first of id like to state that im a pretty patient level headed person. I'm not some guy that expects things to bend to his will or people to jump when i say jump. i work in retail, though not at a game stop; i happen to work at a video store and i am also in the customer service line of work.
Theres a lot of people angry about the warhammer collectors edition of their pre order that went in retail and didnt even receive a code. a lot of people ( some that even work in other game stops) saw people just giving out codes to their friends etc. you can google all that if ya really care but ill just tell my story ( if you read this far you apparently are bored or are pretending to have some sort of interest)
Back in April of 08 i go into the local game stop and order my collectors edition of warhammer online, easy enough. i dont receive any sort of code at the moment and i just figure they will phone me up with it or i can go get it at a later date. months months months later i see the open beta for all that preorder and the collectors edition people get to get into closed beta. at this point im just kind of wondering why i wasnt invited and hell, i dont have any kind of CD key to put in.
i stumble into the game stop around august and i just say " hey, i pre ordered the collectors edition and im just wondering wheres my code" the guy behind the counter replies " oh were all out.." so i have him look up my receipt. he sees i order up and now magically theres a box back there for people that pre order. im happy enough i just brush it off as a honest mistake. i go home and open the box and just read " thank you for per ordering the fucking game ( not Collectors) here's some cd keys for your open beta, get lost loser."
im kind of curious at this point because the cd key didnt have anything to do with the collectors edition so i phone them up. i go round and round until i have to talk to a manager that tells me " nah man im in the same boat as you, this is all we got" so i figure maybe ill be able to play.
a week or so passes by and i notice my friends getting their cd keys for the head start and i still havent. i phone up gamestop again asking them about my cd key, same story with a little twist. this time the guy is telling me maybe i can pick up my CE of the game today so i ask " oh like age of conan?" the guy replies " exactly."
so i wait until today and i give them a call around 1:00 pm. i know shipment doesnt come on sundays so maybe they were just holding it behind the counter. the guy who i talk to today tells me " nah man, im not seeing anything back here to do with warhammer.." so i just thank him for his time and get off the phone.
basically a completely easy task has turned into a labyrinth of lies and disbelief and spinning of words. im easy to trust people and like i said i work behind a counter as well but enough is enough. ive seen a lot of people that have had the same results or close to just because some guy workin at gamestop wanted to get his G-unit mac on some underage girl or he was feeling generous and decided to give out a bunch of codes.
I didnt make this topic for me alone to rant and for you people to make fun of it or not care. i wanted to see if anyone else had a close scenario and was willing to share their story. i figure the more people we can get talking about gamestops general shitty service they might get people who are capable of taking money, and giving you what you paid for.
whats happened to the rest of you? love to hear it.

I avoid Gamestop like the plague. I am honestly ashamed to be seen in one. When I bought the giant Rockband full-kit I had to arrive before they opened so I could duck in and out real quick. I am not ashamed to be a gamer, but the kind of people my age who frequent that place do make me ashamed to be seen near one. You know, the dorks that Pre-Order every damn game months or years in advance then whine when they miss out on getting to play a few days early....
Dorks like the OP.....
Ha, Just kidding.
But seriously, I wasn't.
It is a shame that all of the stores aren't staffed with good people like the one near me. The store in my area has a really good staff, they are informed and don't let you get ripped off. Everytime I go in there I wind up saving money, they never let me buy something new that I could save quite a bit of money buying used. If I ask them about new games comming out, they are honest and tell me they are not going to reccomend anything until they have played it themselves. Even when i forget my Gamestop card they swipe someone elses so I can still receive the discount. Not all stores have staff like you described, There are a few out there you just have to be lucky enough to find one that is helpful. I know what you mean though about some of the staff at other stores, I have been to a few others that were horrible, I think it has everything to do with management. If you have a good manager, you will have a good staff. The Gamestop near me luckily knows how to treat their patrons. I don;t even have to call them to check on things, they call me and let me know if what I was looking for came in and they set it aside for me... but then again they might just like calling me because I am a girl hahaha!
damn Gamestop sucks bad espcially if its a small one in a little neighboorhood. I pre-ordered mine and the guy was saying i can get the codes because i made it very clear before i pre-ordered it that i wanted codes before the game started because i could care less about open beta but early-start thats a differant story. Well he promised me up and down he could get a code well i freakin call them last week and say hey wheres the code? there like well we havent recieved any and proceed to tell me to call every gamestop in the area for a code so i can do there job for them. Needless to say im very upset so i message Mythic trying to get the codes and they say goto gamestop well gamestop doesnt have any codes so im coming to you. Its retarded and i personally believe that you should have to contact the game makers for your codes after pre-ordering now because then i dont need a incompetant middle man.
