Poll: Will you use voice chat in WAR?

gillvane1gillvane1 Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,503

Will you use voice chat in WAR, like Ventrillo or something?

I've never really used voice chat extensively in an MMO, but I have in FPS games. It might be fun if you find the right group of people.

It's definitely not needed to play, but it will definitely help to excel as a guild.

Will use it and have been using it for the past several months of beta.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.

No organised competitive player versus player game should be played withouth voice chat.

and if you play it without , against the group that uses voice chat , you will most likely lose.

Mythic should have incorporated voice chat , lets hope they will in future.

    Absolutely.

Many moons ago, some guildies got me to use Roger Wilco (is that thing still going?) to talk on and we saw the benefits immediately.

However long it is later, we now use Ventrilo. In fact, I'm on ventrilo right now and we're arguing if we could game without it now.

    I think not

Sorry I still find it amusing that people have some horrific phobia of voice chat software. In a pvp centric game which war is... not having voice coms puts you at a disadvantage.

I type incredibly fast, and by the time I type "Spike damage on me need heals" its too late. Not to mention all the "Tanks in our back field", "Switch target to X", "Kill this over extender", Caster free on the side... etc etc.

Your really hurting your group and yourself by not getting it. Its been a requirement for my guild in pvp events since... Geez... almost AC1 back in 1999.

Voice Chat done poorly, or without a lot of fine tuning can really bog down a game's performance.  It was probably left out for this reason.

Also, in RVR, targets stay alive and the battlefield shifts so quickly that voice comms will just turn into a bunch of people who think they're good at leading others and organizing people screaming to do something that its already too late to do.

It's not eve, no FC'ing primary targets, etc :P  Also, there's no overview to show all the available targets at once.  Find X and smash him won't work too well in a 50 on 50 battle :P

So, what commands does that leave, get healers?  capture the waypoint?  we're going to X?  All of that can be typed, or already understood by anyone serious enough about RVR to use voice comms.

I'm sure people will argue, etc, about their effectiveness.  They'll be effective, no doubt.  Just not nearly necessary, or even as needed as other coordinated PVP efforts in other games.

Ahh so your talking in Zerg situations... well Just because your running with the zerg doesnt mean you cant have a group in voice com.

Once in you have a MA (Main Assist, FC for you EvE palyers) Who calls targets. All dps assists him, if getting assisted back, you call for heavy healing (prehealing done as damage comes in instead of after).

With assisting your MA will be calling targets about ever 5 - 10 seconds. I.E. "On So and So, Switch to bright wizzard, switch to zealot, Pull back tank on healers, push in on shaman" etc etc.

The rest of the people in vent are silent unless something happens. I.E. Healer speakes up when jumped by a stealth class etc.

Voice coms are EXTREMELY important here in all stages of the game as things change so quickly.

Why thank you for the lesson on voice comms. and the terminology used.  A MA system won't work, because once everyone hits the target, it'll die instantly.  Healing in WAR is proactive, not reactive.  By the time you start the heal, its too late if they aren't already stacked.  Healers just need to keep their HOT's rotating and the chances of survival will definitely increase.

Sure, you can do it, and it might help - but at the pace the game moves, and the vast amount of people involved in RVR battles that won't be on your voice comms, its effectiveness will be marginal at best.

I can guess we'll see WAR's own voice program eventually, then it'll change things a bit as everyone can be on the same page.  Until then - who knows.

Nope cant stand voice chat in any MMO......It wasnt until the "I cant live without my cell phone" era that people just can't play without voice chat...To me it completely ruins any immersion I have in the game and makes it feel like I am at work (which is not a good thing)......

I love the people who say "some people will argue" to discredit them before they start..

But the fact remains.. you are flat out wrong.  Voice chat helps IMMENSLY.  Even if you are in different parts of the field.. if you join with your guild and are in guild chat, it's a lot easier to organize, defend, attack, and get reinforments.  That's why we moved to a talky system in war instead of morse code.  If it's just as easy to type out "the germans have us pinned down" .. Ha.. so flawed.

