    Let's put it this way:
Let's say the Mexican Curreny was about 4 times higher than the American currency; if I was an asshole, I would jump the fence into mexico with my wife. Work my ass for for 800 Mexican currency a week, send that to my Uncle in the US making that 800 about 3200 and then have my wife pop  babies out and let the mexican citizens worry about paying medical bills.
Then I will further mooch from the Mexican government by taking money from the tax payers to get free food and then welfare and then invite about 6 of my brothers to live us with to make our rent cheaper.
After about 10 years of work, I have amassed about 500,000 dollars based on the American weaker currency, use that money to bring more over with the help of a smuggler and make more money, all the while making more money from the government.
    *************
That is what its like here. MadAce, you dont live in America. You have absolutely no idea what its like. How would you feel if thousands and thousands of illegal immigrants move into your country and stole your jobs and mooch from your taxes and they dont have to pay a damn red cent. Please. You would piss your pants.
And you think America is rough? Take a look at Japan.  Only one person from American became a Japanese citizen EVER three years ago because you CANT become a Japanese Citizen if you are from another country.
You have no idea whats its like here. You have to have a self identity and a sence of national pride and a sense of "self identity" to know what it feels like. Not like amass of people forming and kissing the asses of a European Union where the executive panel makes George Bush leadership seem like a miracle from the gods.

    Dude, you're one walking cliché.

You think you have immigrants? Think of it this way. How many people are living in North America. How many empoverished people are surrounding Europe? Exactly.

Then you go on an whine how I supposedly don't have a national identity.

I don't have to make a national identity up. I don't need a massive billion dollar movie industry to rewrite history. I have real history. A few blocks from where I live there's a 300 year old castle. My city has been a city for over 1200 years. That's a few times as long than the US has existed.

I'm the first to say the US has a culture and a unique identity. But don't go an confuse that one with... Maybe when your culture will get somewhat more mature that you'll realize that "national identity" is a funny thing when your nation is as young as yours. Sure,my country is younger than yours. But  before that it was something else. Before that it was something else. Before that and before that and before that and so on. That's how you forge national identity. Not with flags or lying to yourself.

So while your busy dumbing yourself down by caricaturizing people who aren't very different from you and while you are trying your very best not to broaden your horizons there are children being born all over the world who, even without knowing how to speak, have a richer heritage than you'll ever have.

Maybe your childrens children will stop deluding themselves. Maybe THEIR culture and THEIR self-image will be strong enough to stand proud, no matter what, to live trough occupation and still know a true identity. Maybe they will not have to look over their shoulder, fearing something undefinable that would take their precious, barely definable nation away and replace it with something that wouldn't have a lot of unfunded bravado. Maybe they will realize "no matter what, no matter how I cooperate, I am who I am. And I will evolve to protect who I am." Like many European countries do. They're so confident in their heritage, often thousands of years old, that they can grow, expand and prosper, fearlessly. Knowing, I can not lose. I can only gain. Change will not make me fear the light, brightly cast by the future.

    Unlike you...

That part in red makes no sense what so ever Madace.  America was something else too before it was America.  Actually our region has had people in it for around 14000 years so we can really claim to be as old as well.  So don't act all high and mighty like you have this huge cultural advantage over America.  National Pride comes from Pride in your Nation.  You can't possibly have National Pride in a Nation that didn't exist before.  That would be culture or Regional Identity but National Identity means that you must first be a nation.

You can't claim to be old. Your ancestors weren't on the American continent 14K years ago. Native Americans is something entirely different of course.

National pride doesn't come from pride in your nation. Since it's something subjective we choose to give i a subjective meaning. My Ancestors are my nation. My nation exists because my identity allows it to exist. What is a mere flag and a set of borders? But a tiny dune for the winds of time.

That happens when you live in a part of the world where neighborhoods have their own accents and proverbs (no kidding, tho even few people from here know this). I have pride in my culture and the accomplishments of my ancestor and my people. You'll learn, one day, that a nation is something that will fade away. A nation is politics. And the more a nation is being idolized, the less it will represent a culture.

I'm proud to be A true Antwerpian (not like those fakers from the suburbs, HA!) and I'm proud of it's proud history. From being the Venice of the North (one of them, but that's a detail) to kicking the Spanish around (without much success, tho an Antwerp tactic finished the Armada off). I'm proud of that castle, near the river, and its amazing history. I'm proud of that little ancient piece of wall. How it withstood time. How people rallied to it and its nearby fortress in defense of the city. I'm proud of our mighty cathedral. I'p proud of the amazing painting it houses. Those were accomplishments in their time. It says something about the people that lived their. I'm proud of the old fortresses surrounding the city. I'm proud of the fact that napoleon called Antwerp "the gun aimed at London". I'm proud of our resistance in World War 2 and how my grandfather was part of that. I'm proud that he saved people. I'm proud that others had the dourage to stand with him.

