both are really great games.
AOC sold 700K GTA4 sold a few million of the first day
lol you need to be a wee more specific. They said AoC beats GtA IV in Germany and Sweden. You made it sound like it beat it overall
But yes, its a good feat
GTA IV sales figures
GTA IV sales figures have topped 500 million USD in its first week on sale! To put that in perspective Halo 3 topped 300 million USD in its first week on sale last year which makes GTA 4 the highest earning game debut ever! It’s breaking so many records someone better call Norris McWhirter – or at least his successor.
(thats 10 million boxes in the US alone in the first week..AoC sold 400K boxes worldwide in the first week)

LOL at this post. What exactly does dates of pc games that happened BEFORE Age of Conan came out have to do with anything at all? AoC released May 20th at the earliest.

why should i forget about a 1 year old saleschart? i am not comparing aoc to lotro here.. sure im not denying it sold a lot.. and if u dont see any news in this thread why bother talking about it? byee
i dont care about wow, lotro, vanguard etc the point COULD be that aoc managed to dethrone one of most succefull franchises already. And im NOT saying aoc is tha bomb / best selling game.
@rock_harry: i even inserted a nice link to prove it for ppl like you, enjoy

I thought the OPs 1st post was relevant -- good to see AOC being successful

Just for clarification, AoC technically sold 700k copies. They sell directly to places like Best Buy, Wal Mart, etc. They buy the games, and we buy the games from them.
In a marketting sense for video games it is taken into that aspect; the amount shipped to the sellers, since they are the ones really buying from the company first-hand. Not trying to disprove that GTA4's numbers were less than AoC's, because that definitely isn't true. Just said this for the point of that one statement.
But to the OP, sorry, that's only two countries across the world, which even aren't countries with a large base of gamers and not to mention AoC was made around those areas, so they're getting much more publicity out to the game. GTA4 topped any console game that has ever been out in it's first week, at least I believe. Not sure if it beat Guitar Hero but I'm pretty sure, haven't checked my statistics.
Either way it's sold about 100 times more than AoC.... but the amount AoC has sold is pretty darn impressive for MMORPGs.
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
I dont count copies sitting on the Retailer shelf - waiting to be sold to a player
as a vailid representation
Retailer shipments and Player sales are 2 different things
EQ2 fan sites
TL;DR version of what I just stated: When measuring a company's sales, retailer shipments are considered the same thing as player sales, at least that is how every single professional gaming company on the market sees it.
