I think WoW itself is everything that can make a great MMO... Blizzard did very well on this game. But! The community makes it unbearable to play. I have played some other commercial games(Final Fantasy XI, Guild Wars, Everquest2, and Phantasy Star Universe.) aswell as the trial of WoW. And in all the other MMOs, the community was really nice and helpfull, very newb friendly infact. However, when I went into WoW, I needed some help, and people just "WTF, n00b, you sucks"(paraphrased, you dont expect me to quote every response, now do you?) Aswell as the fact that no one was willing to group, which I find is the whole point of MMO's, whats the point of playing by yourself in a game with tons of other people? If it wasnt for the horrible community, i would play this game with a subscription and The Burning Crusade, but alas, you cant change thousands of people for the better who are so stubborn and foolish. And it doesnt matter that some of the community is good, cause if the majority of the people are fools, then I will be seeing alot more bad then good.

I agree, the wow community is horrible..
But as a game, it's still my favorite.
So what i did, whas to just leave all the chat channels, and set a lvl cap filter on who is allowed to whisper me.
I got lots of real-life friends playing and we have a nice time PVPing..
Thats all the community i need
Want to play: Lego Universe
Maybe it's not a bad idea at all to create adult-only servers -- though it does leave Blizzard w/ new due diligences on how they're going to apply restrictions.
thats just plain arrogant. children aren't the problem, people are. being an ass has no age restrictions.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
This is a very old and worn out complaint with the WoW community...
Really no need to give it much attention as everyone's experience is different.
Find a good guild and forget about the community. Yea you might have to go through several before finding the one you blend with but will be worth it.
ignore the ignorant moron community, try different servers or just deal with if you insist.
You don't have to vent here as it has been discussed more than enough.
Just have fun...I do, community or not.
It's not your place, nor your right to tell people what they can and can't post. Besides with the stereotypical shit that get's posted this is nothing by comparison.
Every single post on these forums with rare exceptions is just a rehash of what someone else has said, so I guess they should stop posting as well?
Edit goes here--- The community is why I quit WoW, I played for years on several different RP servers and the community always started out fine, then the RP nazi's moved in, then the anti-rp ass hats moved in. I did however find that turning off the chat channels helped A LOT, but why play a game with so many other people if you're never going to communicate. Finding a good guild does help, that is until they decide they want to be a raid guild and start acting like your boss at work and trying to force you to rearange your life to fit THEIR raid schedules. The "raid guild" mentality is shit and should be beaten with a louisville slugger.
Want a taste of religion? Lick a witch.
WoW's community is getting worse, not better. I remember playing 6 months after release and asking a TON of questions to my friends/guildies/random people. I almost always got nice, informative responses (exception being those asshats that think they are too "leet" to help people). Now, when somebody ask a simple question like "Where is thrall?" or "Where is the best place to level around 40-50" they get so much sarcastic bullshit from the community, who back in the day, was in the exact same position as a new player.
Im not quite sure why it has gotten so bad but it definitely is makes the game worst not better.
I think it may be that people do not enjoy the game world like they use to. People just focus on getting to 70 as fast as possible, getting geared as fast as possible, and thats it.
Every server is its own community, so when people say that some MMO has a bad community what they really mean is that my server for whatever MMO has a bad community.
On my server whenever a newbie question is asked there are some sarcastic remarks(usually nothing offensive) but an honest answer is given within a minute or 2.
The absolute worst community I have ever seen was PSO. The symbol making thing was a very bad idea. PSU was also quite bad, people learned how to get the PC version free so the first month was awful and the subsequent months were not much better(which was in the OPs list of nice and helpful).

Where did I post, "you can't do this here" or "Stop posting things like this"?
I didn't...Obviously you have a different way of perceiving written statements. Post whatever you want. If it's a worn out topic that has been hashed before, it's no real benefit for anyone besides your own vent. And that's fine too, but what does it accomplish?
If you don't like something, make an effort to change the situation OR forget about it.
So responding to YOUR response Kal...re-read my post then read yours, and WHO is really telling people what they Can and Can't do?

But aren't you doing the same thing?
OP vents about WoW's community and here comes a reply about beating a dead horse, we've all seen your type as well.
I feel/felt the same way as you OP, infact, my very first post here was about that very thing.
It's not realm/server/game specific because I've had multiple 70's across different realms and it's just as bad on each of them.
Do what I did OP. End your sub, have no hope for a great community in a great game and wish that in the future the masses shutdown the asshats ingame and forums when they show their ugly faces.
I remember them days and wish for them to return.
"Community" in WoW consists of small groups of ppl.
My guild is my "community" everybody else doesnt matter.
The main challenge of most MMORPG's is not gameplay, its social.
Finding groups of ppl to play with.
Finding friends to help with quests.
Finding a good guild to raid with.
Finding a good preform.
The challenge is social, not learning your class or any other BS, anybody with above 60 IQ can learn to play WoW, the hard part is finding cool ppl to play with.
Roll on Ravenholdt. The majority there are helpful, fun loving, groupers.
Its also a RP/PvP server, which seems to be ideal rule set for the cool people.

Yes and no. I find that typically children have a much higher ratio of idiots-to-competent-players, but removing children from the servers won't help the game at all. We'll still have to deal with the adult idiots, and they'll be just that much more arrogant and stupid because now everyone knows they are "mature."
