Giving this another shot (for the third time)

I love the idea behind Eve. The story (Cinematic is breathaking, no idea why) the enviorment and the single server are very appealing to me. The problem is, every time I try this game out, I end up quitting because I have no one to play with.

I made a thread like this before and I was told to join a corporation. I tried to do that but most wont invite me because I am on a trial account or the ones that do accept me don't really take any time to answer my questions or actually point me to the right direction on what I should be doing. So what happened the last two times that I played the trial was that I went through the tutorial (get past it fine) did the the quests that I was told afterwards but then I got burned out and lost all interest.

What should I do to keep my interest in the game? All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

An important aspect of EVE is that it is a sandbox game.  Given time and persistence there is almost nothing you can't do.

My advice would be to set some goals for yourself and work toward them.  Figure out a short term goal or two and start on those, but as soon as you can define some longer term goals as well.  If all you have to do ingame is shoot at rats, run missions, and mine you most likely will find yourself losing interest in the game again.

So, what would you like to do?  Become an infamous pirate?  Lead an influential 0.0 corp?  Corner the market in interspacial widgets?

Whatever you decide what you would like to do tomorrow will help define what you need to do today.

Another question then. How important is character creation towards the path you want to follow. I want to be a pirate (yeah I know, most people are against it, I enjoy giving other players a hard time, just the kind of character I like to rp) if I make a character right now with my limited knowledge of the game and invest into the wrong stats will it come back to haunt me in the end?

Provided that none of the other 1000s of players that have been playing years longer than you decide to let you do that to start with.

Unlike other games you can NEVER catch up in Eve. What this means is that folks that have been playing longer than you will have access to more shit, and be able to be more effective in more shit then you will be. Trying to specialize is a good idea, but when joe blow from down the row can jump into nearly any ship and still tear you a new one no matter how good you are in your one ship thanks to all the extras they've trained in over the years, well that's just not any fun.

The game is great, well besides the fact it's the only game I can go take a shit while on auto-pilot and come back and still not be at my destination.

The biggest problem is, all the players that have been around years longer will always, ALWAYS be at more of advantage than you. Even if you bought a metric shit ton of ISK from a farmer because the way skills work you'll always be at a disadvantage. There will never be a way for you to compete unless you run across someone who's totally incompetent.

You MUST join a corp, bow to their wishes, and hope like hell you ain't just there to keep a chair warm for someone else.

I will say however that the community on a whole is by far the best I've ever seen. The game is flawless in functional design (bugginess, lag and shit like that doesn't exit) and their tech support is by far the best ever.

Ah I guess its too late then eh? I still might give this a shot, just incase I find some people to play with.

Oh GOD I get so bored of the "you can never catch up" argument!

First, while true, you can never catch up to players who have been in the game longer due to the way skills train, what the poster fails to say, perhaps because he does not understand it himself, the argument is meaningless!

Over the past couple of weeks I've been following stories on the EVE0O forum, Crime and Punishment section, of totallly green, new players who started their piracy careers virtually from the day they created their characters.

There is another player, Burn Mac, who did the same a couple of months ago and is now a member of a pirate corp with rather strintent entry requirements.

So, sure, go ahead and spout off about how you can never catch up, and those of us who know how insignificant that fact is will go about pursuing our EVE careers while you play WoW.

    Oh, and Ragana,

There are a couple of threads right here on this forum, still on the front page I believe, about how not being able to "catch up" is really no biggie.

EVE is far more about attitude than it is about SP.  Just go do what you want, and if you are interested in piracy I can point you in the direction of a corp or two that should be able to help you in your path.  ;)

    Just a quick note.

Don't blindly. believe anything people post here
Especially if they are obviously ranting.

You can be useful in any field in the game within a few weeks, you can be good at most things in the game in a few months.  The trick is to know what you want to do, read/learn on how to get there and put in the effort and braincells to make it happen. Most people hate effort and lack braincells, thus they'll tell you that you can never catch up and that old players have unfair advanatages.

You can compete just fine with the vets. The only thing they will have on you is variety.
