Well, KOTOR MMO is not announced cause one guy said "yes".

As far as I know, the game will be called The Old Republic, not Knights of the Old Republic. This will not be KOTOR3.

If I am wrong and this is indeed KOTOR3, then weeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Now instead of playing a epic story singleplayer RPG in Star Wars universe, I will play a game with bunch of morons jumping around yellin "I r Jedi and I r pwn u n00b now!!11"

I hope that KOTOR 3 will be a single player game, and that this MMO will be a different game.

Aye Baldur's Gate Online would have been better, but probably would have infringed on DDO somehow.  So just name your chars appropriately:

Darth Drizzt - Darkelf Lord of the Sith !

And Jedi Minsc yelling "Go for the eyes Boo!  Go for the eyes!" is always appropriate in any game you play and miniature giant space hamsters might even be plausible in the old republic mythos.

Has anyone been to the SOE boards to see what the buzz is regarding the increasing possabilty of a new Star Wars MMO? I'm sure many of the diehard SWG fans are not happy about this since this could mean the end of their game. Granted, nothing offical has come the Austin office and this game is at least 3 or more years before it sees the light of day. I'm just interested in what the reactions are at the SOE forums.

I would very much like to hear a real reaction for EA and Bioware. This really is getting to the point of being childish, first spill it out and then be silent about anything and leave us in suspence. I dont know what they hope to accomplish by staying silent any longer now.

Does Riccitiello mean the oft rumored Knights of the Old Republic Online?  "Yes," he said.

Actually his 'Yes' may just mean that the MMO game they're making, and the one he is referring to is the game that is often rumored to be KOTORO, not necessarily that it is going to be that.  That's why it's important that journalists learn to ask questions well.  His 'yes' doesn't confirm anything other than that they are making an MMO and that that MMO is rumored to be based on KOTOR.  That would also explain why he would 'release' this information in this type of format.

However the previous statement certainly implies that it is tied in with a Lucas Arts franchise.  That franchise list also includes Indiana Jones.  It's certainly harder to conceptualize ROTLAO, but it could be done. Indiana runs into other relic hunters in three of the four movies.

Then it wouldn't be the "oft rumoured Knights of the ..." if it was Indiana Jones..

Nah it is Old Republic - the mmo.

This is the best news I've heard this year... Really...

Its stupid to comment the game now, Its too early... BUT one is for sure - BioWare make great games, and Lucas Arts has a lot of money for investing! I dont doubt in them or they project... I would buy black box with no title, if it is from BioWare... This will be simply great! I just hope to see it before I get old :P

Most likely, but there are still some things that don't make a lot of sense about it.

There's SWG.  I don't know if anyone has figured out what sort of license SOE had here, if it's expiring or if it is only for a certain time frame.  If Lucasarts is wriggling out of a contract on what Sony sees as a technicality, then they could be risking destroying relationships with no just an MMO hosting company, but also a very large console manufacturer and movie distributor.

There's the fact that the game was in development for 20 months prior to the agreement was announced between Bioware and Lucasarts.

Finally, the minor fact that they're listed as seperate games on the the Bioware games list.

It coud be that they're actually developing two games, using many of the same elements.

Just based on the KOTOR game, I don't think it's that great a franchise to turn into a MMO.  It was too dark. The giant target audience is really the SWG audience, which is the fans of the movies.  I am sure the KOTOR games sold a lot of copies, but it's piddling compared to how many people saw the movies.

I think Bioware would have been better served going with 4th Ed D&D in the new post-apocalyptic Forgotten Realms than trying to grasp after Star Wars movies fans, who aren't going to be in the 'what the hell is going on here? When do I fight Darth Vader?' camp.  From a portfolio perspective though, EA would be better served by a Sci Fi title than one that would potentially compete with WAR.  SOE showed how foolish that was with EQ2.

Yea I understand the timeline., its just I want a SWG without Jedi :)  But to those who want a Jedi MMO, hope this does it for you.  Playing Jedi and seeing a ton run around just isnt for me, if thats what they plan to do, who knows?  I'll keep a watch out, but after the SOE whipping, I'm very cautious.

well if EA is going to host Lucas' jedis then Sony should think about setting up pre-holocron SWG server just to reoffer the world a unique mmorpg that isn't just hack'n'slay-grinding-hunt-down-orks bantha poodoo.

(and yes i still love that pre-cu swg although i know it was buggy)

i think the only thing that worries me about this game (and WAR), because i loved both kotors, is EA.  they are just the worst.  ill give you an example of my experiences with just 1 of their games.  nba live, ive played it for years.  in 06 they put out a pretty good version of it, it still had bugs, which EA never patched.  as a matter of fact until live 07 EA hadent put out a live patch since 2000, and not beacuase their games didnt need them.  then live 07 came out with a fatigue bug that made the game unplayable. after a month of the community complaining EA released a patch, there was 1 problem, EA messed up all the download links.  after another week of community patchers trying to figure out which patch went with what language version of the game someone was finnaly able to install the patch, it didnt work.  no other patch came out.  most pc gamers were left with a game they fond to be unplayable, the community patchers tried their best to fix it but never really could.

then nba live 08 came out.....same fatigue bug.  not only that but every year EA had not said anyhting about the fact that all the "features" they were advertising were only in the next-gen (ps3, xbox360) vesions of the game.  live 08 was using the same grafics engine since 06, but it may be the same engine from 2000 (looks the same to me just with a few more bells a nd whistles).  EA also took almost all the gameplay features they had added in 06-07 out of the game.  when i played 08 the first time it made me feel like i had stepped into a time machine ans was playing a 4 year old game.  luckily for 08 community patchers where able to fix the fatigue bug.  no patch ever came from EA, it probly woudnt have done any good anyway.

oh and what do pc games have in store for them for 09?  nothing, EA has annonced there will be no live 09 for pc.  no madden 09 either.  pc gamers get soccer...thats it :(  untill i saw whats going on with AOC i thought EA was the worst but FC may have taken the title.

