Although OP's logic is right in THEORY, look at Eve:

Completely flawed *1 , people complain, nothing gets done, and it's still standing.

*1 - as if lag wasn't enough, i have sent proof a guy bought 2bil isk on some farmers site, GM replied, he's still playing. "awesome" GMing.

    OP is way off.

I've played pretty much every MMO on the list of "Released Games" that have a forum on this site, plus just about any single player PC game that involved strategy or roleplay since the late 1980s.

I am kind of savvy on games, I tend to be critical and skeptical.

AOC was a disaster out of the box. Perhaps, it was marred by the fact that the developers mistakenly believed that the only RP could be done on a PVP server and refused to give us an official RP server unless we wanted to be ganked.

Perhaps it was that it had so much potential and still does, to be a good game.

Same with LOTRO, here is another great game that comes SO close, yet fails to appeal to me.

Why not let us be the bad guy?

    "Okay here is monster time"

No, really, I want to roleplay an evil bad-ass, can I?

    nope. Only good guys.

    Please?

    nope.

Warhammer succeeds because it says "Yep"

In fact, it's missing that Knight of the Empire thing, but everyone is sure it will be added, then I think pretty much most of the types of characters I want to play will be present. A cool minstrel maybe, but I like these classes.

The day of World of Warcraft's release in the states I was skeptical.

    Impressed, but skeptical.

I have the same feeling about Warhammer, except less skeptical.

    Thats no accident.

    Thats no wishful thinking.

This is a deep game that has finally catered to my interests.

All I can do is be gleeful and say, that I am looking forward to the many expansions and I'd gladly pay 200 bucks for a lifetime sub like I did LOTRO (which I am probably never playing again).

Am I fanboi because I can recognize a great game?

I don't think so, you do, so we'll split the difference.

I am just a Fan. How is that?

I agree with the OPs forum title in that the WAR players who enjoy WAR outnumber the people who "tried it and hated it".  In that instance the War fanboys are in force.  Every time I've read a thread about why someone didn't like WAR essentially it didn't come down to anything more than someone saying "It's not what I like in a game".  There are tons of "reasons" and "explainations", but the essential truth is that they don't like what WAR is.  They wanted or expected something WAR is not.

To the game designers who might be reading this, good news, there is a disenchanted player base that has a ton of ideas about the perfect game.  Unfortunately, they all pretty much have a singular idea of what their perfect game is, so no one product will statisfy more than a relative handful of them.  The rest of us understand that if you make a game that works and has fun gameplay, then we will be there playing it, having a good time, and even paying for the privilege.  If that makes me a fanboy, then so be it.  I'm a fan of the product because I'm having fun with it.

Now your statement to the effect that people will eventually stop playing, well that's an "astute" observation of human nature.  However, you certainly haven't said anything more beyond what most people were already well aware.  How many people here are still playing "candy land", "monopoly" or "life" on a regular basis?  New entertainment does have value, and you seem to be discounting that fact.  Most people get bored doing the same thing for years, many people change their hobbies and entertainment choices over time.  It takes an obsessive compulsive personality type to keep doing something that bores them or that they hate for years because they just can't help themselves.  However, since you are not talking about WAR as a good or bad product, but just stating a generally known fact of human nature, I don't see how it is relevant to fanboys in general or this forum in specific.

    I hope this helps.

I really cant understand the psychology of the "fanboys"....

Fantasy games are popular.  The sales of such games shows this and that is why we will continue to see the same fantasy games with a different skin.

Until a developer breaks the mainstream and shows that a steampunk, scifi, or even perhaps a western influenced MMO can be successful we will be stuck with what we have.

Im sorry, cant agree on this one, do you know how many Fantasy genre novels, and authors are present in the world literature, as a potential source to develop something nice and UNIQUE -a truly  unique fantasy world which doesnt use the same stereotype (yeah the orcs and elves..) as the other RPG games...

To involve, a lore, a storyline,an epic adventure, new to the potential customers...

Besides ,such a project will have double benefit, playing the game will be enjoyable for the playerbase, but also reading the literature will be in raise cause people will want to involve more in the core of the storyline, presented in the MMO...

With today gaming industry its the following "Ok, they enjoy chocolate donnuts, lets give them more of the same , just freshly baken"...

Thats WoW, and thats WaR, and thats LoTRO

However much I have to agree with you, CEOs do not.  The Blizzard effect is in place now and all the big wigs see are dollar signs.  Again, if we have a small developer that wants to take a chance and create something different it would be great, but I don't see any massive changes in the future.

The reason the gaming community does this is the same reason that Hollywood continues to do it....it works.  Sadly if you really think hard about it there haven't been that many Hollywood movies that truely broke the mold as far as story/plot that fared well financially.  It's the same thing, take an old concept, wrap it in a new wrapper and see if people will open it.

I salivate at the thought of an original and fun game to play.  But there is nothing in the pipelines that even sounds remotely interesting.  All I can hope for is that WAR tides me over for a few months and I can go back to other games and continue the cycle all over again.

With CCP joining White Wolf I can only hope that they will try and make a Vampire vs Werewolf type MMO.  White Wolf has the Lore that they need..

Yeah theres such a large portion of the mmo community (in total) who wait for their own little version of christmas (or w/e holiday where you get super pumped up)...the day an mmo fails.