My thoughts go to that your a female so they already know you by name and by face upon entry to the story =P just kidding but not really. females get better service then males its a fact. Who want to help a nerdy guy when you can help a girl. But then again you just might be part of the lucky few who have a honest gamestop staff.
Dude I'm still waiting for my pre-order of Duke Nuken Forever and Darkfall. I've been waiting years!
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
Girls like you walk into the store and they are tripping over themselves to help you instead of me. I get left standing there while it takes the entire staff just to to help one girl. YEA I see how that works.
To the OP, no offense but you really need to keep up with things and not expect people to know everything that's going on with every game that comes through their store.
I went and preordered my CE and was not given a code at that time. The next day I realized I hadn't gotten them, called up and came in to get mine. This is something you should've done... there were posts and people talking about getting their codes right when they pre-ordered everywhere online. But instead you waited months... why weren't you calling back and figuring out where the codes were? Instead you waited and then blamed it on people who obviously didn't know how the CE/SE beta codes worked.
Next time, you need to make sure you know your store's manager and talk with them about your game. I lucked out and the Gamestop I frequent has a manager who plays MMOs, but even if they don't know much about MMOs, just talking to them puts the game on their radar and, contrary to some of the posts made, you don't have to be a girl to get remembered. All I did was about every month from the time I pre-ordered WAR, I went into the gamestop, spoke with the manager a little, checked up to make sure there wasn't anything new out on WAR, etc.
So while yes, what happened to you shouldn't have, but you could've done a lot of things to keep it from happening.
Ugh not another one .. Could you please remove that? It's not like I go to Gamestop dressed in my Halloween costume. I do not go shopping dressed that way, nor do I dress that way all of the time. LOL. Though I think the guys at my store give good service to anyone, not just girls they seem to be staffed well, with people who genuinely enjoy games and want to help you.
No, but you are from Texas. You probably walk into Gamestop packing a 357 Magnum....no wonder you get such good service.
Maybe the OP should try that, bet he gets an access code real fast.
Pffh everyone in Texas carries guns on them, so why would anyone care about one little ol' gun?
Oh and all Texans are hicks. And talk funny. (Okay so maybe the last one isn't as sarcastic as the last two...)
Nope.. A glock 40, 15 round clip with hollow points, laser grip It is the perfect "girl" gun. But I generally do not take it shopping with me.. what do you take me for.... a barbarian? lol

You do realize that you can get better service and bargains when you take it with you shopping, don't you?
And don't tell me you prefer to play a MMORPG in which you can be one of those cutey pie elves, rather than a barbarian......
I thought it was the consumers responsibility to make sure they get what they paid for? Or am I wrong? I never had an issue with Gamestop. If a game I pre ordered never arrived by the date it was intended to show up on, I would call them and demand that I get a partial refund or store credit towards another purchase. Usually it was $5 bucks but I took charge as a consumer and made sure I got the product that was paid for when it was suppose to arrive, if not I did what I could. You can either take the money back and forget the order, or wait.
In other words OP make sure your in control of what you purchase. Also what type of grammar do you have. I never spoken about someones grammer before or how they typed on a forum but man thats a weird setup you use, no offense.
Who let you in the VIP section?
LOL! I have never been an elf.. I really don't like games with classes .. but to each their own. Honestly I do not even think the elves are "cute" but hey whatever floats your boat. I am content with games that have one class" humans" . I do like a wide variety of different types of combat skills, I would truely love a game where I can kill my oppenent in every way possible at any time I want in many different areas. Is that barbaric? hahahah! I already get great service most of the time.. no need to use a gun for that!
There was on gamestop in Frisco(Dallas area) that had a great staff. For 4 years I didn't go anywhere else but there. Then the manager I knew and who could get me stuff that was normally sold out was transfered then the rest of the good staff left. Haven't been to a good gamestop since. They may know consoles but I too did not get CE codes. I pre-ordered at amazon first then thought wth why not get a 2nd to sell. So I get a 2nd at the gamestop near me, I go in and cancel my pre-order change it to FO3 on the 3rd of sept. Never was told about codes. This monday I was called and told that my CE would be coming in soon...........
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms
