I'm as old school as they get, we used to play games on wooden computers back in the day (before fire).

While I've been playing single player based RPG's since the early 80s, I'm a relative newcomer to MMO's, with Lineage 1/DAOC being my first games (but I caught up quick with like 10 more since).

Yet, I can't claim to be elite, I'm the eternal noob, usually only understanding about 3/4 of what a game involves.  I never learn it all, just don't have the time or desire to study them that hard.

Arrogance really suits no one in the gaming world, but its far to easy to get away with it unfortunately.

Yea thats some of them , and some of them played in the Nihilum EU wow guild , i know a couple of them were "pro" cs gamers before this and all they had in mind 24/7 was CS practice and now they think their the master of all trades in MMO's , right okay.
That kinda arrogance i despise, but again thats what you can expect from such people.

I think I'd rather deal with the idiots that think they know everything, then the moron that screams "I need gold, give me gold, gold! gold!" At least the ignorant jackoff you can tell to shut up and they at some point will do it. But the moron screaming gold seems to have no effect to insults or shutting the hell up.

Let's put it this way: no FPS gamer worth his/her salt would play with cute graphics that is WoW. They're off on BF2/BF2142; COD4; HL2; CS:S; Quake Wars; UT and a host of other shooters.

I could never play a game that was Emo inspired anime look (why I r-e-a-l-l-y despised DX2. The protagonist that couldn't even hold a pistol correctly!), with kids with good gear because gaming the system is all they're good at -- not taking the lumps and dying 10000001 to learn from the ground up how to shoot; how to out gun an opponent; all with but 3 weapons and 20 minutes on the clock, not 3 years to "develope" a character that was nothing until it got some epic suit to brag about.

MMOs would get more respect if it's players wouldn't be such utter snobs. I'm a FPS fan, who takes a break to bake cookies in MMOs (and not ashamed to say that I do, because this is the only genre that has MORE than JUST shooting).

One hand you have wimpy PvP players who's more cerebral than can fight without their tanked selves (it's always about tanking, you're nothing in MMOs if you aren't decked out with a mile long purple and green ePeen, straight out of the latest Japanese anime flick); the other you have the dainty alchemist women who make going to church seem like a vacation, with their high dramas and gossip, inbetween living up to all the stereotypes in FPS gaming.

MMOs aren't the best thing in gaming, it's a new way to game, but with baggage any genre has because how it's exploited. FPS games have their toilet tots; MMOs have their toilet PvPers. All anyone can do is hope to enjoy it, before one of either tots spoils it for you.

It's far far far from anime man, I'm a lover of all things anime and WoW has no resemblance to it. Anime is a different shade/look altogether.

That being said I play FPS's as well I've been playing cs since the original release off and on in between MMOs and console gaming, may be one of the only or select few that digs source better than 1.6 but to each his own.

The point is you can't categorize people, FPSers are not all hardcore, they don't all just like that genre or won't play cutesy games. Same goes for anime people, they play FPSs too, not just cutesy games. It's a matter of taste.

Read my profile. See "man" there? Yeah, I like FPS games, maybe because I was a Woman Marine.

Some games are just starting to recognize women play more than alchemists and Laura Croft sex kittens going to war in high heels.

The issue here is plain old stereotypical RPG player snobbery (I admit FPS players can be Neandertals [and for the grammar queens: it's now spelled without the h], too, especially how they like to rip any RPG offshoot). But please, if you're going to tell another to not categorize another whole group, learn who you're addressing and not do the same -- or labeling women fighters lesbians if they take the toys away.

    Lmao anyhow.

I play FPS games my self but a very few of them online, i own BF2 and CoD4 as original copies.

Rest of the games is more made for singleplayer with a storyline you can sit down and play when you dont feel like playing anything else and you have the time to do it, f.x Assassins Creed is comming out for PC here in april , so its GTA 4,  both singleplayer games with a good storyline.

Havent touched CS my self since 2002 since there went to much emo in the game

I think for me atleast and I started on mmogs with Eq1 and Ac1 beta is I am in WoW alot of times and think man these ppl are lazy they don't wanna explore, they don't wanna look for a quest npc nothing they just want to be done with it and move on to the next task thats what sucks about WoW and what its done to the genre.

I think back old Eq1,Ac1,Daoc,etc etc most of the WoW player base would not last 10 mins playing it.And FFS one thing I really miss is not having vent,ts all the voice chats if your too newb to raid and type at same time your def not old school.I remember raiding planes in old EQ1 and never ever ever needin or wanting voice chat I don't give a crap what anyone sounds like play your class play it right and you don't need voice chat thats what I miss.Old days where no one needed voice chat,no one needed to ask 500 questions or even type you knew your role in a raid and you did your job everyone else did theres and that was that.

So thats def one thing if you actually prefer to raid without listenin to 25 idiots on vent raiding then your old school least in my book.

    Well, your partly right...

You need to use vent in raids so you can talk to your friends on one server while making fun of the raid leader who thinks they are a god, not having to worry about that accidental mistell.

But yeah, you don't need voice chat in an MMO. I have my own vent server, but its used for friends and family, more like a partyline. We use it so we don't have to force someone to tab out of thier games, programs, etc just to reply to an IM. When I play an MMO I use the chat system. I don't feel like listening to some drunken/stoned stranger rambling on and on about crap in game, or having that person who loves to blast music in the background while using a voice activated mic.

The guild I was in when I played WoW made it mandatory for raiding. Even if you didnt have a mic you still had to be in the channel. I went along with the rule a couple of times, but got tired of hearing our raid leader throw a hissy fit because we didn't make our goal for the night (dude claimed he was in his late 30s, but he sounded like my 2 yearold when you tell her she can't have something). He also got into a screaming match with another warrior over a piece of T3 gear because it was the one piece he wanted and the other kid won. IIRC he even started sobbing.

Never had to deal with that crap in UO, EQ, AC, etc...

So now I just use vent for friends and family chat (seeing as everyone just had to move across the US)

As for newer MMOs and lazy people, we live in the on demand era. Everyone seems to want everything right away. In MMOs they want the fun with as little effort as possible. They don't want to explore because that takes time, time that could be spent having fun (even though for most of us, the fun is the journey, not the destination). They don't want complex character skill trees and stat customization, they would rather have a predefined template and class specific gear that will have only the stats that class needs. They don't care about game lore, history or even quest lore, because reading can eat up precious time that could be spent having fun. So we are left with thin stories, next to nothing for lore and quests that might as well just give you XP for finding the quest giver. Even PvP has been cornholed into a minigame.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

<--is completely old school...Played Atari 2600 Combat back in the day. Firsty video game I ever played.. But on a serious note. Its ok for the younger generation to feel they are in the £337ll355 category. Its a new generation. I think my gen of UO,Asherons Call and EQ are played out(Takes alot more to satisfy). Why many of us dominated in a mmo like WOW. Its like EQ on "easy" mode :-D and "Super Easy" mode for those Asheron Call players. The newer players made the game much more interesting. It is also nice once in a while to share a tidbit with these new £337 youngsters. So really I do not mind them.

I just let them be. They usually learn the difference in pvp.

i only consider myself oldschool if i played a game for 3+ years

so just oldschool in a game specific, if i was really "old" :P then i would consider myself oldschool in just about everything considering gaming (if i played games for a loooong time)

    MMOs currently playing: -
About to play: Lord of the Rings Online
Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)

Playing since WoW is considered old school?

I have been playing MMOGs since 1998 starting with Realm Online so I am old school and anyone who started playing after original EQ1 isn't old school.

maybe some new players consider themselves oldschool because they are used to that kind of MMORPG..

    that's my opinion

To be honest a lot of people will say a lot of different things on the net to impress people in a game atmosphere. I tend to take things with a grain of salt unless I really know the person. As for myself I'm in no way an old school gamer haha. I had stuff like the sega master system, atari, and nintentdo XD. As for mmorpgs I think muds like dragon realms and gemstone III were kinda a gateway into mmorpgs for me.(granted that the sub fees for DR has gone up since its days on the msn gaming zone) As for being hardcore I would have to consider that someone who can go into a f2p game not spend a dollar and compete with the people who do drop money. Or the guy who can level for nights on end and not end up like the little Korean boy who died leveling in EQ. Now I have no problem with people saying they are old school for the sake of it...But, when they want to throw their opinion in to something where an actual dev is going to take their information into account because of that claim....Then thats when I get annoyed. If you want to pretend thats fine. But, for the love of god avoid trying to give input on stuff you never did!

Dont think I ever really paid attention to the korean kid who died lvling in EQ.  I remember first hand the drama of the one who killed himself when he got his toon's gear ganked, and the child who died in the car when her parents were playing EQ and not watching her from heat stroke.  I remember the days when "i am not buying a 3D graphics card just to play everquest!" in UO.  I remember my first VooDoo and TnT 3D cards, and the freaken price, and thinking 16mb of ram was the shizzle on my gpu, and the pre 10usd days of EQ.

Meridian 59 are the old schoolers.  I played it before I tried UO, but I was in no way a avid MUD gamer.  However being old school isnt worth much, save for the stories.  It is those that have been playing the MUD/MMORPG for the last 10+ years and still gaming that have anything worthwhile to say about the back then and the here now.

I dont mind if WoW'ers think they are old school.  They have that freash taste in their mouths like I did with EQ for 4 years, when it was all that mattered.  Once they truely tire of wow and move on only to find nothing "feels" as good as it did all those years ago, and the same game dosent feel as good either, they will be on the same playing field.

Man doesn't have to be classified as a gender. Especially how I said it, call it the hippy term person whatever you want to call it, but it has no place in gender.

Secondly you started categorizing people again. Classifying women to certain aspects of gaming is not only politically incorrect it is ignorant. I know a ton of women who play any genre just like any other gamer. As I said it is a matter of TASTE. Anyone can like anything, it just depends who you are and what you like to do.

Who cares.../ignore liar and move on..For me, I been at the mmo since AO..And I personally couldnt care less about it if you wanna call me old school or newbie. In my mind, the people that got issues with this, need to get out more. Allthough to be fair, if you been with mmo's only since WoW you really dont know what you are talking about when it comes to mmo's.
