Best PvP? There's really only one answer for that: PlanetSide. Server pops aren't that great these days but ya can't have it all...

Agreed, but I'm sure he means something he can actually play :P
Although I do hear the SWGEmu is running I can't see myself putting time into a private server as you never know when they decide to shut it down. I already had 1 pre cu jedi ruined with NGE.
Best PVP in a current game I say EVE. Faction Wars brings a new way of PVP with no politics of the large 0.0 alliances. Some people love the alliances as you can actually control space and thrive making cash off it. People can invade your home system as you also can invade and conqure theirs.
Some enjoy the politics some don't. It caters to both. PVP has loss. When you die your ship is sploded. You need to buy and fit a new ship. You can loot your enemys wreck for his fittings/cargo not destroyed in blast. You can even ransom someone out of their ship if your a pirate at heart.
PVP effects the universe around you from the markets to the player manufacturing.
EVE also has one thing SWG taught me was very important, Longevity. It's a solid game with a bright future.
SHOHADAKU
Planetside for twitch
DAoC for conventional gameplay
Conan would be up there if it was buggy and incomplete.
Currently EVE, no other game comes close.
being only a space boat doesnt sound appealing to me, ma name is bertha-- wide load turning...
I would say Guild Wars; and after reading your post wonder how much of the PvP you actually tried. My guess would be that you created a PvP-only character looked at all skills, didn't understand anything and then went to Random Arenas. What you excepted was WoW PvP where you smash buttons and jump around like a madman and then call it skill - what you got what was just a bunch of idiots auto attacking eachother.
The problem is that you probably missed that one major part of the whole game is to make your own set of skills, pick attributes, runes, insignias and so on - not just have every skill equipped and use them all. Guild Wars requires and revolves so much around theorycrafting that you actually got a own site dedicated to it - PvX.
As a beginner you've not unlocked very many skills and that's the problem; because in order for the game to be fun you must have at least a decent amount of skills unlocked. Unlocking skills can be done either by buying a skill pack from their shop, acquiring Balthazar faction and buying skills or playing the PvE campaign.
When the most people recommend Guild Wars' PvP they don't have in mind the easier arenas such as Random Arenas or Alliance Battles but rather the higher forms of PvP such as Heroes Ascent and Guild Versus Guild. In the higher forms of PvP it's about your skill as a player and your knowledge of how to react in certain situations. However you will need to join either a guild or get a friendbase - and that takes time to do - if you want to try any of these forms of PvP.
I wouldn't discard Guild Wars as trash if I hadn't given both GvG and HA (preferably not then when playing Randomway) a few tries. If the only thing you've tried is RA then I can understand that you became bored - because that arena is just fun to play now and then; and then not for the PvP experience but for the fun of seeing all bad builds and such.
