I know everyone has been there. They enjoy the new mmo that they are playing and feel that they are blessed to be on the earth to have gotten to be immersed in such a glorious world. Then alas out comes the nerd stick and your game is beaten down into ruin, and that last 200 hours you put into making your character template is nerfed and you are given the option of expert balerina instead of the expert head smasher ability that you have just unlocked. Well, would you be keen to playing a game if you weere guaranteed no nerfing? Do you think it would help to know that all that hard earned time may be for nothing? Considering a lot of developers don't play that games they develop for some of the nerfs I have seen in my life are mind boggling and irrational to most players.

I know a lot of people probably won't agree with me but things like basic game balance really should be correct before a mmorpg even hits the shop shelves.
I suspect half the time they make changes to shake things up so that the game stays interesting without having to add actual content.
There's a differance between the balance of the gameplay of how the developers play and how the players play.
In a lot of cases when something gets nerfed it's NOT because there are no responses to it. It's because an utter idiot can play that class style effectively, while the responses against the style they're using aren't on the 'idiot' level.
So this means that after getting the minor tweaks after release the next balance update that actually changes stuff will have more change than you can expect. So the counters especially the more advanced ones that weren't used before will become more apparent and be used and obviously need to be nerfed since they're overpowered when compared to previously nerfed styles/abilities.

It doesn't happen all the time and isn't always apparent and most deffiantly isn't the only reason for taking out the nerf bat. It is there.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
What a dumb question! Who is going to say, "No, I like losing power."

Its a little more complex then yes or no (to me). On one hand it'd be nice to know that nothing will ever be nerfed, but what if there are such imbalances that need balanced out? Nobody is going to willingly change how they play to accomidate the enemy, so in a lot of cases a nerf is necessary in order to maintain the fun of the game.A dev team that constantly nerf's is problematic, however, especially when ideally a problem can be fixed by going up instead of down, but its not always the case.
it all depends on the size of the nerf
of course a gamer is going to be pissed if they get smacked in the face with the nerf stick and such a large nerf shouldnt be needed anyway if it is the dev didnt do her job properly and deserves to be moaned at
but on the other hand a small poke with the nerf stick is some times needed and a player wont be as pissed off if they get poked in the tummy than if they get smacked in the face
kinda funny that you typoed "nerd stick" there.
if they would stop releasing unfinished product we wouldnt see so much of it thats for sure. doesnt help that gaming is no-longer for nerdy massochists that LIKE having things hard either, its like every game is just trying to steal wow subs so they GOTS to keep it dumbed down.
i dont even like games having guides and faqs, i think they are for sissies that cant think for themselves. dont even get me started on third party add-ons like custom ui's. i dont see the point in playing the games if you are just looking up how to do everything constantly.
it sucks when it happens and all but i see it as sometimes neccisary since the games keep changing. i dont see why they dont make 1 SOLID rule set and then work on advancing the game, it seems like they constantly retool things to make it look like things are happening.
If they stop making overpowered classes we could retire the nerf stick.
Rebalancing will always be necessary, except for games that follow the absolute strictest of character progression (i.e. class-based with no ability to specialize whatsoever).
Nobody likes to get nerfed but the Flavor of the Month Effect (where an imbalance is discovered, announced, and subsequently exploited by everyone and their mutant dogs) is not something that's likely to ever go away. The more complex potential character development paths become, the harder it is for the devs to foresee all possibilities, and the easier it is for something blatantly OP to slip through the cracks.
I've discovered that the best way to avoid getting nerfed is to avoid using whatever is Flavor of the Month (unless I'm just so lucky that it's me being me, in which case I'll enjoy it while it lasts). FOTM always gets nerfed, and the longer it takes the harder the nerfbat swings when it does come.

i fixed your post and added some sarcasm.

I hate nerfs after more than a few months or so of a powers existence and I don't believe in rock paper scissor type balance. Tweaking balance issues should be reserved for a probationary period after release, after that, it is what it is. Not like coh for example that decided to nerf energy transfer after 4 YEARS of it being in existence claiming it hurt the game. Floyd "F*cktard" Grubb needs to get himself a clue, nerfs have hurt the game more than anything else, more than half the game's original population quit because of them, ET never did that. Dev bastards.