Its like the best thing in the world for some reason when an mmo fails to these people, i really cant understand it.  It seems that winth AoC dissapointing so many, it has rallied the wow trolls and given those who still like AoC a feeling that other games must fail.

Its really quite pathetic when you have to judge if a game is good or not based on if there are 10k negatave posts (a great game) 100k negative posts (average) or 1m+ negative posts (bad game)

Its really starting to turn me off completely to these types of forums.

I agree that the game is new, and everyone likes a new game.  But it DOES feel diffrent than all the rest of the mmo's ive played that had the new feeling followed by me realizing the game sucked.

I really think that the mmo community needs to pull its head out of their respective games ass and realize that the more good games that survive means that there will be better quality games, better support, lower subscription fees and overall a better gaming experience.

Theres a good reason why wow players have see one new class and little new material aside from a few more levels to grind in the last 4 years...does anyone else see what im talking about with this?

It seems that if its not their current game, and its not 100% flawless and absolutly perfict in anyway, they troll and wish for its death, leading to what you got now in wow....little expansions, inflated subscriptions, and an overall attitude, that "you dont have to like it, its the best so deal with it"

Personally i hope AoC gets rolling like anarchy online did after its failed launch, i hope that Darkfall turns out to be a great skill based sandbox, and i hope aion turns out to be a good aisan mmo. If they all succeed then we all benefit, you get it?

Now ill go back to having the most fun i have ever had in an mmo period, and play warhammer for a bit. So have fun trying to convice people to hate a game youve never played and why not find a game that you have fun playing, instead of hanging out in the forums hating everything that comes out.

And if under the wrapper there is something they have to assemble or figure out, they toss it aside. They want a toy with the batteries already in it and everything put together.

I think that the mmo community needs to stop being bitter about another games precieved success and start having fun.

Its like someone getting into a fight in the early 90's over whether sonic or mario is best...its just gay.  Sure there are crappy games, there are more games that offer a short term fun factor over a long term fun factor.

I think people want their holy grail game, a absolutly perfict mmo that is sandbox and linear, fantasy and scifi, skill based and level based, free to play and pay to play....and just about ever other contridictive arrangment of qualities. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Play a game to have fun with it, why does everyone need 5 years of gameplay out of an mmo to consider it a good mmo?

Its really all about the whiny kids ages 12-16.  We can thank wow for bringing them to the market.  If anyone is old enough to remember the days of AC/EQ/DAoC youll know what im talking about, it was a gaming community that liked to have fun and be challanged, not a community that demanded perfection and demanded that every individuals description of the best game be met or it sucks.

you won't be talking about them on an official war forum...

because technical support, ease of checking out all the guilds on all servers/factions, convenient spot to host player-created guides, one-stop-shopping for dev posts -- none of this matters to ea-mythic and jacobs.

hiding like skeered cowardly little babies is far far more important.  must by why EA's other games (daoc, UO, earth-n-beyond)  are doing so well.

p.s. hey jacobs, great job of fixing it to where i don't have to scroll down and click on accepting the end user agreement (sometimes twice) every time i log into this game.  big ups on getting that fixe----  oh wait.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I /bow to Mythic for doing an excellent job.

War had a good release.... errr OK, but only because it is an old outdated game at launch.

True, it didn't have many issues that prevented people from logging in, but it is an ancient level of game design.  A game with this low level of depth should be about perfected at this point.  I would hope that, near the end of the first decade in the 21st century, a company could put out game that has the graphics, sound and character depth of  a game from the 1990's.

There isn't anything ground breaking here, just old Diablo, mixed with some WoWesk characters and tossed in to tiny arenas that mythic calls 'servers'.

Yes I know what it means, and like I said, they are out in force. Dont misunderstand me, not everyone that enjoys WAR is a fanboi.

But I do think its hilarious that some people that swear by the game right now will complain about it, and close their accounts in 1-6 months when the new car smell is gone.

LoL AoC didnt even take 6 months.

Do you even know what the term fanboi means?

Yes I know what it means, and like I said, they are out in force. Dont misunderstand me, not everyone that enjoys WAR is a fanboi.

But I do think its hilarious that some people that swear by the game right now will complain about it, and close their accounts in 1-6 months when the new car smell is gone.

More useless rhetoric. You just made this thread to say "told you so" to the people that will actually do this. Which is pointless, it happens. You didn't tell anyone so. Stop screaming for attention. Will a mod please lock this now?

LOL,  What are you so worked up about? Take a tranquilizer.

What did you make this thread for?

Exactly what the topic says. If you cant handle talking about it, then dont.

This is exactly what I'm worked up about. There is nothing to talk about. You are bringing nothing new here to the forums to discuss.

75% of all threads are nothing new, but the same things that have been talked about before. Wanna work on getting all those threads locked as well? Theres nothing wrong with talking about fanbois.

To enjoy himself. His world is stimulated by things such like this... The title with this quote is proof enough of that... and possibly his idea of a joke:  How do I collect enough fanbois in one location to show the world?

Just watch him, get a feel for the type of person he is...

I am sure he won't fail to dissappoint.

There is when you're a complete fucking halfwit, starting a thread in attempt to elevate your own self-worth so you can say you were right about something that doesn't even matter.
