Vista (which I have on 3 computers) is only really worthwhile in a few circumstances:

    1) you have 4+ GB of memory and want to use it all (64 Bit)

    2) You have a D3D10 Compliant Video Card and want to use DX10.

Since you listed neither, I'd reccomend sticking with XP for the time.

Vista does use up alot of resources, but it does not slow down MMOs or any games!  Thats just alot of BS that many are tossing around cause there PC can't handle Vista!

With your specs you would be ok to run Vista, but it wouldn't hurt to add another 1-2GB of RAM!  You can also DL a Vista test from Microsoft that will tell you how well ur PC will run it and what version.

I dont want it to use it all...i just like the style and maybe some of the functions of vista...right now my comp is 64bit and I still run my stuff at 32bit and its fine but i am boooored with XP and i want something new...Maybe a Mac software...my uncle has MacBook and he says that on my comp it will work perfectly and the style is awsome.

if you are planning on an upgrade then Vista is a must.  the manufacturers of parts and the games industry are shifting to vista and you would be wasting your money if you upgraded to fit an XP setup.

i have had no problems with Vista except for the odd crash or two in my old games (usually pre 2004)

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Try linux or something, vista is basically crap.

Actually what features is it you actually want from vista?  Dont tell me you want it just for the theme.

The reason why microsoft put xp back on the shelves is that Techs refuse to use vista. It is a crap program and it will be very short lived, so I would not reccomend using it.  Remember windows millinium edition? well vista is just as big of a joke. People are incorrect to think that developers are not aware of this. I would wait for thext OS to come out because with the bad press vista has gotten already I think that microsoft will try to distance themselves with that program in the near future. Whoever said that people do not like vista because their computers cannot handle it is incorrect as well, I have bought 3 new computers with vista on them and formatted it off as soon as I got them because my friend at TI ( a tech) told me to. No this is not our future. It was a goofup by microsoft.

Vista is more resource intensive than XP and not very program friendly. I don't think it's near as bad as ME, but it is in the same neighborhood. I too would wait for the next version or try a flavor of Linux if you're really bored. I too bought a new PC with Vista on it (it came with it) and wiped it for XP.

4 gigs of ram will only set someone back a bit shy of 80 dollars if you only pretend to bargain hunt.

The operating system does use a bit more memory, but that is due more to the windows superfetch features preloading applications silently to make them launch faster. This service can be disabled.  Most of the issues that happened with Vista at launch were due to very poorly wrote drivers from 3rd parties. Especially video card drivers. The Nvidia 8/9 series cards just got the new WHQL certified driver after nearly 5 months.  There have been recent articles which show that Vista has been able to run games such as Crysis now at the same if not better performance than XP. for example:

    www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2302498,00.asp

People keep making arguments over ignorant issues such as ram usage, while completely not able to answer the simple question of what benefits they receive from ram not being used in any way by the system. When they fail to make a decent argument to that question they will link to some  blog/ biased "tech" site where someone tries to poorly introduce humor all while taking cheap shots at Microsoft.

I'll agree that the OS did ship with quite a few features stripped out, but overall it is more a bunch of code changes under the hood transparent to the user , that were for the better. Is it a mandatory upgrade for someone with a pc already running xp? Not really. Then again, neither is the latest version of OS X or insert your favorite *nix distro of choice.

I'd run Win XP on a machine with those specs.  You can find my current specs in my xfire profile.

I have been using vista since it came out. I have had 0 problems with it aside of the early driver problems, those got solved pretty quickly.

lol you had to get technical :)

I really didn't consider the slight driver problems to a big deal since XP and every OS before that had growing pains when they were first released.

I dont like vista,  it  feel slower then xp, and that anoying security crap,I know you can disable it but still give u shit after, and I actualy tested on both operating system, I get better fps playing crysis on xp.(both high seting dx9)

the only thing that I like is the search function on the start menu, all the rest is useless, fakin windows gadget is gay, that stupid window swap who cares, vista is just xp with a nicer interface with anoying bits added to it.

why change something that work, at least, if you do change it , make sure its better then the last one lol.

and before you go , get a better pc, E6750 2.66, 4 gig ram, 8800 gt, 520w PSU, 16mb HD

maybe one day... when SP46 will come out then, but by that time we'll have Windows Wootsta™ 540 bits edition that will still be shit btw but watever, we cant play videogames without it!

the only good thing about microsoft is there customer service, seriously