That's just my city. Then there's Flanders. Then there's Belgium, somehow managing to entangle the seemingly contradicting properties of the many peoples living within its borders. THen there's the Benelux. Then there's just Europe. Think about its size. Think about its history. Think about all the peoples there. Their struggles, their battles. How many times have brave men not raised a new flag over a city or a fortress? How many last stands have there been? How many loyal captains have instilled their men with suicidal courage, defending a city or a country? From the marching legions of Rome up to the rumbling Russian tanks, history, mixed with blood is still being sucked from European soil by every tree and every tiny flower. From the hills of Scotland up to the bridges over the Bosporus... Identity.

Some of my ancestors were here on this soil thousands of years ago.  As I do have Native American in my family tree.  As will pretty much any Americans who's family have lived here for years.  While I know that my nation hasn't been around for a long time it has been home to my family for a long time.  My family came to the American Colonies back in the 1600s.  We have been a part of American culture for a really long time.  Knowing hundreds of years of my family history (both good and bad, American Revolutionary War General as a great Uncle being good, Salem Witch Trials being bad ) give me a great deal of pride in my country.  My family fought to create this country.  So yes I have a lot of national pride.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Well deserved national pride if I might add. Tho I'd think some things wouldn't fully comply with the preferences of the your native American ancestors. But I take it you know that.

I only use Mexico as an example because over 90% of the Illegal aliens are latino.  They go to our hospitals for free, they get a free education, they get foodstamps, they get welfare (thank God, California changed that). I cant stand em.  Do it like every other red blooded immigrant did it. Take the DAMN citizinship route to be a citizen.
But they wont, they want the free cash.  My grandfather came from Italy. He did it the right way. He didn't hide in no damn ship crate and smuggled himself here and then mooch from the country.
Madace, your numbers are horribly wrong.
Theyre view of poverty is like making 1000 a year. Our view of pverty is making about 16,000 a year.  Plus, if they were only slightly higher than ours, why the hell are they risking their lives to hope a damn fence? For a better vehicle deal at Uncle Keeb's Auto Warehouse?
And don't get me started with illegals and damn car insurance.  90% of every person I call (im an adjuster for an insurance company) that is uninsured is a damn illegal alien. The person they hit with their car gets NOTHING! They can't get sued and it never goes to court so the people these illegal aliens hit with their car are screwed but they'll go out and get another car and pop out two more kids so they can get more welfare.
Damn crooks, every single illegal alien who comes here needs a kick in the pants and shipped back and then be made to do it the LEGAL way.
Damn libs just like hugging illegals and cry for them.  Michael Savage was SO right. Libralism is a mental disorder.

    Amen.

    Flag of Mexico Mexico

Flag of the United States United States

And even then... Why the smug attitude? The US is worse in some aspects than some countries, just like Mexico is.

And don't Americans dream of a different reality in which their country rules supreme? Of course they do. Hell, there's a whole economy dedicated to that, called Hollywood (fine example: The Patriot).
    Anything wrong with that? Nah.

Madace, if that were the case, then how come there are so many Mexican citizens literally dying to get over here?

Fact of it is, they need to be kept in their own country so that they are forced to deal with their own governments problems.  We have enough trouble keeping our government in line without letting a bunch more people in who don't care a damn bit about what this country stands for.

Why the US suffers so much immigration? For one, more money to be made in the US and a higher standard of living. In mexico it might be possible to live reasonably comfortably with half of the normal US wages (just a general example, not sure about the exact figures). So Mexicans would asume they're better off in the US.

Just look at what massive effect propaganda has on the average American. And they're supposedly more educated than the average Mexican.

That higher standard of living is there for a reason.  Because we f*cking work for it.  Not too many American's are swimming across the Red River into Mexico because we don't have to.

Your disdain for my countries position in this world is so obvious.  I feel sorry for people with such obsessive problems.

We are the world's largest super power.  That really pisses you off, doesn't it.

So you're saying you work harder than Mexicans? THat's BS and you know it. According to your logic the amount of hours you work, would determine the amount of money you get and the prosperity of the country.

Dude, there are people who work 16 hours a day and can barely afford to eat. Your reasoning doesn't make sense.

Get it trough your skul: THE WORLD IS NOT FAIR. THERE IS NO GALACTIC CERTAINTY FOR FAIRNESS, NO AMERICAN DREAM AND HONEST HARDWORKING PEOPLE GET FUCKED OVER EVERY SINGLE DAY.

You know what's even more sad? You're so in love with a your view of America that you're not able to see the true problems of America. One of thz major problems is the inability of many of its citizens to adopt an objective point of view towards themselves and the world and the inability of many American citizens to criticize the Unites States.

