I remember reading you played solo up to level 20. But my question is: is the content soloable after that? I am, of course speaking outside of being attacked by players looking for easy blood. I am strictly talking npc content. Either way I'm playing, but I was just curious.
Can't wait!

Yes, there is enough solo content outside of the noob zones to level you up to 80 (I have my sources), however if you roll a toon on one of the FFA pvp servers...things might get...troublesome
You mean "Interesting"
Interesting has a certain flair to it, yes...heh heh heh
Most of the PK crowd will not attack you unless the odds are heavily on your disfavour. The true PvPers is another ball game, but these usually don't attack unless they have a reason to do so.
Unfortunantly for solo levelers, the PK crowd usually travel in packs and outnumber the true pvp crowd. At least in my experience...
thats the price you pay for FFA server...
From what i hear its a solo mmo to 80 so why i should pay a monthly fee till level 80 is beyond me

Are you one of the people that wish to be forced to group in order to do anything in game?
It is a viable way to level to the max. It's not the only way. And the game does not end once you reach the max level either.
Over the years online gaming became more popular and cheaper. And many people, got bored with the games. The quality of the online community went downhill from month to month. Been a hardcore D2 player for a while. It was aboslute doable to group in HC for a while until more and more Kamikaze PKs spawned out of nowhere. I dont know.. do they breed them somewhere ? I mean... rolling a kamikaze PK is the dumbest waste of time ever. I was forced to solo HC if i wanted to survive. At some point it got really boring to play HC solo.
I hopped through some of the real MMORPG's that released everywhere. FFA rulesets where always the home of the breeded kamikaze PKs. Other games shined because PvP was only an extension of roleplaying or the struggle about the rarest resouces. Most of those games died by bad management or because some guilds wherent guilds but gangs. In and outside of the game. The value of WoW RMT is somewhere between 30 and 100 million dollars. If you want to know who provided the in-game curency to the sellers, then you have found them. Gangs of breeded kamikaze PKs who made a living out of games. And it legal, cant get busted like when selling drugs.
At some point i met a gnome in EQ2. She was a girl in real life and reached level cap only with fluff. Those who know EQ2 know what i mean. Collections, L&L, languages and that stuff. Hehe, though this girl i saw the light. While the "cool" male players buy plat from the gangs to buy the collections to level up as fast as possible, she did them to level up with an incredible patience. Since that time i turned into a soloer and the light is still shining bright enough to see what online gaming is about nowadays. The worst breeding grounds are FFA PvP servers and raids.
However, you shouldnt care to much. I am an old fart trying to share some XPerience Go play prison or be part of a RMT industry that is bigger then the gaming industry. I dont care, ill just follow the light
I'm not sure why you're responding to my message. I just commented on the guy that thought that this game is a 'singe' play experience (as opposed to a 'solo'-able play experience).
Best (fast) grouping MMO I found so far was DDO. But that game is build around grouping in a pleasant way.
Wondering if you've played on a FFA PVP server in the past 5 years other than in WOW. In most other games, you can expect to be attacked early, often, and you can pretty much consider everyone else you see or meet an enemy that you will either fight or flee from.
Some players will have a bit of honor and won't "gray-gank", but just as many go with the philosophy of if its "red its dead" (color schemes taken from previous games)
I have friends that will attack you no matter what. If they see you, they'll attack you. Me, I tend to leave folks alone, especially if they are engaged in a PVE fight, (no challenge in using mobs to help beat someone) but obviously other folks won't feel that way.
Being this is the world of Conan, I'm expecting a pretty bloodthirsty attitude from the player base, and will plan accordingly. I also suspect that many players whose only experience on a PVP server is WOW will not last in this environment.
Back on topic, like all games, soloing will be a challenge on the PVP servers, you'll have to have strong stealth skills, or play very defensively.