    YES!!!!!!!!

Well I will be playing WAR till it finally releases I guess.  With all of us SW fans this game will come with a great deal of critique I can guarentee that based on SWGs implosion.

All you need to do is look at some RPG's that Bioware have made, there completely capable of turning KoTOR into an MMO, i really hope that they keep the option of player choices leading to the Dark or the Light sight (Always remember the light side is harder to play)

I love KoTOR as do alot of people, so i actually DONT want it to be anything LIKE SWG Pre NGE or whatever. I Hope they stick to the KoTOR Interface and indepth chat logs with NPC's.

I Hope that IF we get party members EG, unlock members such as Juhani, Carth, Bastila or similar,

then I hope they are customizable so we arnt all running around with the same wepons and armour and same looking followers,

But with it being souly an MMO, that probobly wont happen. Raiding will become to easy, PvP.... you get the picture.

For the People who say this should be like SWG - GTFO & GO TO SWG THEN! YOU WONT RUIN THIS!!!

Bioware arnt that stupid though, I'm currently Re-Playing KoTOR I & Sith Lords and still enjoy them alot.

Someones probobly already posted this, but is there an Estimate release date? I Heard around 2011

Well I have just arrived at this forums, but considering how many MMo's ive played and threw away I should of been here along time ago.

I dont just want a upgrade of SWG which im a vet of.. I want the whole SW feel including being a smuggler smuggling spice evading the corsec(or whatever force). I want roles available for only certain classes... Which is kind of like SWG but I want it completely polished and finished. I want a Bounty Hunter to be the dirtiest fighter in the book, and actually "hunt" bountys... not *call droid, Droid: ive found him,go to planet, got ya!*. I want jedi and sith to go through a grueling back breaking decision making quest to gain their power. not pet grind their jedi's with SOE's horrible balancing and kill everything. I want medics to be medics, giving their life to save others. I want evil choices for every character. Some sort of PVP system that can be switched on and off in some spots.. but automatically happen in others. I want a sandbox game. Space combat including massive battles with cruisers and destroyers.. (well you know what I mean "Old Republic" style). Huge planets with everything explorable. Good in-depth leveling system with different paths that can be taken, example...>> for jedi something like this Jedi Guardian, Sentinel , and Consular. For bounty hunters Swashbuckler (melee) Sniper,  Survival. Huge character customization, including many different body sets, armor, and weapons. A fun and easy to use crafting system. (crafting should be a job not a class..) A real GCW including battle zones, scheduled attacks, massive colliding forces..  Real ranking system with some sort of visible thing that shows your rank. Areas some ranks aren't aloud. REAL spys including infiltrating meetings and intercepting transmission , not a funny looking mask and invisible...  simple starting classes that can evolve to new classes. Jobs should provide a good steady income, but why work when you can steal? Structures that can be placed and have a real sense of ownership. Like guards you pay to watch over your compound. And being able to shoot anything on your land without an invitation. Building strategic command posts to aide your side. A structure system that knows when you havent logged on in awhile and your structures slowly degrade so theres no empty structures laying around . Good guild system that really offers depth within the guild. Testing server that offers all items free. A in-grossing story that can be told a hundred times. Choices within the storyline.

And ill post more when I get feedback on this.

Personally, I'm looking forward to having good playable Jedi, with a long training process and skills that develop with experience. Hopefully there will be many paths to follow and a lot of customization, so that they aren't all the same.

What I'm really hoping for here, is that they do a better job on the Space side of the game than SWG did. Pre-NGE, the fighter combat and pilot system in SWG was marginally fun, but they could have done a much better job of incorporating space travel into the game. What would be good, is something on the level of EvE Online, but with the ability to move around inside your ships, dock at and move around in stations, and to be able to operate in the atmosphere and land on planets. Being able to choose your landing spot would be a plus, instead of being tied to spaceports. Obviously, they aren't going to let you land in the middle of a city, but if there aren't any cities on a planet, there should be multiple landing options.

A huge part of the Star Wars feel is the ability to interact on a planet, in a city or wilderness area, but to be able to jump into your ship, and move that action seamlessly into space without having to go to a city and buy a ticket to catch the bus. Can you imagine Obi Wan knocking out the tractor beam, the crew fighting down to the hanger deck, and then Han Solo standing there saying, "hold on, our shuttle will be here in a minute"?

Jedi are fine, they're a huge part of the era, and that's a major reason why their doing this. Just don't make the space travel and space combat an afterthought like they did in SWG, and you'll get my vote. I played SWG for 2 years, before SOE screwed up the game and made it unplayable. Do this right, and I'll be there, lightsaber in hand.

I am pleased to hear the news but will hold my opinions until there are reviews or I get beta access.

I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.

    Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW
