Just another grinder
Account has been stolen, why would someone want to steal my account?
Mythos is made by Flagship Studios which was founded by the team that designed the Diablo series. So I would guess they know how to make Diablo style gameplay.
Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
Looking back on Diablo's popularity from the past, and thinking about how no new games since has taken up that type of gameplay ever since, its almost a sure thing that the game will become very popular if they advertise it enough. It really has everything that the Diablo player was looking for, and last time I checked, there were many of those players, Mythos only needs to be publised more when it comes out of open beta.

It actually is a really great game in the style of Diablo. Its not dark like Diablo was, it has more of a cartoonish feel to it. But that by no means makes it bad. To call it a grinder does it injustice. Just like any MMO there are quests, crafting (while it has hundreds of ingredients it is pretty simplistic), and I suppose grinding if you want to, but by no means do you have to. It has faults like any other game, but is it the next Diablo? It's about as much Diablo as Titan Quest was to put it bluntly.
They have actually improved on a lot of things as well. The look and feel, skills, and even player involvement. Move invites are going out soon so anyone interested in testing out the beta should go sign up on http://www.mythos.com/
And thinking of the hype that its given already, AND ITS STILL IN CLOSED BETA. So just think when the gaming community will have an all access pass to it and will trully see how much of a 1up it is on Diablo II.

No. Not even close. It has a similar playing style, but in will never- and I mean never- reach the popularity that Diablo had.
One good reason why?

It is very possible it can become the new Diablo. All the reviews for Mythos have been positive and it is still in beta testing. For a free to download, free to play game Mythos is great fun. Been in beta since almost the very beginning and it has been a blast. I think people will enjoy it once it gets released to the public.
The thing that made the diablo games so enjoyable for me was the atmosphere and art style. Mythos' art style is radically different. However I am still anticipating the open beta to try it for myself.
Also, Mythos has 3 types of gaming styles. Normal, Elite and Hardcore, Hardcore being if you die you completely loose your char. With this in mind, it gives this game a very realistic approach and pvp daring aspect new to this genre.

If they make it like D2 or GW, as in pay and play with no monthly then yes, it can probably surpass D2 of today, but I doubt any game can surpass D2 of old.
I still play D2 now and then and the euro server can have anything between 20-60k players logged in, yes logged in.
Add the asia and US realms and we are looking at a game that is 8 years old and still have a player base probably only surpassed by WoW.
Back in the days that number could reach well into the 200k and upwards on each server, thats more players playing at any one time then most MMO have had active subs.
Mythos is indeed a lot of fun, it does not take itself to seriously and does not promise the world, wich is why I think it will succeed.
It is not the crazy addiction that D2 is though I think, the constant loot runs or whatever is not there, at least not as easy.
I could spend an entire day doing nothing but pindle/shenk runs and actually enjoying myself most of the time.
Mythos do not have that staying power.

I can't believe this is even being discussed.
Mythos is a great game, no doubt. I've been playing it since the Beta began, but it in no way, shape, or form can come close to what Diablo II was. It has some good gameplay, great graphics for it's game type, interesting races, and a good beta community, but gets repetative quick.
Diablo had a fantastic storyline rich with lore. Mythos has absolutely NO storyline what-so-ever. The entire game is about doing odd-jobs for other people, pretty much "x person has a problem with x monster. Go to x dungeon and go to x level to dispatch said monster"
Each quest uses the exact same dungeon, the only difference is the number of levels. Pretty much, in each zone you're doing the same thing over and over when it comes to the "main" quests. Then the others involve killing monsters to get an item or something. Getting good gear in Mythos means buying expensive maps from a vendor, and then revealing a location, in which you go to a duneon (which is exatcly like others, just different in some ways) and go and search the entire place for a key, and unlock a chest. I mean, c'mon. I'd rather do Baal runs.
Like I said, Mythos is great, and I'm a fan of the game. But the fact of the matter is, it's just not as good as Diablo II. Maybe it's because I like to actually have a story in the games I play, or perhaps I like the darker feel that Diablo had (and many many others will agree). In fact, I think the comparrisons to Diablo could actually hurt Mythos. People will be expecting a nostalgic Diablo experience, and they'll get something, while similar, quite different.
And on the other hand, Hellgate: London has shown us that just because a development team has people who made Diablo on it, doesn't mean the game is going to be good.
But, this will be a moot point when Blizzard announces Diablo III, in Paris, at the WWI.
Unfortunately, although I do enjoy Mythos for what it is, it just doesn't have the same compelling factors as the Diablo series. I actually wanted to know what happened next with Diablo. With Mythos, I just get a few levels and log out 'til next time. Nothing special to hold me for very long at a time.
I voted maybe-its too early to judge it as its just a shell of a game at the moment. Until the story line stuff is put in (its going to be seperate for each zone, with all the stories connecting in some way) its hard to say how much appeal it will have.
What they do have right now is solid gameplay,a nice art direction and eye candy scenery,a very refreshing crafting system and though still in need of balancing,a pretty good and versatile set of class archytypes. It all works well and is relatively bug free.
They still however desperately need to fill out the zones properly and add more quest paths, sort of the skill imbalances and add a story to the whole thing.Plus there needs to be reasons to group and memorable bosses beyond the 3 or 4 they currently have. Right now its just log in for an hour and quest, log out. No need to group or talk other than in the always active general channel (something hellgate lacked..). The pvp is pretty up in the air at the moment too.
The style has been done before.Diablo in 1996 was like a huge breath of fresh air to a stale RPG market, something Mythos can never achieve as in 12 years weve seen countless hack n slash loot em ups. It could still end up being a really good game but it depends if FSS can pull it all together, and dont rush it out the door half baked.
MUCH better than HG:L which is kinda sad when you think about it.
Please keep in mind to those saying there is not enough depth into the game such as story lines, new dungeon layouts etc.... ITS IN CLOSED BETA right now!! There is sooo much more they will add. they are simply putting down the basics right now ( wich got ALOT of people going crazy ) so there is much to be added. Keep in mind also, these guys know what they are doing, they have made Diablo, they know how to put more depth into a game no problem.