True...on both accounts and if you've have ever played on Asheron's Call Darktide server...then you'll know what...erm...troublesome means.
hehe, i responded to you but i think i am talking to myself. I think i am about to leave online gaming. After so many years it looks like i have to convince myself a bit :P Those games are so boring. But i also would like to see a CEO get busted for taking money from the RMT industry without paying taxes for it. Yeah, and the gangster with quadcore and 8800 SLI machines but not paying alimony for wife and children while making 3k Euro form RMT. Al Capone got busted that way. That would be the cherry on top of my gaming career.
AoC seems to allow single playing mode all the way to the level cap. If I understood things correctly the single player mode, after sleeping at an inn, also means no interaction whatsoever with other players as you get your own "instanced" zone. I am not sure abotu this though as information was a bit muddled.
The funny thing is that end game seems to consist of large group raids and large group pvp. So after soloing 80 levels you have to join big guilds or whatnot or simply sit and do nothing. Crafting is iffy and there is no free roaming. Replay value also seems rather low due to rather small selection of races (just human in fact), small number of classes, limited zones and linear questing.
Or did I miss something?
PS
@ eugam
Yes, I understand the sentiment of leaving online gaming, AoC just strikes me as pulling things in the way of SP just another notch.
Since this seems to have gotten to be more and more about pvp, after a visit to the AoC website, there will be PvE servers with designated PvP zones. Which means no gankage, but a lot of ass hats like in WoW that think they're hardcore cause they pvp on a pve preferred server.

If i see gems comming out of raids every PvPer is drooling about or if i see other mechnics that activly support the piling up of in-game currency and generating massive needs, then i am out.

Fair enough, my subjective impression is precisely that is the path they are taking.
Endgame - PvP raids and PvE raids. I cannot really imagine endgame based on that without the rat race for shinies.
We will see, I am also one of those that will give it a shot but my expectations are rather low at this time.
This text worries me a bit.
In LOTRO there was fairly enough to do. But once I hit Lvl 50, the eldergame was even in a powerful guild plain boring.
I hope, AoC will do it better.
If only FC would lift the NDA for more opinions.

The last FFA PvP game I played was in a beta. Being in a beta meant that there was no community, nor any reputation to uphold to. So I considered it a couple notches harder than what I would expect from a retail server.
What you mentioned were there. The random ganging squad however was how I described it. Who knows, maybe I'm just more cautious than the average person.
You're right though. Soloing on a PvP server (of any flavour) is indeed more of a challenge than a PvE server.

Just curious. How is playing under prison conditions interessting ? Is your deepest desire to be in sing-sing ? Really no offence ment, but isnt FFA PvP like living in a prison. Together with a crowd of murderers who kill you for whatever you own ?
Isn't non FFA PvP a bit like being at nursery school? If some one swipes your crayons ...whine to a teacher. If someone jostles you in the lunch line ....whine to a teacher. If you don't play nice you get a slap on the wrist....ahh total freedom.
Actually your prison analogy is how shall we say ...errr daft...how can having less restrictions (FFA) on your actions be like being imprisoned? Most fantasy worlds are harsh though sadly most MMORPG's environments make Sesame Street look dangerous. Really if your desire is to be molly coddled then barbie clothes designer is probably your best option.

Life to you is an extremely narrow path isn't it? I mean, if this is how you see it all.

Nothing to worry about in that department. The game costs as much as a single player game and i am almost sure the journey to 80 in the conan universe will be a pleasant one if you are able to enjoy the "mature" storylines. Inbetween and at levelcap there will be some interresting dungeons to vistit. So far AoC is a bargain.
Social endgame migth be a downer. I am forced to join a guild if i want to do endgame crafting. I am willing to join one IF i can find a hardcore roleplaying guild with IC in guildchat. I dont want to read about everyones hangover every sunday over and over again
The NDA is still on and the game's gone gold.No one know what solo play is like because only snippets have been exposed to a few in the general public.

You've lost me there you'll have to spell it out for me? How Does 'FREE for all' equate to imprisonment (confine or restrain) ? Its a pretty ludicrous metaphor, no?
Life is a huge wide path for me but I guess I am lucky. Freedom of thought freedom of speech and freedom of actions largely, I love it. If I understood your point I could answer better perhaps you'd restate it? Seems like it was just easier for you to have a pop at me....we'll make a pvp'er out pf you yet .
