AoC Launch moved again to June?

fansedefansede Member UncommonPosts: 960

Just got an email alert that my preorder won't be ready until June 2nd. A little push back? Or is WalMart shafting me?

I checked the website where I pre-ordered and some others but they still have May 23th (I live in Europe) as the release date. So I think WalMart is indeed 'shafting' you.

Too early to say I told you so but whos Walmart?

I would double check that...I can't see WalMart having inside news that has not been announced anywhere else. Gamestop n othersites are still May. N I seen nothing mentioned on the AoC website or forums of a new date.

    probably a walmart issue

a delay would be for at least  1 month or more

    - not 2 weeks

You mean squeaky clean Wal-Mart ( what a crock ) is actually carrying the game? Astonishing.

But I agree with the others who asked: who the hell buys their games at Wal-Mart?

Not I, but getting to that point if not for Best Buy and Circuit City!  Wal-Mart has a better PC selection than Gamestop and EBGames do now........heh

Also gotta remember Wal-Mart may not be huge in video games, but they are extremely huge all over the world, so if there was inside info to be had Wal-Mart would be one of the 1st to know this!  They have somewhere between 40k and 50k stores in the world.

Wouldn't surprise me to see the game pushed again, its not ready anytime soon!

Ok, WalMart is problem. Man, I thought FunCom had a good reason listing them as a retailer for their game. I'd figured what the heck, now I am sadly mistaken.

Takes Walmart time to manually censor each copy of the game…kidding….maybe not?

Give it some time. The religious right here in the US is too busy making up their minds if McCain is conservative enough for them (and praying he doesn't take Romney as VP) to represent them in our upcoming elections. Once the elections are over they'll have more time to go back to dictating the morals that other people should live by and can get to writing nasty letters to Wal-mart.

Isn't Funcom based in europe? If yes, then why does it really matter where you buy it? Most CD's are printed by a machine using a small crew, and even those factories are usually outside the US. So basically, buying at Gamestop is the same damn thing.

The game has not been delayed. The release of the game will be May 20. If your copy from Wal-Mart won't be ready until June 2, that's Wal-Mart's issue.

Buy it in the U.S., it's uncensored. Buy it in Germany, it's censored. Go figure.

Who cares if they sell a lot of stuff thats not made in the US, most of the stuff you own isnt made in the US because if it was you probably wouldnt own it because it'd be so expensive. Even when you buy something foreign the US benefits because of import taxes.

You might get a clue from the stock price (search funcom at finance.yahoo.com)

It started falling sharply on January 17th, 4 days before the announced delay on the 21st, hitting a low of about $19/share,so Norwegian traders seemed to know what was coming.

But after the announcement of the May release, it started climbing again and it's holding steady at around $34/share now.

From that, I would say if we see the stock falling sharply again, a new release date is about to be announced.

From what I understand, there are legal issues which FC must observe, concerning how much time before the original release date they must inform investors of a push-back. That is of course what lead to the stock-price dropping back in January but I believe I read in an article (not sure where, will have to browse again) that you need to inform investors at least 2 Months in advance of a push-back. A legal issue.

Since we haven#t seen stock-price drops so far, and if that info is correct (I can't guarantee it), there will be no push-back.

That's interesting.  If the investors knew 2 months ahead of the push-back, I wonder why the stock started falling 4 days before?

It really crashed on August 9th--do you know what happened then?

No wait, you misunderstood me. The investors have to be informed two months before the previously set release date.

Earlier this year, the release date was 25th of March. The delay was announced Mid January.

    Sorry for being unclear. <.<

Ah, the March release was announced on August 10th.  Interesting--the stock fell on August 9th, so stock traders must have gotten wind of it a few hours early.

Good money to be made on the stock if they set a new release date.
