It is good news that things are progressing. Of course for the people fortunate enough to be involved the next two weeks prove to be very long indeed.

Only a little over two weeks to go go go.

 

When I do my first gate trip I am gonna spin round on my computer chair until i vomit to simulate the nausia that goes with the first jump.

Um guys...You wouldn't even have to be a member here to go look at the winners list and see all 500 people who won beta keys, no big secret.

The Closed beta start is readily available anywhere on the net. So where does NDA come into this?

It doesn't . . . . . . . . but some people are soooooo sensitive about NDA (the kind that probably think the government listens to every phone call they make) that is is fun to dismiss them before they get the chance to speak out.

The details of the NDA are mentioned in detail on the Stargate Website and are pretty standard.  Nothing is signed but the agreement is a condition of access and is therefore assumed.

 

Roll on 15/10/2008  (or 10/15/2008 depending on which side of the pond)

I'm in too, but I've been so busy with Warhammer I'm wondering how much time I'll actually give SW in beta.  To tell the truth I'm not even a fan, I just won it on this site and figured it would be worth doing the beta tests.

When the actual Closed Beta starts, it's basically more towards not spreadin out the actual game, footage/screenshots. Just be sure to stay quiet and not make a fuzz after the Beta has started because then... I have no clue what will be your consequences.

This is all a guess... because I really have no clue, i'm just giving my opinion.

You're right. I have beta'd enough games to know the limits. Once it starts we testers can't give any info.

Funny because in every game, there are people who get in beta, hate the game and never plan on playing it, so they blab on sites like this anyway. Info always gets leaked.

I've been following this for a few months now, and things are going well.  They've got a fairly tight knit group there working hard to get this game out and make it into something memorable, as well as playable.  If you've not checked it out, give it a week or two and wait till the massively re-designed website gets launched.  What's there now is really just a placeholder to keep the die hard fans updated.  You're going to soon see a very slick website to give you all the goodies you want while waiting for the game to launch.  Remember, it's just now about to launch closed beta, so about 5-6 months of closed testing followed by a few weeks of open so everyone can get their feet wet and decide if they like it before launch.  Marketing hasn't even begun yet.  Going to be some interesting new things with this MMO.

And for those wanting an FPS. I can sympathize, but until the internet can actually handle real-time data on this scale we're out of luck.

5-6 months of closed beta?

seriously.. alpha just ended. We're looking at least at another 18-24 months of testing and implementation. 5-6 months LOL i almost choked on my lunch.

18 months of closed beta?  If you've experienced that It's a sad thing.  They're already using an established engine(unreal) so half the battle is over.  And they have indeed been working on this for over 2 years, but the public beta process should never be longer than about 6 months.  My timeline stands.  Should be around an April or May open beta. 

 

Any delay beyond that would simply be for market timing.

4 YEARS , If that's the case, What the hell is the deal with Darkfall , Sorry Darkfall fan's I just had to throw that in.

But i agree, its gonna be a long road in beta testing before this game see's the light of day.

I love being in the early beta then you get to be in the ground floor and participate as it grows. Charactor wipes, CTD's falling through the world, bugs and massive exploits to find...yeah.

Wish I could get paid to beta test games *sigh*.

I really hope they manage to stick to this date but the cynic in me just knows they're going to push it back. The newsletter mentioned 'before the end of October' but no specific date.

Ok.  We'll agree to disagree.   

Hopefully a few of us are going to be lucky enough to get in next week and see for ourselves.  (still waiting for that e-mail myself)   There's no way I could beta for 18 months...i'd get too burned out.  Have to alternate 1 week on 2 off or something.

Actually, the OP was excitedly posting about the release date. The CM pwned the guy who said 80% chance of delay.
