Think twice before buying this game

First , it is like a game of chance - You can have all the specs right - but it doesn't guarantee the game will work. Read the official forums. Some people are completely unable to play the game because of plethora of different reasons.

If you are the unlucky one. You will get absolutely no answer from support. Don't even hope for it.

Neither will any Funcom worker post anything on Support forum.

Second - The game seriously lacks content. When LOTRO was launched people complained about lack of content. It was nothing compared to AOC. Most of my guild are casual players. They play no more than 2-3 hours a day. They all have few lvl 40 alts. Why? Supposably when you reach lvl 40 there is no more quests to do and you have to grind 40 more levels , in few designated zones. So Funcom developed low level content and hoped to do high level later ... what new ? Leveling is to fast , and it takes a week to hit a brick wall - no more content!

Third - PVP is a joke. Click on yellow arrow next to the map and see how many instances are of each area!

I think the areas can not even support 50 players before creating another shard!

If someone attacks you, and you feel you are going to lose - click the yellow arrow and PUF! disappear to another instance!!!! And nobody can ever find you. Also good luck finding someone specific. You can not even meet your friends

Forth - Promise first , deliver later (or much later, or never) - There is no DX10 , there is no Battlekeeps...

I am very very sorry for spending my money for this game. I could have invested it in Mass Effect , even Vanguard is better investment...at least it is an MMO

    Cry more.

The devs are probably a bit busy, maybe because of a massive game launch?

Patch is coming tomorrow, a very large one at that. At least give them a chance.

Even if the mechanics worked properly and there were no bugs etc, its still a game that gets pretty dull after a while.. kill x grind grind grind game, pretty much.

The only thing it has to offer is the combat, so if you are looking for more, perhaps it is not the game for you. Specifically pvp combat (assuming they start balancing out the classes a bit).  Pretty much have to approach this game as one would approach an FPS game *shrug*

    /agree

Right now I think their is still a large amount of the community in a state of denial.  But they will come around, like they did with Vanguard.  I believe the denial out there that is so vocal it's really a stage of grief.  We all come to sad truths in our own time.

How about simply changing the Topic to "TRY before buying this Game"?

That would make sense to me. I've always said people should try the game before buying it. And no one can tell me that they can't wait a few more days or even weeks (if it comes to that) to test a game for themselves before shelling out the money that they hold so dear. *shrugs*

To the OP, I noticed you had a very split opinion about AoC all throughout the time leading up to release. I've seen you switching from side to side a few times on it and that's why I wonder why you bought it without giving it a try first. *shrugs*

But that's just my opinion. Obviously, everyone else will tell you that it's either "The most crappy game ever released" or "The second coming!". The few people who rationally discuss the game and it's flaws and the chances of those being fixed are rapidly being swept under the rug. I don't even know why I try.

Fanboy (sometimes spelled fanboi) is a term used to describe an individual who is devoted to a single subject in a fanatical manner, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession. Fanboys remain loyal to their particular obsession.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Very sound reasoning, except for one small thing.

It's impossible to try this game without buying it.  Buddy Keys wont be unlocked for 2-3 more weeks, if even then.  Personally this is the very reason that I refuse to buy it.  To me, any game that makes it impossible to try the game without purchasing it, shows they have very little to attract people to the game with.

Maybe the next patch will be OMG awesome.  It could happen.

I am disappointed about the game, but of my thirty days of free play time left I will remain optimistic.  It would take a really good patch at this point to reactivate my sub.  If that happens I will be a very happy mmo fan.

If you by this game all you more or less will get is:

Nice grafic if you can run it.

A more activ comabat system if you play tank.

    And a few pvp area´nas - but....

In the you allready got games like Vanguard, LA II or EQII, there wont be a big dig, so stay to one of this games.

    - The only thing you may lose is the pvp area´ner.

    Beta:
GW, WOW, AOC, DAOC, DOD, L2, VG.
    Playd:
GW necro msx, WOW never maxd, DAOC reaver-paladin-cabalist-vamp max, L2 never maxd, VG never maxd.

    Play:
    Daoc - Paladin. Classic.

