It seems there is no anti-cheat software incorporated to this MMORPG/FPS. I think the developers should have added PunkBuster, since there is no such ability for admins to spec suspicious players immediately or the use of an automated anti-cheat measure. I know that GMs handle suspicious players through reports, but that's really not enough.
Have to say this is something of a concern I had when I played the trial.
I took part in an allied attack on a town and found myself sneaking through some woodlands on the outskirts of the town trying to find more allied soldiers. As I was lay looking into the town, an axis soldier ran past behind me and dropped to his stomach about 15 feet away on the other edge of the wood to survey the open ground before making his next run (and the fact you have to think like this while playing is one of the things I liked about the game).
Somewhat surprised that he hadn't spotted me, I turned around and calmly shot him twice in the back (yeah I know not very noble, but it's war right!). He then stood up and turned around (at which point I shot him again but could have missed this time) and he one-shot me into oblivion...
Now I may have missed on the third shot, but I put 2 rifle bullets into him and it didn't phase him??
---------------------------- Hundreds of years from now, it will not matter what size my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... But the world may be different because I did something so bafflingly crazy that my ruins become a tourist attraction.

Or you possibly missed?
Or you possibly only wounded him? There have been times when I have been shot a number of times and haven't died.
Did you notice if you had any packet loss at the time?

The reason I mentioned I possibly missed the third time is because I am pretty certain I didn't miss the first two times. As far as I know I wasn't getting any packet loss at the time.
I have also been shot and wounded (in WWII Online I hasten to add, not in RL!) rather than killed and so would generally allow for the possibility. I have missed any number of shots and been sniped by people I didn't even see, and this is all part of the experience The reason the above concerned me was because it seemed so out of place as to make me question what had happened in a way that nothing else had done in the game prior to (or, to be fair, after) that incident.
There could be a perfectly good explanation for it, but when an event like that leaves a player thinking "hang on, thats just not right..." the possibility comes to mind that perhaps the other player *is* doing something rather dodgy.
As the OP implied, punkbuster (or a similar system) would at least allay those suspicions...

Cheating in this game is VERY rare, as a cheater in this game can ruin the entire map unlike in games like wow where the cheater might only affect a few individuals, the developers take them very seriously.
The game has software that analyze the data that you send to the server and edited bytes in memory (this is all I know, it's most probable that it does alot more) and it will auto-ban you instantly if it detects that something doesn't run kosher on your machine.
It's up to par or probbably more advanced than PB I am sure.
Not really, there has been people who've been banned due to both faulty RAM and other hardware related errors that made the game go faster than it should be (which would emulate a speed cheat).. the developers over the years have explained why this happened in some of those posts in the community support forums (and errounous banned got their accounts back).
MMO's seldom use third party cheat detectors but most have it in some form or another, I belive world of warcraft (just as an example) has a simmilar system that also looks at which programs you are running in the background to look for known cheat programs. If wwiiols does I have no idea.
I think that they'd like to keep as much information as they can about how it works secret, so that potential hackers wouldn't as easily find a way around it.
But I really don't know, I only post what I've understood from a stretch of several posts made by developers in the official forums.

How would you know all about their anti-cheat measures? Did they put up a statement somewhere?