The United States hasn't been a Super Power since the cold war ended. And in what field is the US still a World Power? Militarily? It can't even effectively control a country like Iraq or Afghanistan. Economically? Nope. Not the biggest exporter. The largest deficit, sure. But that's about it. The strongest currency? Nope. The largest  single market? Nope. Does the US maybe produce the most movies? Nope. What then? Does having a massive percentage of prisoners constitute being a superpower? I don't think so. Politically? Sure, and North-Korea doesn't have nukes...

Face it. The world is interdependent. It's the 21th century. Everyone needs everyone. Sovereignty is an illusion.

You're off your rocker man.  It's obvious and everyone who comes here knows it.  Look at how you try to post your hatred and everyone stands up to you.  You've got no idea what my country is like and you've been brainwashed by your ideology.  You don't know what the idea of freedom is.  You can tell by how you keep trying to divert attention away from our founding documents.   We who stand for freedom know what we stand for.  It's not what America is right now, but you choose to ignore that.

But I've got news for you Madace, it's changing and it's changing rapidly.  You can feel it on the streets of America.  And if you were here you'd see it too.  But you choose to pick what you read and what you believe.  So go ahead and carry on as usual.  But when you find that your world isn't quite matching up to what you expected to happen, we're all going to be sitting by laughing.

My prediction is that it's only going to take a few more elections in this country and as more and more people wake up to what is happening we're going to go back to our founding documents with a velocity that is mind blowing.

I would have never joined the military and fought for this country if I thought its time was up.  You can hate my country and what it stands for if you want, that's your decision.  But I have a feeling that if you keep that up it's not going to be too much longer that you and yours are going to be knocking on our door for help again.

What do you mean by that?  I think the ideals of freedom that this country was founded on are completely correct.  I know you try hard to taint those ideals by bringing up history, but it doesn't work.  See, my ancestors were done wrong by men who weren't quite ready to live out those ideals of freedom yet.  But our country was founded on a group of standards that laid the groundwork for that freedom to take root and grow for everyone in this country.

    And it is!

I am proud to be 1/2 native American.  I am more proud of what my country stands for.  And I would gladly give up everything to know those ideals still stand.

I don't have an ideology. (not one you would understand, I mean) I'm free from unrestricted love for something that doesn't exist, unlike you who is calling himself a patriot because he closes his eyes for everything that would make a conscious person puke.

    That's not patriotism, that's fear.

If I supposedly don't know anything about your country, then how would you know anything about mine? You don't.

Your founding documents could be anything. So what if they ensure freedom? American slavery, no universal suffrage, child labor, 1% of the population in prison, massacre of the native Americans, ... That's the normal everyday reality. No matter what's on a piece of paper.

    Reality>paper.

What are you talking about? Obesity?

And what are you saying actually? Previously you were talking about your supposedly unparalleled freedom and then you're saying that's changing.

    Make up your mind.

My prediction is that it's only going to take a few more elections in this country and as more and more people wake up to what is happening we're going to go back to our founding documents with a velocity that is mind blowing.

Okay then. Go back to which age? When was the time that those documents were being supremely obeyed? What it the 1790's? The 1850's? I'm curious. When was this glorious age you are so anxious to return to?

I would have never joined the military and fought for this country if I thought its time was up.  You can hate my country and what it stands for if you want, that's your decision.  But I have a feeling that if you keep that up it's not going to be too much longer that you and yours are going to be knocking on our door for help again.

Dude, it's not because you allow yourself the important freedom of seeing your country as what it is, just a country and not something divine, that its time is up.

And please... Stop. Stop pretending US administrations ever went to war to help someone. No country ever did. If a country does something, then it's in its own interest. The US had selfish reasons to participate in WW1 and WW2. All countries had.

Just like France had selfish reasons for making the US independent.

Thank God Im an American where our country *currrently* still values self identity and national patriotism and no amount of your anti-American rhetoric or dribble will ever change that, bud

Thank You!!!  Exactly what I believe!

How can anyone who is a part of the E.U. even begin to understand America????

Very easily. As I understand it, the US is the United STATES of America. Meaning that they're united entities.

And you know what? Those entities released a whole lot more sovereignty to the federal government than EU nations do. In fact, the EU doesn't even have a federal government.

At least EU countries have a culture and an identity strong enough that they don't have to fear cooperation with other peoples, like people like you do.

You don't get it, do you?

Man, I feel sorry for you.

I wonder what you'll be doing with your national identity. Just cower in a corner, hide it from the sunlight and hope it won't grow up so you'll be its mammy forever...

Cower???  That's funny man.  Really funny.

I'd like you to go through what I've gone through for my country and then see who cowers.

Like Enigma said, you're just full of anti-American dribble.

I respect your sacrifices. But why not give another sacrifice? Look at your country objectively and start seeing it as it is.

    No, we don't know that.

