Mount and Blade MMO?

Ryder22Ryder22 Member Posts: 132

Personally, i LOVE Mount and Blade and really enjoy everything about it, simply because it gives me the satisfaction that an mmo doesn't. The only thing that is missing would being able to play with other people, even if they were alotted into servers with enough space for 10.

Would be nice if it happened, but as they spent two years perfecting the combat in it, I can imagine they'd do a Darkfall and spend 7 years just porting it to MMO.

Armagan's stated on the TW forums that Multiplayer would, if anything, be implemented in a 'Mount&Blade 2." rather than the current version. That's no MMO, but it is damn fine. :)

I agree! Just imagine, 80 players fighting live in one of the best combat systems ever created... *tears in my eyes*...... That would never get old!

Yes, yes and yes! This game would an awesome MMO. Its been picked up by Paradox now were it was just two people making this game for years, so with the money its possible.

good combat system and it does not drain your system.

one thing i would want to see is an increase in the world size. (80 people on 1 map is nuts)

i think first we shall see a multiplayer mod (by someone with mad networking skills, really mad skills)

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

I didnt mean 80 people on the strategic map, i meant 80 people on the battle map! WUHUU!!

Plus, i dont think this game would work properly as an mmo...

I voted yes but I have reservations about it.

I'm not so sure that the combat system would work in a mmo.  The combat is twitchy and relies on timing and positioning.  In a single player game it works great because your own computer is controling everything.  If you get a little lag..everything lags, not just you.

You guys know what I'm talking about.  Put 80 real players on a battle map hosted by a company server and the people with the best computers and the best ping would win every time.  I'm no expert on this stuff but hasn't this sort of thing always been the issue with twitchy combat in mmo's?

For the guys winning every time it would probably be great fun.  But I'm afraid they might soon find themselves in a very lonely world.  But if they could make it work it would be great.

For now I'd be very happy if they (or some modder) could come up with a multiplayer version just so I could play lan games with one other person.

darkfall online devs are huge Mount & Blade fans and directly stated their combat system would be a lot like it. but dont get hopes up for DFO I'm just mentioning it

I would play a Mount & Blade multiplayer server that would be fine for me too.

Maybe if they had several servers? each with their own specifications, eg.

Server 1 Super Speed, Server 2 High Speed, Server 3 Good Speed, etc..

Did you know that mount and blade was originally made by two people? A husband and wife, and they live in turkey!

I don't think its really designed to be an MMO, nor do they have the team or funds to make one from it! Closest your going to get is Darkfall, combat system is very similar according to the devs. I hope, we'll see.

Horrible animation and repetitve low tech graphics turned me off within a few  hours.  Story and characters weren't engaging at all.  Yes, it was made on the cheap and for that, its great.  But I don't care=)  Its very hard to go from AAA titles down to garage games and still be entertained.   Call me spoiled.  I did't find the battle system all that great anyway.  Coming from God of War, Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry which have best battle systems by far, makes Mount&Blade look and play like a relic.   Don't give me that realism angle...slow and boring is slow and boring and I've been playing the Total War series for years, so I understand & enjoy realism and strategy=)

They could've at least made a few more weapon swing animations.  Its the same stiff crap over and over again.  Again, its nice for what it is, but its not much.  I couldn't bring myself to pay to upgrade the demo and I wouldn't pay a monthly fee to play it either.  Besides, that battle system would crumble with a few actual players on screen at once.  A little latency and it all would go to hell in a hand basket.

No... sorry but i still havent found a person that didnt liked it... What version did you play? The newest one is 0.960 and its fantastic! You cant find it on the front page of the website, you have to go to the forums and there youll see the new version of mib.

You said the graphics are lowend, while that is true they are nontheless beautiful for me... when you turn everything to max in the new version, they are very good, and dont require a highend computer...

Slow combat.... sorry no, have to disagree with you here completely. Its one the best melee and ranged combat systems ever created. Its definitely not stiff, but realistic and cool. The way you ride into battle, slash through dozens of enemies, killing 3 of em, covered in blood (literally).... you make another turn...and kill some more!!!! This game is very Conanesque to me....

Plus, the metacampaign in this game doesnt have a story, its more like a conquest everything, either by joining one of the factions or on your own.... Plus the options this game presents for you are limitless....

P.S. You play mmos! The most slow and boring combat ever created is in mmos, yet here you are telling me mib has stiff combat animations and horrible animations.... No sir!

Your opinion is just as valid as mine but I found the realistic (or at least more realistic) looking combat to be a breath of fresh air.

You know how some people are sick of games with elves and dwarfs because for them it gives a game a cutsey-poo atmosphere that they're sick of?  Ok, for me ridiculous, over the top, wire-fighting type combat animations looks like cutsey-poo Saturday morning cartoon stuff which makes me want to vomit.

I like combat animations that look at least plausibly realistic.  If I'm playing a game and I see my character jump into the air, do the splits in mid-air, spin around 5 times like a ballet dancer, and then sweep out his glowing weapon while spinning and come down like a lawn mower blade on his enemies amid a shower of glitter...well, that's the point at which the game has just unimmersed me and I find myself expecting the smurfs or ninja turtles to come bouncing onto my screen.

PS:  If my cartoon references are a little dated it's because I don't know or care what the popular cartoon shows are these days.
