Bit torrent is in direct cooperation with the RIAA and MPAA now, just so you know. I recommend utorrent ( make sure to check "force encryption" in the preferences ) and make sure to throw in a little Peerguardian 2 with that.

Also, if you have a cable broadband connection, expect to be throttled whether you are sending legal torrents or not. Another plus on the side of DSL.

Why is Bit Torrent working with the RIAA? That's like selling out to the enemy isn't it? I downloaded utorrent and where in the Preferences is that force encryption? What is peerguardian 2? Educate a ninja man. Explain.

In the upper left corner, you will see an "options" tab. Click it and choose "Preferences". Now, select the "Bit Torrent" in the left pane. On the right side, find the "Protocol Encryption" box. Change it to "Forced".

Peerguardian 2 is a tool used to block certain "people" and "organizations" from being able to connect to your comp. phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

Thanks man. Also is there something around where I can learn how to use PeerGuardian. I think i skipped a setup where I should have checked the spyware and gov. boxes. How do I go back?

Easiest way would be uninstall, then reinstall. When using it the first time, and whenever you fire it up afterwards, always "disable", "allow http", and then check for updates. When it's all updated, hit "enable", "block http", and you're set. Sometimes, you'll get an "error connecting" or something on the update downloads. Just abort, let it refresh itself, then update again until all the list have "no update needed".

For a while now. Keeps the inventor Bram Cohen out of legal trouble, since Bit Torrent was designed with legal filesharing in mind, if he supports the war against piracy. For instance, he bought isohunt and then made the site open to monitoring from the music/movie associations. This is why Peerguardian comes in handy.

No client is 100%, and I don't know enough about Bit Lord to really say.

Hit "List", then choose "blocked". Those are the ones' you worry about, and they'll usually have a name, whereas "safe" ips will just have the ip address.
