Is this game needed?

AmalaricAmalaric Member Posts: 480

We have Cities of Heroes / Villains where you can tailor a super hero or villain to your choice so what good will this game be?

Will we be able to play as Superman or Batman?

I just don't see the need for this game, maybe if they had created it six years ago but now?

No!

This is just like when the movie studios made two Wyatt Earp or two Robin Hood movies at the same time, it is not needed and I'm not sure if it's wanted either.

why do you want a monopoly on super hero MMO?  get some competition in there and CoH/CoV will strive to be better.  this is good for the gamers of CoH, not bad.

It might drive potential players away from the genre if DC Universe launches in an unfinished state.

We have a game like this already no more is really needed.

so they bring out a better hero game?  better games are a good thing.  we wouldn't have the games today without competition.

I respectfully disagree, but I understand that you don't want the genre to be abandoned by would-be developers.

CoX is not a title that I've ever enjoyed.  There are a couple of reasons for this.

a.) The gameplay is extremely repetitive.  The instances that you run to are frequently identical (even if you must run the length of the entire zone to reach the instance), the mobs are fairly repetitive, and the actual game play itself - what you're doing in those instances - is also quite repetitive.  This also kills replayability for me.

b.) The graphics are quite dated yet the game's performance is fairly poor.

While I currently have very little interest in the DC MMO specifically, I do want more options in this genre.  If it is just another CoX but with nifty graphics (highly instanced and such) then it may very well flop, but that does not mean that we do not need more options.

A super hero / villian MMO could be a pretty cool break from the norm if it's executed correctly.  If it feels like more of the same then I don't expect it to do well.

If it's a fresh experience then I'll give it a serious try.

The biggest concern shouldn't be about the risk to this sub-genre, it should be that the development studios may not be willing to take risks.  That, more than anything, will bring failure.

When did you see a better game from these people than the competition?

    EverQuest?

Yes but that was a long time ago.

dont see why not. If they can include the character customization of CoX with better game physics (which it seems they do), then i'm all for it. As well, if they can make some kind of meaningful end game,  PvP and non-repetative content then they're light years beyond CoX.

then you have nothing to worry about here. lol

you made this poll sounding worried they would steal from CoX.  if they make a bad game like always then don't worry about DC Universe.

Voted for Yes also. Is there just one fantasy themed MMO? No. One sci-fi themed MMO? No. Why does there have to be one super hero themed MMO? There doesn't.

I think this game is needed, you could argue the same for Champions Online which is another superhero MMO from the original creators of the CoX games Cryptic. Champions is kind of like DCUO in that its an already established universe with, while not as long a history as DC but still a pretty long history. I think both games will give NCSoft some competition as well as giving players new choices. Don't get me wrong I'm a long time player of both CoH and CoV having been with CoH since its release week, and CoV since its beta. I'm personally looking forward too trying some new superhero games.

i think its ironic that we had (5?) years of CoH and now all of a sudden 2 new titles are announced and will no doubt be close to each other on release dates.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Do we need another Super Hero MMORPG? I think so, for the following reasons:

    - City of Heroes is 4 years old. it's time for a new game

    - While both share a comic book theme, the gameplay in the two are different. City of Heroes has a slightly speed up version of traditional combat whereas DCU seems to have more action based combat, a bit of twitch gameplay if you will

    - No offense to City of Heroes, but a comic book mmorpg really needs to be based on an IP such as DC or Marvel. One of the fun things of these type of games is fighting with or against real comic book heroes and villain

    - There are some things about City of Heroes that I simply didn't like. For instance, you never really feel like a super hero in CoH. Oh sure, you have all the moves of a super hero and all the looks, but it's clear that the citizens of paragon city were used to super heroes, and players were more treated as an elite police force than real super heroes. I miss the "secrecy" part of being a super hero in CoH

    - Why resistrict to one? We tons of fantasy mmo's, I dont see why we can't have more Super Hero mmo's.

I can't even answer this poll because the obvious answer is no but following your logic no one should have made another high fantasy mmo after everquest and we had better stop production on Star Gate since we have galaxies too

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