If you wish to know something about American culture- and we have plenty of it- why don't you come to America? It may not be 1200 years old but it's much more diverse than you're used to. You might even have a good time! Why not ask mommy and daddy to let you get out of the basement for a few weeks and come trolling on over.. maybe see Austin, Texas or New York City

    Maybe Los Angeles or Phoenix.

I've lived in all of these places. I can tell you just how bad the illegal immigration problem is in Phoenix and Los Angeles. I grew up with Mexican friends who spoke English because their parents fucking made them learn it

I grew up with third- generation Mexicans that, when they crossed the border some many decades ago, wanted to make something with their lives and not leech off of an over stressed health care system or welfare or sit in our jails and eat 3 free hot meals a day, get warm showers and free TV.

These Mexicans were hard workers because they wanted to make their lives better for their children as well.. they taught them English, the language of my country.

Illegal immigrants today feel we must learn to speak Spanish because they're not going anywhere. They're going to amass a majority vote and vote unsuccessfully to secede back to Mexico.

Mmmmh. Perhaps freedom of speech should become an American value or something. I employ you to seriously consider it. It's doing quite well in many places across the world. Set aside your pride and consider adopting it. I know it wasn't your idea, but we won't mind you using it.

The mere fact that people are getting "pissed off" about this means that they need help and aren't able to be objective.

I'm happy that you are posting all this so that more people on these boards can see how ignorant you are about things.

I'll tell you how those American freedoms have helped people.  We no longer have slavery in this country.  And if you go back and look at M.L. King's speeches, you will find that he talks about those freedoms and puts them in the faces of American's who weren't living up to them.  That's critical right there, so read it again.  THEY WERE AMERICAN'S NOT LIVING UP TO THE FOUNDING IDEALS!!!!

If it weren't for the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence, M.L. King might as well have been pissing in the wind.  But he had those things to show that we are better than that as a nation.

Like I said, those documents laid the foundation for what we have become and our future evolution.  I'm smart enough (even as a Native-American, even one that you seem to think is too stupid to remember our genocide, whom my family members were a part of no less) to see that.

As I recall slavery existed long after you had those ideals. Well, I'm assuming as you don't seem to be able to define those ideals.

Mr King is not something you want to bring up. He's the living proof that those ideals, weren't being used deep into the 20th century. It's sad someone like him HAD to exist. And remember he got shot. Some ideals.

So what do those ideals mean then? If people don't live up to them... Then what's their point?

If it weren't for the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence, M.L. King might as well have been pissing in the wind.  But he had those things to show that we are better than that as a nation.

Before Mr King there were thousands upon thousands of people "pissing in the wind". I really think there were many black people, protesting as they were being dragged to trees to be hung.

So when are those things of any importance? When will they be applied?

Like I said, those documents laid the foundation for what we have become and our future evolution.  I'm smart enough (even as a Native-American, even one that you seem to think is too stupid to remember our genocide, whom my family members were a part of no less) to see that.

I wonder, would you be able to see what was wrong in your country without those documents? Other people in other nations have succeeded therein...

Why do Americans seem hell-bent to keep referring to a document written by slave-owners hundreds of years ago. A document that has comfortably been ignored on many, many occasions.

So really, what guarantee do these documents hold?

I suggest you switch from praying to documents to thinking for yourself.

What does the US intervention in WW2 have to do with ANYTHING? Do I owe Americans some kind of mind loyalty or something? Has my right to freedom of speech been revoked? Then you should shut up to all the French.

And it's not because you keep another country from committing genocide that you somehow have been excused for decimating a people yourself. Also, one doesn't have to be fascist or evil to commit genocide.

I already addressed this point, btw:

Luckily the world isn't as black and white as you make it seem.

I don't think people would have evolved to have a brain larger than a peanut, if they would only need to understand a world as simple as the one you are suggesting exists.

Somehow you're suggesting the US didn't enter WW2 out of their own interests. I would very much want to read your argumentation about this. And many historians share that wish with me.

MadAce and me don't always see eye to eye but I have to stand up here for him. the "Everyone stands up to you" has to be corrected to "Americans stand up to you" because apparently many seem people to think that it's outright blasphemy for an European to criticize the United States. People are attacking MadAce for not living in the united states and claiming he does not know what he is talking about which might as well be translated to "You're not an American, so shut up".

The whole American "The land of the free" is nothing more then a mindset drilled in your brains to raise the patriotism. We don't know what the idea of freedom is? You're incorrect. speaking as a dutch person, I know very well what the idea of freedom, with the only difference between your country and mine is that we actually live up that idea of freedom.

America is gaining a lot more negative attention from certain nations then every european nation. If there is going to be any door knocking, it's going to be the US.

Really, the amount of ignorance I have seen posted in this thread by so called "patriotic Americans" is truly mindblowing.

The arguement that a country can't have a "national identity" if it's part of the European Unition is so downright ridiculous that's it's almost embarrassing.
