New style mmo suite in 1920's period in black and white?

Would be nice to a have mmo in style of roaring twenties in the previous century.

Sandbox style game.

With gangsters those old cars clothed The looks of buildings, but also country side, travel in old planes trains busses cars.

I dont mean a gta style mmo but a good ralistic world suited in 1920's but all in BLACK and WHITE.

What do you think, no fantasy no sci fi, just what happens in that period of time with the oil busines gangsters or whatever in that period was intrested.

Still grafics could be amazing with lightining and shadows and characters very detailed or world, only its all in black and white it could maybe very awesome if done right?

I'd rather see a Victorian era MMO, with the exploration of the Arfrican continent, with nations as your race/faction and classes like, game hunter, scientist, and missionary.

Its nice you want that, but i was asking for a black and white 1920's style game suite in new york chicago and countrysite or paris- london.

And for a sandbox game without classes,lvls.

Not africa and victorian class game, thats totally different style of game make your own topic then:P

If it had the right atomsphere I think it would be great , as long as it did not turn into a gangster gank-fest.Film noir RP , I'd play that - not sure how it would function it terms of gameplay though

Sounds like a great idea... But without colour no game can really flourish. Perhaps black and white and then a bit of red in there for the blood. I see you're trying to create that noir effect, but you need at least some colour in there apart from dull blacks and whites.

Not sure about black & white, but it'd be good to see some kind of gangster MMO - in fact I'm quite surprised there isn't one planned (afaik).

Not in black and white but as a setting that would be interesting if they could provide gameplay with that. Mafia(on the PC) is an interesting title to look at by the way.

No need to be snarky, just saying this could be done in balck and white and it could be a sandbox way easier than a game set in a city.

Not black and white but a muted color pallete perhaps? That might do. It would have to be a gangster/cops type of mmo I imagine.

Well when its period 1920's i want it in that style how it was looking in old movies or pictures of that time.

You can always put some color in it, like entering a bar that have collored lightning or pool table is green.

Or when cars drive by there lights are yellow some areas have some colored glowing effect.

Blood is red maybe sky is blueish.

But with todays grafics it could be a real nice looking game.

Its just idea to have something completly new instead of fantasy with orcs and elfs hehe.

Yeh its like this idea but then in a mmorpg, but the black and white should be more present then in that game it looks bit yellow glow all over the screen.

But a mmo should be much more then only a gangster world, much more ways to play it and explore.

Yeah i would love a Mafia like MMO i am totally hyped about Mafia 2. I don't think black&white would work.

I would completely support this idea Evasiva, maybe not so much the whole black and white view, but I might actually grow to like it (I'm just thinking of the "Untouchables" movie with Kevin Costner which was in color). I think it would be pretty interesting, especially if it's skill based, have a detective that is also a good sniper or good with a rifle versus being good with any other kind of weapon (blunt instruments etc.) Chicago and New York would definetely be THE perfect backdrops for this MMO. Too bad I don't see many developers picking up this idea though... no more originality in games anymore, also, you'd have to consider that this game would be very niche, so the developers wouldn't be getting the kind of money they'd want out of it (lots of it in other words)

I really like this idea too Evasia. And I'm not against the black and white idea either, but realistically I think it would turn quite a few people off.

I hope developers out there are paying attention to this because I'd certainly be interested in playing a game like this.

Not a bad idea... just not sure I want to play a game in that time period. But its a great idea. Maybe if you could do a parallel universe sort of thing like Crimson skies (xbox360) where even though you have 1920 era scenery it still looks nice

Well i choose that period becouse it was a intresting period, and becouse we only have movies or pictures in black and white from that time, it would be nice if game also suited in black and white.

If some brilliant writer can make a game with time travel between periods so some parts are color others are black and white.

But if you want something completly new to mmo scene i think when done right a black and white in that period would be great with sandbox in mind.

Wait.. what? A MMO with a truly unique perspective taken almost into a complete art form and function? Why would the masses want anything to do with something creative let alone something that may cause them to think?

In my opinion if this was done properly it could be simply beautiful, like SEED was. Think of SIN CITY, while not a style for everyone there are people out there who would appreciate.

Well as most know by now many here and also on other forums complaining last few years more and more about meaningless themepark mmo's already out there.

 

So making a topic about this kind of game is only to intrest others and making the mmo market more various in styles of games then have another 1000 themepark mmo's in near future with already thousends of themepark games out there.

There must be enough players out there who realy want something different then mainstream?

I haven't met very many people who didn't love the visual style of Sin City.  And a Noir MMO has the chance to be absolutely spectacular.  I would even go so far as to suggest that Rockstar making L.A. Noire into an MMORPG, one that played somewhat similarly to their GTA games, would stack up nicely against even WoW's numbers.