No, they were some of the people ( this does not mean they were any of the important people who made Diablo, only that they were on the team ) who made Diablo. As far as knowing what they're doing, it's hard to say when they are also responsible for Hellgate:London.
Also, we're discussing the game as it is now, not what it will be sometime in the future. And the main guy on the Mythos team made Fate, not Diablo.
There is 1 guy from the diablo team on the mythos team, I believe hes in Q&A.
O.o Not just 1man from Diablo its Bill Roper the lead designer of Diablo who made FSS!!!!!!!!
So i was very exited to HG:L as new diablo but that just sucks mythos is such much better then HG:L
And yes Mythos will be the next Diablo coz he designed D2 and bliizard is never able to do a right D3 as we loved D2. D3 would gonna be a WoW clon lol.

Yes, Bill Roper. The guy who called Hellgate: London an mmorpg (there was a laugh), and leads Hellgate: London as it slowly dies. Yeah, BIG confidence in him.
Fortunately, the guy who made Fate is the main designer of Mythos. That is what has saved it so far, NOT Bill Roper.
I too have been in the Mythos closed beta from near the beginning. It will be an awesome game and hugely popular.
Will it be as popular as Diablo 2 was? Maybe. But there weren't so many choices back when D2 was in its heyday.
Comparing it to D2.....
As some have mentioned the storyline is thin so far, but it is in closed beta, so who knows if it will be devloped into something substantial.
The graphics are WOW like. Cartoonish, but they are dayam good IMO, if you like that style.
The gameplay is similar to D2. Hack and slash/cast spells/ send your minions to destroy the bad guys; what's not to like?
The skills are fairly good and probably as good as D2, but they use a Guild Wars recharge type system, generally.
One thing Mythos promises that D2 didn't really do much of is continuing content. This factor could really make Mythos a huge success in the D2 range.
Another possibility for Mythos to surpass D2 is the camera view. It is now default locked into the 3/4 overhead view ala D2, but you can alter the options to give it a 3rd person WOW like look to the play. Unfortunatly, the control settings right now don't allow you to really set it up for the 3rd person play properly. I expect they will afford that option in the future.
Mythos has so far Human, Satys, Gremlin and Cyclops races. D2 had humans, period. So Mythos has an edge there. Right now the classes are Bloodletter, nominally a meleee class, Gadgeteer, a shooter class with contraptions as a sideline, and Pyromancer, the mage with fire type magic. Each of these classes has 3 disciplines that allow for some different kind of play such as summonables. To be in the D2 range of success they may need more of these options.
One area that I think Mythos will fall somewhat short of D2 is the items. They have the usual rares, uniques ans socketed stuff, but so far no rune words. I feel the single thing that made D2 so popular was the incredible item system. Many of the runewords and uniques became legend. BOTD, Windforce, etc. were gear that just instilled awe in the players. In D2 your gear is everything. In Mythos not so much. And so far I don't see items in Mythos becoming a "hosehold name" (if you will). Maybe the devs will implement a more memorable items system as the game develops, but it doesn't look that way so far. Big mistake.
Mythos will be a great game in it's own right when it is done. As good as D2? In it's own way, I think so. I expect it to be HUGE. Being free (except for the real money item sales which they promise will only allow faster progression, not a better character) will make what is going to be a high quality game successful in the extreme.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth.
