Weird shooting bug.. Can't damage anyone?

I've only noticed this in the last few days.. But I'll shoot someone, and then all of a sudden I stop getting experience and doing damage. Likewise, they stop getting experience and doing damage to me. Neither of us are lagging, because we can talk and fly around like normal. Can warp to other systems, can do everything.. Except shoot each other. It doesn't show the other ship shooting me, and they don't see me shooting them.
However, while we were experiencing this, players were shooting each other down.. So it seemed to be only us that were affected.
Anyone know what causes this, and how to fix it? It's happened a lot in the last few days, screwing me out of numerous kills :P

this happened to me also both of us could not see each others wepon fire, and thought the other was close to dieing and just stupid for not firing back untill we talked.
