I dabbled in a few games such as EQ, DAoC, WoW, but the only true MMO which i class as my first due to a long stay was FFXI, still love that game by the way and have since spent a bit more time on the earlier titles i have tried, i guess when i tried them i truly did not understand how the whole MMO thing played out.
FFXI taught me the base mechanics of an Online game and i have not looked back since.
Just to add, I came to LOTRO searching for a more in depth lore, and steady content that supported a main theme. What are some reasons that you play LOTRO?
I've playd LoTRO longer than most becasue it has a well thought out cohesive setting, it's among the first with an end game that a casual player can make real progress in, because new content has been added at such a steady clip (so I rarely get bored), and most importantly because of the craftsmanship exhibited in the storytelling. The Book quests are some of the most fun and cinematic quests I've ever experience in an MMO, and the quality of writing in the quest text in general is exceptional.
These are things that are important to me, though the masses care little for them. The masses think WoWs amateurish writing and nearly insulting setting are just fine after all.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
Well I voted CoH/CoV because at the time before I went to the beta of LOTRO I was playing CoH/V but I left LOTRO 120days ago came back a week ago and the game I was playing during those 120 days was EQ2 and I went back to SWG at the time (guess what SoE! the game still sux ballz!!!!) but I have played other games inbetween LOTRO because LOTRO can burn you out some times if anyone knows what I mean. I was in the beta for requiem as well inbetween LOTRO and I have played other games before LOTRO came out.

I play LOTRO because there is really nothing else out there ATM and not to mention Mines of Moria will be coming out and I have a guild that has been established long before LOTRO and that is were everyone is right now. I played the game since closed beta and played it for about a year prolly more dunno i am not really that great with dates. I then took a three month break and now just recently came back for all the stuff I have missed and to catch up with all the new content.

I played Guild Wars and then FFXI before i went to Lotro. I played Guild Wars for about 2 years and the ni played FFXI for about 3 months. i liked FFXI but because it was like 5 years old when I started playing there wasn't many people in the lowbie areas which meant I couldn't really level up that far into it and i got bored. But saying that the groups I did go in were really fun and I loved the community on FFXI.
Lotro I picked on a kind of not thinking buy not really looking forward to anything. But when i came in i was really surpised how good it was. i fell in love with it when i wondered into the old forest and the atmosphere of it just totally blew me away. I loved the Books and the storyline and the general NPCs text even though people complain I take to much time reading them. But i like to immerse myself.
I quit though because when i got to Level 50 there wasn't much community and the areas were kind of barran. But i am coming back to get ready for Mines of moria.
I played SWG pre-CU, then the CU and left after the NGE. I tried i few other games, but none of them was to my liking. I was lucky to get into BETA of LotrO from day one. When the game launched it was very few bugs and tons of content. After a few months I left becouse of things in RL, but I always comes back.
LotrO is not like SWG pre-CU, but its the only MMO apart from it that i enjoy. Im really looking forward to the new expansion. And im glad im not in danger of getting NGE'd with Turbine at the helm lol.
Hauken Stormchaser I want pre-CU back Station.com : We got your game Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
Unfortunatly, I turned down the idea of LOTRO Beta, after doing it for EQII. I was a bit unhappy with beta, and did not interest myself with it. I kept my eq account active, but no longer played that as well, and finaly, got into the WoW beta. I wish that I took the opportunity for LOTRO, but at least I am considered somewhat of a vet for LOTRO with about a year of playing.
I still play Guild Wars every now and then. It is a fun game, just never anything really new.
Just curious as to what game you played before you came to Lord of the Rings Online, or if this is your first MMO.
Wow was my last before this game but I have found though I got bored with it at a point this is much more to my liking than wow though I still think we could use some more players there.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

EQ2 was my last and I often consider going back for the raids (which are still the best IMHO).
Maybe Ill download the client again today

Eh all of em before LOTRO and would still play all of em other then lotro.
Hard to answer the poll. I played EQ for 3.5 years then City of for 2.5 years and EQ2 for 1.5 years before the time I've put into Lotro.
Thats what i was thinking aswell.
The poll means, what game did you play before Lord of the Rings Online. My first MMO was UO, but as I left WoW to LOTRO, I put down WoW.

Other: Lineage II
I played all of those.

Anarchy Online.
Burned out around level 100 though. Didn't really like the trials I got of the expansions.
I will not vote because the selection for me is not on the poll. I played them all plus some.
