hey guys, this is my first post on mmorpg so be gentle with me here. im not to great at starting a introduction, hell ive never even done an interview before, so lets just get into it.
graphics
the graphics in this game are going to remind you of guild wars, a lot of this game is going to remind you of guild wars.. well if you played it. i felt that age of conan had a high demand for a mediocre visual while other games (mentioned above) could give you the same for less.
over all id give the graphics a 7.5 out of 10 just because of what they demanded vs what you get.
gameplay
here we go.. as it is your going to have a different point of view on this depending what you play. in PvE the combat system age of conan presents works very very well.. now in pvp its another ball park. as many of you know ( for the few of you that dont) for melee in age of conan youve got to press 1 2 or 3 (or whatever else depending on how you bind it) for swings.. later they will introduce Q and E for bottom left and right swings. now when you execute a special move or combo you have to press 1 3 Q (for example) and your character will do a higher damaging series of attacks. now you have to be facing your enemy for this combo to land. easy enough. the problem however is a little ability called circle strafing.
circle strafing would allow me to take on people 20 levels higher than my self if they were being morons/sub par to average players. for those of you ask " k what is it?" ill explain. in age of conan if you hold down your right click and press A or D you will strafe. (those may be familiar with this in WoW as well.) now all you have to do is move your mouse to the left and you will move in a half circle. while your little friend is busy hitting his buttons youre completely out of the way. now if you want to do a normal attack Via button 2 you can mash that and constantly move. you will slowly chip away your enemy's life while they miss a majority of everything.
*note* a good player should be able to some what circle strafe, use what CC they have, and preform a combo for ultimate effect. depending on the class you might get stances that are appropriate to switch to when having a enemy CC'd you might not.
now this alone is the reason I personally left the game. to me the game felt dumbed down once i would do this and it was the beat all melee button. ( rangers have to be facing you to shoot as well i believe).
i dont think the above applies to the caster classes.. im not to sure. it seemed like casters were doing behind the back allyoop casts on me so the best thing you can do is knock a caster down and dps as hard as you can.
the game has a numerous amount of bugs, which im going to hold against the gameplay because well, it interferes with the gameplay. you can read other articles about those.
over all for a PvE preformance id say the game is around a 8, in pvp id give it a 6.
sound
cant complain to much about this. i'll give it a 9. when walking youre going to hear difference in terrain, and lots of little things like that add up to a good score. musics great, i love the yowling woman they got to sing for the background, and over all i honestly cant think of anything to complain about .
the feel
what makes a mmorpg a mmo? well.. lots of people. age of conan kind of does this and it kind of doesnt. it uses a multi instanced zone thing.. fuck if i know what its called. pretty much it offers a certain amount of people into one area.. and thers a number when it " fills up" it just creates a duplicate area with the exact same content. i think this is a good thing for an initial launch so people arnt to crowded and can get their quests done; but, at the same time i felt the number was a bit small.
having a lot of load zones is a bit weird, and i personally am not a fan. maybe im just used to seamless worlds like asherons call and world of warcraft but its just kinda meh. i think this is some reason something to do with the dated dumb ass graphics engine they went with.
when i first started playing age of conan ill admit i was a bit impressed, the leveling seemed to be going quite quickly, the effects of fatalities were pretty cool, the voice acting didnt annoy me at all, and over all i was having a good time. but, sooner or later you graduate from the single player game ( levels 1-20), get out of tortage and get to the real world. i think age of conan is going to have huge potential for you PvE fans out there but for most PvP fans the game is riddled with balance issues and glitches that will interfere with the smoothness of your pvp.
for those of you that skip to the end fuck you - the rating id give age of conan for pve is a 8.0
PvP standpoint 7.5. you may have to go back to shadowbane for a real siege. sorry folks.
