What does everyone want?

ShaddyDaddyShaddyDaddy Member UncommonPosts: 193

Honestly, it confuses me deeply. Its like with every MMO that comes out that everyone expects beethoven's fifth symphony. Its like everyone expects a master piece after the release of beta. With so many wants for a MMO can you really count on ANY dev's to give you what you want? The main stream in its current state is based off of WoW. That is the current norm. The few old timers that scream, "Oh jesus me it used to be so different. Players were open to do what they wanted to...". I think it is funny. Society and the consumer judges what is popular and what is not. There is nothing we as a left wing "gamer" can do about it. Trust me. I am waiting for the next big "Sand Box". That one game that gives me the option to do what I want. Instead of bitching about the current state of games my fellow old timers, lets sit back and enjoy the ride. Let's watch and enjoy the fact that MMO's are going a different route from what we are used to. Lets see where the future leads us in gaming and enjoy the fact that the evolution in gaming ( to a certain extent) is taking us in directions we would have never thought of. Lets just sit back and enjoy the ride. Weither we play the games that are coming out and enjoy them or go down in a flame of glory with them, let's not forget that at the end of the day we are ALL gamer's.

    1. An interesting online world.

    2. Fun quests and lots of them.

    3. Good looking graphics.

    4. Decent classes and races.

Lets face facts brother. You just gave a broad.... I dare say a VERY broad spectrum of elements to a game you want. How do you want the quest to be fun? What sort of graphics are we talking about? Strong enough that most computers can't handle it or mediocre at best? What sort of classes and races? Do you want them to be original or based off of the norm? What sort of story do you want with your game? SCI FI or Fantasy? You give such broad request that I get the feeling you don't even know what you want.

I want a game that has all the four points that I mentioned.

Good looking graphics = as Lineage 2 or better.

     Well shit,

You have your pick 75% of MMOs then.  An interesting game world is relative though.

You have something to add to the thread besides nagging at me?

I want a sandbox type game where I can be creative and do my own thing, not follow a script. I want a game where high level characters aren't superhuman and treat lower level people like they don't deserve to even play the game. I want a game where what I do matters. Where the game world changes.

    Games played:

    Runescape -------------- www.runescape.com
Magic of the Gods ------ www.magicofthegods.com
    Saga of Ryzom ---------- www.ryzom.com
    World of Warcraft ------- www.worldofwarcraft.com

Short answer: A fun game to enjoy with others (wow).

TBH EvE has exactly what i want in a game

    -Great pvp

    -Real consequenses

    -Player run economy

    -Vast (albeit dull) world lol

    -Good clan/corp system

    -Free expansions

    -Devs that constantly implement events

    -Great Graphics

-The ability to do as i please

-Meaningless quests (im sorry but lets face it, until someone makes a different quests system and not the same ol kill 10 rats crap i refuse to bother with quests/missions in any game) therefore i dont have to give a damn about doing them.

    -Conquerable territory

-Skill system - Im a full time student and have a part-time job so i dont have the time to sit 8 hours on a pc to grind away lvls. With their skill system i can simply log in for 1-3 hrs and kill stuff and chill with friends and  still feel accomplished. Before the troll army come rolling ill respond for the 45968470 time that skills cap at 5 and the diff between lvs is minor to say the least hence 5 yrs vets dont really pwn all, as a rookie in a rupture cruiser i beat a few 2-3 year vets in their cruisers too. Tactics/fittings matter more than SP.

-Tactics/Strategy means more than overall skillpoints

-Rookies can be useful from day one (yes they can i trained my corp rookies to pvp w me and they rock)

P.S. Not a game for everyone nor would i try to convince anyone otherwise but this is what i want in a game and such game exists (at least for me). However it would be nice to see a ground-based fantasy/sci-fi game like it.

    Burger, fries and large coke......

Ok bad joke But I hazard to say that a vast majority of MMO gamers don't really know nor can express what they want. This is like art. I don't know art but I know what I like.

I don't know what would make me happy in an MMO, but I will when I play it.

For example some may say they dont want a game with grinding so they play MMO X becasue they feel there is so little grinding. They next player says "MMO X is nothing but a grind fest!!"

So in the end there is no real answer to your question.

""But Coyote, you could learn! You only prefer keyboard and mouse because that's all you've ever known!" You might say right before you hug a rainforest and walk in sandals to your drum circle where you're trying to raise group consciousness of ladybugs or whatever it is you dirty goddamn hippies do when you're not busy smoking pot and smelling bad."

    1. Fantasy game
    2. Traditional races , dark elf, high elf, dwarf , human ect . . no orcs =p
    3. No gender restricted classes or races.
    4. No more questing at all to level.(long quests for rare items is ok) Questing for levels is keeping people from grouping. Questing is very difficult to find many players all doing the same quests and even harder to find replacements when someone leaves. Grinding may seem like a pain but atleast it promotes grouping and helps build a strong community. All the games lately are quest based and the only community seems to be within your own guild. In the older games i would have as many friends outside of guild as i did in or more. Because you would meet them through grouping. Universal chat channels dont seem to help communities anymore. The immature players and spammers pretty much take them over to the point where you shut them off.
    5. RvR or team pvp with level limits. Call it carebear if ya like but i notice the high level people who camp lower levels are usually the same people who then complain about server population being too low. If new players joining feel they have no chance, your population is never going to go up.
    6. Non-player base economy. Players just exploit a player based economy to the point where new players coming in can't afford to buy anything.
    7. Game that is based on it's own lore and not from some book or movie. So when you wanna make a change you can just write it in. A few games out there are really being handcuffed because players want things in the game that just aren't in the lore the games are based on.
    8. Raid gear that isn't so highly superior that people who can't raid feel too underpowered to even compete. Yes i know it has to be better but you wanna keep casual players in your game. Giving raid gear with only slightly higher stats and just the best graphics would still keep raiders happy i think.
    9. Graphics dont have to be great so long as they are somewhat realistic and your character doesn't look like he just fell out of a bugs bunny cartoon.

    1. Group PvP. PvE is balanced around PvP.

    2. Less small quests, more epic quests that take hours to complete. There could be stages in the quests, but I don't want a million quests in my quest log. I hate the "Go kill 5 boars" type quests. I want to feel like what I'm doing is something important. These quests would also require group work. It doesn't have to be a ton of people, but 4-5 people groups to take on an objective.

    3. Dungeons that are more than just tank and spank. I want puzzles, traps, more dynamic bosses and mobs. I want the dungeons to have that feel that you could do them over and over and not ever get bored (sort of like Deadmines in WoW).

    4. I want lots of types of PvP. I want to be able to conquer entire kingdoms with my guild. I want to be able to siege keeps. I want an area for FFA PvP. I want the PvP to affect the game world. If I take a city in the game, I don't just want the npcs to respawn. I want to claim the town and all the quest givers/vendors/npcs are no longer availible to the original owners. They have to take it back from me. I want 1 on 1 arenas where you can wager gear/items, or just do it for fun (Like in Runescape).

    5. I want raids, but the kind that don't require you to sell your soul to do them.

    6. Crafting isn't a biggy for me, but I want it to be worth while.

    7. I want the art style to be breathe taking. It could be WoW-like, but I want to enter the game and just marvel at it.

    8. I want the game to give RPers a whole lot of stuff to work with.

    9. I want it to feel the danger.

    10. I want there to be death penalties, but not the kind that will totally destroy all the fun.

    11. I want the combat system to be easy to learn, but hard to master.

A game to have fun for a few years.

For example I played UO for 8 years and I still would play it, I just dislike what EA did to the game.

I still look for a game with crafting, housing, collision detection and where you can put things on the ground and some more features.

I want the fun of a single player game and the MMO community.

Fuck MMO gameplay, it sucks =D.

    lol, I'm not joking.

=D, I like them, I've been playing them for years, but I just think the gamplay needs serious work.

Grinding is not gameplay in my eyes. And every new MMO I play seems to have grinding in it or "collect 10 of this", or "kill 10 of that".

    =/

I can list exactly what I want in a game:

    1) Large open world (No instances)

    2) Sci-Fi

    3) Ground and Space activities/combat

    4) Skill based system (no levels or classes)

    5) Player houses and cities

    6) Player driven economy

    7) Crafter based economy(Crafted items are the best, not loot items)

    8) Good PvP system

    9) No forced questing

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

This and I fixed it for you.

Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.