I will be using voice chat.  In organized PvP is a necassary item.  And not just calling targets.  Calling Zerges, locations, who's there.. ETC.. need back/help.  I'm getting chased is hard to type while you are running and healing yourself..

I am, however, glad they didn't include it.  That'd just slow down performance, and you are right, one guy (and some stupid f'n 14 year old) wouldn't stop running their mouths, tell me who to attack, where to go.. ETC.. There is a reason I'm in a guild.  Because I like talking to those people..

It will work if your a group in the zerg. Im not sure how many zergs you have played with, but as a vet of DAOC I can say most Zeglings cant find their ass with 2 hands, a road map, and someone to lovingly shove their head in there for them.

The zerg doesnt assist... a group of six or twelve assisting against idiots who dont makes a huge difference.

As for pre-healing... Im sorry you dont have good experiences with it. If you wait till after the 4 BW's or Sorcs dump on someone to heal, they are going to be dead. If the target notices that he is getting casted down he calls for burst healing and the 2 healers dump into him with what looks like a full bar of health. The dmg comes in AS the heals are landing, thus giving you instantaneous heals as opposed to reactive heals.

Mainly used verse caster groups and tanks who have gotten over extended.

We have plenty of Beta footage that shows our single group more or less standing in front of our zerg (while ours runs away) assisting down their zerglings as they chase, then their zerg after losing 5 - 6 people in less than 30 seconds turns to run, and our zerg stops, casts for a bit as we push, and then follows in behind us. If you think that doesnt have an effect, then I look forward to farming you and yours.

We wont even talk about scenarios...

How does chatting with your friends in a voice progam make you feel like work? Sure its not RP friendly... but there are times for RPing, and there are times for killing people.

MMO's are very social, and some of us have been playing them together for damn near a decade. Talking to my friends never feels like work to me....

I would if in a proper guild enviroment.

That said my guild raided to BT without using voice chat.

So to be totaly honest, I can live without it.

Definitely in a guild environment. Inviting the random teenage denizens of MMO's would lead to painful experience.

If I worked as a guild or a team organized before the battle then yes, otherwise it will probably end up being a (to quote another person) "clusterfuck"; everyone screaming over eachother and no one being really able to tell what anyone says. I picked the option "yes" since I'll probably use the voice chat since I enjoy "clusterfuck" to some extent; and I'll most likely try to join a guild doing PvP too.

I agree. This game is so team based, it should have enabled it in game.  However, i guess if there are costs to save, then I guess you don't spend resources on putting voice chat in your game. Given, the rush to release, this is obvious why they didn't put it in.

If they need more time to develop voice chat. Than they should wait for it and maybe add it in future or expansion.

But there is no question that voice chat (if properly implemented) would make all the difference.

Simply it is needed part for any competitive online game

i have, and will be using vent, even if i did not have a mic i still will use it, just to hear.

  • banthisbanthis Member Posts: 1,891

I'm glad they're not implementing it..I'd rather they leave it up to the guilds & organizations handling it themselves that way only people you WANT to hear from are on the channel.  I found it incredibly annoying in DDO since there's always be atleast 1 jack ass per group or people would accuse you of being bitchy because you swore and forgot to turn your mic off.

My friends and I will probably use voice chat but it'll just be 3 or 4 of us we're more than able to organize ourselves and teammates without it.   People who can't play as a group without someone holding their hand need some serious help.   Teamspeak will be mostly helpful in my opinion for when you have an ambush or your getting flanked and no one realizes it but you.  I usually expect people to know how to play their toons and understand the game's objective on their own.

One of the first things I do when I start up my PC is join Vent. Don't have MSN, can't stand it (IRC is better imo... don't use that either anymore though ;P), no point in typing if you've got Vent - it's just a free phone!
