WoWhammer

The term WoWhammer is really starting to piss me off. We need to put an end to both its usage and the misconceptions about WAR and WoW.

-Warhammer is an IP which has been around for decades longer than Warcraft. Warcraft was originally meant to be a Warhammer game but things between Blizzard and Games Workshop didn't work out. (not the last time either, see Starcraft)

-Mythic made an MMO before Blizzard did, little game called Dark Age of Camelot. It was the first RvR game, not WoW. Sorry but Midgard, Albion and Hibernia have been feuding in MMO form before the first press-release for WoW and the Horde/Alliance ever came out.

So, WoW not only ripped off Games Workshop when creating the Warcraft IP but also ripped off Mythic's pvp design. If you use the term WoWhammer you're showing how utterly ignorant you are of both the fantasy genre and MMO's.

Haha, I call you just as stupid as you imply other people are for saying it's wrong to say WAR ripped off WOW but WOW sure as hell ripped off Daoc's PvP, hahaha, PvP existed before Daoc you know.

PvP did exist before DAoC but notice how I used the term 'RvR'. And no, I'm not counting Tallos Zek server ruleset on EQ1 as RvR.

I do not mind the term so much. Sure, it shows a bit of ignorance, but at the same time the person is fusing it with the gold standard of MMORPGs, which is not too awful.

Better than Age of Warhammer, that is for sure!

There isn't RvR in WoW as far as I know.

WoW pvp is nothing like DAoC.. implying that shows ignorance.

DAoC was not Mythics first RvR game either. Darkness Falls: The Crusade was, and they built DAoC using much of the code from their Action RPG Spellbinder: The Nexus Conflict.

Man you just don't get it do you? First off, it's not an issue. It's a name for christ sakes. Ignore it. Secondly, World of Warcraft stole nothing. If they did, their would be a lawsuit. Warcraft was meant to be warcraft. People share idea's. It's not uncommon. RvR was not created by Mythic, just perfected to some degree. Basically meaning, they did it better than the other games. If you cry about what term's people use, then you my friend need to take a break from the forums. Wonder how much this would bother you.

TABULAHAMMER!!!!!!! or how about CONANHAMMER!!!!!!! Get the point yet? :( And before you reply and say, "DOOD, they did steal something!". Go browse through the car industry, or how about the movie industry. As stated, it's common to share idea's. Done!

I agree with the sentiment of your entire post, but I have to argue with the claim that RvR was not created by Mythic.

Technically, RvR was created by Mythic.  The term was first introduced by the Mythic PR staff when answering questions about the game during its production.  The "Realms" of Hibernia, Albion, and Midgard were the first of their kind, pitting nations against one another in massive scale PvP combat.

The concept itself is not unique, as large guilds waged massive zergfests as early as Meridian 59 in the mid-nineties, but the "Realm vs. Realm" term and ancestry clearly lie in the possession of Mythic.

With all that said, I come back around to my first sentence.  I agree entirely with the message of your post.  Warhammer hasn't stolen anything that I'm aware of.  Nor has Wow, or DAoC; unless you count the millions of hours of life they have stolen from adoring fans around the world.

Warhammer is nothing like Warcraft except maybe the UI layout. Beyond that its a different game based on the same Class/Level system most commonly found in the genre since EQ.

Warhammer is a new game, and its own game.

Does it really matter which game has the longer history?? No, the fact is this game is WoW with a Warhammer skin/lore added in.  Who wants to play something they have been playing for the last 4 yrs?

And didn't I say that one of the major selling points of this game was trying to convince people that this is not WOW 2.0 ? Yeah there is no rvr in Wow and public quests or even a tome of knowldge but just about everything else in WAR is reminding people of WOW all too much from game design and gameplay. It's not to say WAR will not be successful but how long will it take WAR players to get bored and start looking elsewhere is really what some should be wondering. Still on the fence on wether I am going to give WAR a try or not.

Why don't you play the game before you go around claiming that WAR is nothing like WoW. If you did play WoW at one point in time, from the second you start playing WAR, you already have an excellent idea of what to do in this game and it does feel WoW in a lot of ways. This has nothing to do with the fact that they're "BOTH MMORPGS LOLZ DUH!" or that they're "BOTH FANTASY GAMES WHAT DID YOU EXPECT LOLZ," and the fact that Blizzard's lore is heavily inspired by Games Workshops' lore is irrelevant. Any one that's not delusional will tell you the games are similar in a lot of ways from start to finish. Carbon copy? No, but still a point to make.

Games Workshop likely did not allow Blizzard to use their IP because they wanted to take liberties with it that would make for a better PC game, in the same fashion that GW has put a stranglehold on what Mythic can and can't do with their game.  If anything in Warhammer seems stupid or pointless, you can bet GW is to blame.

GW has no idea what makes a good video game.  Then again, what do you expect from grown men who like to play with dolls ...

All I've learned from this thread is that you people sure do like to split hairs. Either way it sure is entertaining, almost like you're scripting this " radio edit ." Oh no wait, this thread was ripped off of thousands of other threads on these boards, and every reply too. No wonder I had that feeling of deja vu.

Why does everyone want to compare every game to every other game? I know if I were a game designer I would look at everything that works and doesn't work. Of course I'd copy some things from the more popular games and not use some of the less desirable components. I'm personally eagerly awaiting the Warhammer release and have tried a lot of mmorpgs in my time. If it looks a little like WOW or plays a little like DAOC I'm not gonna be disappointed. How many new things can the companies really come up with anyway? I'm perfectly happy with 1 or 2 innovations and good solid gameplay in other areas.

But in reference to the OP, chill dude, let them call it what they want and when we see them online we can harass them about playing lol (hopefully they're on the losing side of the RVR ). Lots of companies use similar ideas from lots of others, no need to bash 'em or get upset over fanbois bashing something you look forward to.
