I vividly, passionately hate lolcoptering. I freely admit it is partially because I am kinda hindered with slower physical reflexes. A MMORPG as being an online based ROLE PLAYER GAME should be differemnt from a shooter and in my perception a mmoRPG (!) should not be combat with bunny hopping. I have zero wish to test MY skill against that of another. I PLAY a character, I AM not my character. If you want to test YOUR skill... go out and play sports!

You guys need to relax.  It's just a game.  If you don't like people jumping around then go play a different game.  Personally I think it's fun to hop around in WoW.  Perhaps I am just easily amused or have an overactive imagination.  It's the little things like watching someone jump around or racing them to the boat that makes the game fun.  I think some games like AoC miss out on this stuff a lot in comparison to a game like EQ or WoW that were packed with a lot of things in the game that didn't really have any impact on your character in combat, but were amusing none the less.  Spells like levitation, illusion tree, amoungst others were just neat to play around with.

Both of those really don't help at all in games because all you have to do is tab to target and just stay pretty close to the guy and you will still hit them.  I dueled somone in EQ2 and they were trying to pull a WoW and I just already had them targeted and had my pet attack them right off the bat so they couldnt sneak around They were running around like a chicken withthere head cut of while I just sat there casting spells.

IDK why people think it actually works for mmos cuz most are auto targeting  now  for a game like DDO or AOC I think it would work where you actually have to aim and be closer to the guy your fighting.  Bottom line it just makes you look dumb and when you lose it makes you look even dumber.

Huh?  You gotta be kidding me.  So you guys just want to stand there and wack on each other?  If that's the case then PvP might as well be just comparing who has the highest value.

"My number is 436, what's yours?"

    "437."

    "Damn!  I lose again."

Seriously, how lame and boring is that?  Also jumping around like an idiot doesn't really help you that much in these games.  A lot of times when fighting someone who's like a pogo stick on steroids I find that staying still and just moving back a little and only turning now and then works best.  At least that's my opinion.

It gives mêlée classes an advantage - and is illogical. If such a system should be added then some kind of debuff should be "given" when jumping and running that decreases your damage, chance of hitting etc.

But they people for it say everyone can do CS or BH and therefore it is fair and then usually some comment about skill.

To me the realy issue has been that mmo's are moving towards more actiony combat, but still carry around the old control scheme for slow paced/turn based combat. I have no problem with action combat in an mmo. But seriously, devs need to devise a proper control scheme for it and not just rely on hot-keys like standard mmo's do. Its not that using the same hand to do the wasd movement AND the hot-keys ( + whatever else they tack on to make combat new and interesting)  is impossible. Its just clumsy. Its bad design, and the players have to compensate for it.

In short: If you make an mmo with slow turn based combat, then use a slow turn based combat UI and control scheme. But if you put more action into the combat.....then obviously it needs better controls to accomodate that. I think some devs are just lazy. Or they havnt realized something this obvious.

    rejad...

take it one step further please.

No one is saying they want to stand there and just whack on each other (insert joke here). There is no reason why a system where strafing, backing up, blocking, etc can't be implemented. But jumping around like a an idiot is just that. I remember the first time I engaged in pvp like that and I couldn't believe it. PvP then becomes about whether or not you can out jump the person you are with. Htting space bar as much as possible does not count for skill.

It's tacky, crappy, lowest common denominator, foolish looking and not to my taste. you like it then more power to you.

Bunny Hopping, in my opinion, is bad for all types of games.  FPS, RPG, you name it.  Circle Strafing on the other hand I'm ok with in FPS games but not so much in RPGs at least when it comes to melee combat.  That might seem like I want to have my cake and eat it too but that's just my thoughts on the subject.

Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

so instead combat should be who can run in circles the fastest spamming 1 or 2 buttons? that sounds pretty fricken boring as well.

its amazing when i read people saying "oh its not that effective" if it wasnt that effective people wouldn't use it much yet in pretty much every WoW PVP video people are using it so don't give me that BS.

Strafing is part of FPS and MMO PVP, if you can't even strafe, LEARN IT.

Bunny hopping is stupid, I agree with that.
