US Grace period ends tomorrow 7AM?

Greetings!

We know that you are glued to your keyboard, with your IV of [insert fizzy beverage here] flowing happily as you hack, slash, and blast your way through the first tiers of WAR. This announcement is to let everyone know that if you haven’t yet entered your CD key into the account center, you must do so by tomorrow (Friday) morning at 7:00 AM. If you do not enter your information into the Account Center by the deadline your characters will not be affected, you will just be unable to login until your product key is entered.

If you pre-ordered online and have not yet received confirmation that your order has shipped we encourage you to contact your retailers customer support to ensure you receive your game on-time.

Think of it as a good time to stand up, have a stretch, and go out to greet that bright, giant, hot thing in the sky. Don’t forget your shades!

    Wierd...

It was suppose to have  a grace period until the 22nd.  Odd of them to change it especially if you ordered from Amazon or somewhere with standard shipping, it sure the hell ain't getting to your house tomorrow.

    Gonna be some unhappy campers.

    "Folks,

First of all this wasn't an easy decision and not one that we made in order to screw over our customers. So, here are some salient points:

    1) As part of EA, we know the exact situation with the EA store and the fact that a small percentage of our customers from Canada (and other places) have to wait longer for their boxes than anybody would have liked. Because of this, we extended the grace period for them as we have an accurate record of the number of people who were put at a disadvantage because of geographic issues or EA store issues.

    2) When it comes to other retailers, we have no way of knowing whether somebody who got a pre-order code actually bought the CE or SE. As everybody who has been following this story knows, store employees gave out codes to people who didn't deserve them. This is a fact and because of it, we have had to give out thousands and thousands of codes to make up for the codes that were "accidentally" given out. If we extended the codes for weeks, we have no doubt that many people would continue to take advantage of the codes that they had no right to possess.

    3) The retailers, even though some of their employees caused some of the problem, are very concerned about the grace period.

    4) The number of people who are affected by this is very small. While the small numbers itself does not mean we should ignore the concerns of our customers, the fact is that the vast majority of people who pre-ordered the CE and the SE are going to get it on time. We know that many of the retailers made an extra effort to get the orders in the stores on day one. Even some of the retailers who normally get their product later had them today. I'm also watching the number of new accounts and Peak Concurrent Players climb rapidly so I know that people who already registered their pre-order codes are now playing the game.

    5) We announced our launch date of September 18th, in plenty of time for the cast majority of people (especially SE people) to cancel their SE order and re-order it if they needed to change the shipping information/choice to ensure that they got the game on launch day or launch +1. Again, we know that the vast majority have already done so.

    6) GOA is extending their grace period for a variety of reasons, including the issues they had with their Beta and Head Start but also some more pronounced issues with overseas retailers that we don't have here.

    7) We are not doing this to be greedy. We don't make any more money no matter when a customer registers their game, that makes no sense. However, we also don't want to offer more free time to people who had no right to be playing the game but got their pre-order codes anyway and we know for a fact that a decent number of people pre-ordered the CE/SE and then canceled their orders after they got the pre-order codes just so they could play the game for free. And from what I've seen from the reports, the number of people who will not be able to play the game due to a retailer screw-up or even delay in shipping is smaller than the combined number of people who got codes they weren't entitled to + people who got the codes and then canceled their orders.

So, I'm sorry that for a very small number of users might have a short delay in their play. I'm looking into something we can do for the people who truly were disadvantaged by this decision and not by people who simply want to play the game for free for a while longer and who have no intention of buying it. The Grace Period is not a free trial of the game and was never intended to be that.

Well, it's EA/Mythic's game - they make the decisions and they reap the rewards (or the repercussions).  Personally, I don't think this is a good business move but whatever...

Mine is coming tomorrow from Amazon. I know the UPS dude usually gets here pretty late (600-630pm or so), but for whatever reason, it is coming FedEx (usually get  all my stuff from Amazon through UPS) and I can't recall when the FedEx dude gets here. I think it's earlier than 6-630pm, but it definitely won't be at 7am.

But, no biggie. I'm not gonna be home anyways, and I could wait a few hours.

  • Yeah, that's a nice way to reward those of us who ponied up the money early.

So let me get this straight ...

even IF Gamestop had sent me the proper code or even IF Mythic had responded to my complaints, I would be cutoff tomorrow, because my order still hasn't arrived from Gamestop (despite them providing a tracking number that shows the order has not shipped).

Worst part is, unless Gamestop actually has extra CEs, they won't be able to reship (as they said they would). And, if I wanted SE, I would have just bought it tonight (only $47.99 at Target). Yet, I'll have paid for CE and have had an outstanding order since April. I paid for CE for the various bonus codes and ... GRRRRR!!!!

Are you guys serious?  Waiting a few days isnt going to kill you.  This really isnt a big deal, although im sure there are poeple out there who are near a nervous breakdown over this. You know people who will die a bit inside if they are not the first goup of people who reach endgame, and think it will somehow ruin the game for them. Really, wait a few days or a week, its not going to kill you and after a month of playing it wont even matter.

But im sure this will turn into a minor sht storm with countless flame threads, players love to hate the people who bring them the games they play.

  • I don't mind, I can think of other things to do until my box gets here, I ordered from Amazon too so it's no big deal because I knew there would be a delay. Either way when I get it I still get my 30 days and I'm definitely subscribing because I like their game. As far as the VN boards I stopped going there long ago, they make this website look like a 5 star hotel as far as trolling, flaming and intelligence is concerned.

It has nothing to do with reaching endgame first. I have the most free time on the weekends and now I can't play till next wednesday. This is total bullshit on mythics part nd if its EA then Bioware is crewed as this stuff will come up with their mmo. Their FAQ even says they will give a reasonable amount of time.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

Damnit. I was hoping the grace period would be a little longer, my copy's only coming on the 25th.

When I release a game, I will charge you $80 for the CE of it, promising all the goodies associated with. Than, I will promise you launch delivery. Than, on launch day, I will say I shipped the game, via Media Mail. In reality, the game will still be inside the shipping bay. Weeks after launch, you will get your game. I will have over $90 over your money.

Seriously, why pay $90, when you don't get what the package benefits, and for half that price you can pay for what you will ultimately get (because you never got any of the extras)?

I think this is really lame.  Amazon sold a crap load of copies and unless users selected rushed or overnight delivery they are going to get locked out for the weekend.  It seems most retailers shipped today or yesterday and default or even one step up shipping methods still won't arrive until Monday because fedex and ups don't deliver on Sat without a fee.

Extremely lame call.  It would be acceptable if they announced it prior to launch, prior to selecting pre-order locations, and prior to the shipping date of online orders, but to wait until 99% of the retailers have shipped and knowing that unless you chose a priority delivery they would be locked out for the weekend is absurd.  I will be able to play, but I have a ton of friends who will be locked out this weekend.  No matter how smooth a launch is technically this kind of thing is what gets under my skin.  I could care less about bugs, queues, etc, but doing something like this to customers is not cool at all.

I am sure many people are like my friends and I.  We had planned a lan party this weekend for over a month.  Got permission slips from wives, cleared schedules, and ordered a massive amount of food.  Now over half of us will be locked out.  It looks like we will have to find something else to play.
