Ye imo i don't think celebs have time to kill on mmo's or else they will be no Celebs for long lol
Video games are perfect for celebs because many often travel and are looking for remote entertainment. MMORPG's are great because there's no console, no disks to tote around after install, and available wherever Wi-Fi exists.
I think this is a way for celebs to be like the average person and mingle with them without everyone trying to look at them like some sort of freak, that they are.
I know if i was a celebs this whole public eye thing would annoy the crap out of me.
this way they can mingle with the masses without the annoyances that comes with being a famous person.
Apparently there are a few famous/celeb people who play City of Heroes though i do not know if it's true or who they are. Usually a few in Second Life too but wouldn't really call that a game, i hear musicians frequent it doing performances.
There are a few models (web/glamour) who play WoW and i'm sure you are all able to do a search
"Many celebrities have confessed to have played World of Warcraft: Felicia Day (Buffy the Vampire), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Dave Chapelle (Comedy Central) and others. This time around Steven Spielberg answers PopSci during an interview that he has played World of Warcraft." - http://blizzplanet.com/news/2372/
Come to think of it, I've probably unknowingly reported Dave for swearing in General Chat...not sure.

"The Guild is an award-winning online sitcom about the lives of an online guild "The Knights of Good", with each webisode 3-6 minutes long.
The series is purposely kept generic to avoid copyright problems and to appeal to a wider audience of MMORPG fans. The first episode was posted July 27, 2007. It is broadcast on The Guild's personal website, on iTunes as a podcast, effinfunny.com and YouTube. The show follows the life of Codex, the healer of The Knights of Good, who attempts to lead a normal life after one of her guildmates shows up on her doorstep. The Guild is written by Felicia Day, directed by Jane Selle Morgan and Greg Bensen, and produced by Jane Selle Morgan and Kim Evey." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Guild_(web_series)

He used to play EQ also from what I have heard.....
This is very true. Although I can't remember the server he was on, at one time in 2001 Allahkazam's had an interview with Curt about his Monk character, Scythehands Voxslayer.
Curt Schilling was also involved with EQ2, as a matter of fact at one time he was an actual NPC on the starter island and the quests he gave were tied to some real-life charity, in that for each one that was completed a donation was made to that charity.

Again true, although in the interview he gave Mr. Salvatore never revealed his character's name (or if it was a Dark Elf as many suspected).
There was also a Formula One race car driver that was interviewed about his time in Norrath, but I can't remember which one it was...

Curt Shilling played a monk on Povar as did a number of later in time high profile players (all by coincidence as far as I can tell). My friends and I actually played with him a few times, before we or anyone knew who he was. His name was actually Scythehands Razorfists and I think he was in an all monk guild at the time called Chi Gung masters of povar. It might have changed to voxslayer later on though, I don't know.
We very often used to suggest scythehands as a great name for children when someone announced they were pregnant or talked about children and laugh. It was even funnier when we actually learned who he was.
Other Povar names included
Baelish of casters realm
Allakhazam of well allakhazam website
Morguard of mobhunter/eq2 dev type person.
RA salvatore
Cylus of Sigil (silas, not the current silius)
There were more, but I just can't remeber them right now.

I could totally see this. EVE has an intellectual appeal to many facets of the game and he strikes me as a strong thinker.