    To TsukieU:

For somebody that never tried the game, you sure have a strong opinion against this game. For anybody else, just check his post history.

    To the OP:

I agree with you with one slight difference. I believe that AoC is exactly where LOTRO was when it launched. And by the way, whoever told you that you'll need to grind post 40, has been feeding you misinformation.

I've been playing the game for about a week now, and I'm having a great time. Perhaps I haven't gotten to the part where it sucks. Who knows? I have played every game ever on the market and I have stopped playing every game on the market for some reason or another. I simply have not found a reason yet to stop playing this one. Yet.

I would tell anyone to give it a shot. You may like it. However, if money is tight, wait for a trial.

Just like DvD's, just like HD, just like anything brand new, MMO's are TERRIBLE at launch.

I just lie in the cut until I know it's either a) solid as a rock, or b) squishy as a sponge (a monthly fee absorbing sponge ;))

I played the beta for AO when it came out... then I bought it. It sucked hard at the start, so I canned my account. Then I got curious and logged back in years later and, it was vastly imporved. That was just an example, I don;t play it anymore.

Give it time, it's too early to say whether it's good OR bad. At least it's well presented.

The, 'when' that everyone keeps touting is the appearance of the first billing cycle.  Which would be the 19th of June I think.  But personally, I don't think it'll even happen then.  But it's an opinion which is why I said it was unlikely in my post, not certain.

So then, let's assume it will be available in June, after the first month. That would be 2 weeks from now. Which is what I alluded to in my post as well. I can't understand why people who are so uncertain about a game can't wait that long. Or people who don't want to -misspend- their money.

Personally, I'd think anyone knowing MMO's from past experience would actually be -glad- to wait a few more weeks till he/she tried it, knowing that many of the bugs from launch will probably be resolved by then. And yes, even LOTRO was no stranger to bugs at launch (even if they were surprisingly little and one of the smoothest launches I have witnessed, still it was not perfect).

As for your personal opinion of when BK's will be released...we'll just have to agree to disagree and see what happens.

On top of all the problems outlined by the OP, in the EU we have a latency problem that makes the game unplayable for many players.

    forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

and this recent post on the forums has confirmed that FunCom are unable to do anything about it because it is now, no longer a technical issue but a management/political one with the guys they have their servers with. :(

I don't regret trying the game but i do regret trying it at this point as it has put me off to the extent that i would now never go back as i don't trust it will work properly for me. Shame :(

Sorry, but no you cannot get to level 40 playing 2-3 hours a day in a week. I have leveled up 3 characters, one to 30, one to 20, and now one to 10. It took around 30 hours total time to get to level 30(type /played in chat). 3 hours a day would be 15 hours in a week. Also I still have plenty of quests at 30(havn't even visited anything but the conal valley, and there are quests in the three other major zones, stygia, cimmeria).  And no battlekeeps? They are implemented... You can meet your friends, add them to your group and in your group list right-click their name and there is a option to summon them to your instance. And the max players in a instance is around 98. Plus with tons of updates coming tomorrow..

...You did not allude to a few weeks.

I believe the exact wording was, 'A few days, or a week if it even comes to that'?

Anyway, I've never witness a MMO that did no release with Buddy Keys.  I've never even seen a single player or multiplayer game that didn't release with a demo.  To me this is fundamental, it gives people a taste, and it gives the company a chance to show off their best.  That Age of Conan released without either a Demo or Buddy Keys shows to me, that they have no 'best' to give us a taste of.

buddy keys will have to wait 2weeks more.

the best of age of conan is lvl0 ---> lvl40, which are brilliant.

next lvls are more buggy/missing content and far from perfect. lets give them a couple of weeks, even if they don't deserve them. we all want a good game to play right?

Well sorry. I suggest you read my posts more clearly next time before assuming what I was typing and making assumptions based on it.

But this has gone on long enough. We'll see when/if the Buddy Keys are released and how AoC will fare in the future. Some of us will play the game while that happens, others will not. Still others will continue to attack it viciously, and yet others will defend it just as viciously. That's the way it goes with MMO's it seems.
