of luck with your choices

First L2 is pay to play,it is a subscription based game, and therefore is not free 2 play. I am familiar with Asian grinders, I've played numerous Shaiya, Rappelz, Perfect World, Silk Road, Gates to Heavens, etc. So, I do know a little about the genre. I was, however, not familiar with the fact that L2 would be one of those types of games, with little quests, and majority grind/pvp.

With that said, I'm still finding enough quests to do to keep me busy thus far. I'm only level 14 Light Elf fighter, perhaps the quests drop off drastically soon, but I'm still having a little bit of fun. That point aside, I still have a lifetime sub to LOTRO, which will keep me more than rolling in the quests.

And in regards to the previous posters comments about crafting, I have always enjoyed crafting dating back to UO, which in my opinion had one of the best crafting systems out there, too bad they don't move that game into the here and now and give it a complete face lift with true 3d graphics. But if crafting in L2 isn't 'enjoyable' then I may not worry about it at all, and get my fix for that in LOTRO as well.

Well, I'm glad you are enjoying yourself. However, I really don't think the scope of the game is going to hit you until you get a bit higher.

I don't want to dissuade you from playing. Not at all. Heck ,we "want' players who are interested in the game.

But being here for 4 years I've seen quite a few types of players who have passed through. A good amount of them get to a certain lvl and wonder about the tough grind as it takes them longer and longer to get higher and they are only lvl 28. they then start complaining about the economy, that there is no money and that (as I pointed out) when they craft at hgher lvls they lose millions uponi million in mats because they failed crafts.

They then come and complain and rail against the game when the truth of the fact is the game has always been what it is. It is a pvp game.

And yes, you will find the quests trail off and the rewards just become less yet more bizarre.

But yes, this is a grind pvp game that is pay to play. I feel that it is heads and shoulders above all the free or cash shop games I've played.

So great, glad you are enjoying it. Please just keep in mind what we said and welcome to the game.

edit: oh, I strongly suspect that Ellyrion was supposed to say that L2 was not a cash shop game... pay to play in his mind is probably cash shop. He knows too well that it is monthly subscription. That was most likely a typo.

I leveld a Swordsinger to 60. All you do to level up is find the catacomb for your level range and grind, come back to town, sell/restock soulshots/go back to catacombs, grind,rinse/repeat.

The chaotic guild based open world PvP is really what sets it apart from the mindless grinding.
