So is there still no drug dealing or prostitution, AKA crime for criminals to do?

    some people lol

    Thank you for understanding

I absolutely want drugs ,crime and prostitution in the game

Why ?This game is positioning itself as crime/law orientated game .In the real world drugs and prostitution are an intrinsic part of criminal organizations .So why wouldn't you  want to be exposed to them in a game about that ?

It really does undermine APB if these aren't in ...or at least the game cant claim to be authentic .Any on these forums who thinks murder, bank robberies and gang violence is acceptable but drugs and prostitution is wrong needs to take a serious look introspectively at there moral code...because its hypocritical and skewed

So yeah. Police can kill innocent ppl. I dont talk about the criminal players. If a player can be a police, he might be able to kill some innocent. Criminal can kill police since its more of a criminal vs police and both are players only. We can steal cars. They learn us how to open car doors without key and make make it roll without the key again.

And there is no drug dealing and prostitution. WTF??? IF GTA had all that, why APB cant do it too? I dont get it.

Someone needs to make a Drug Wars online with a 3D engine. I used to love that game!

  • neoterrarneoterrar Member Posts: 512

I guess my question would be how would you implement drugs and prostitution?

I know other games allowed you to "Craft" and sell drugs. But prostitution? Really?

I don't want to know how you would even imagine that implemented.

    ---

From what I have gathered so far it's basically going to be a really big scenario sort

of thing. Group A will have to accomplish Task A and Group B will have to prevent task A

or do task b..sort of thing. But I'm daft.

Well, I think that this game won't have drug dealing or anything else similar because they say its action online game. What I have read it seems that they are making a action game, not a mmo. In the gamescom gameplay vid it seems that its a true action game that you play online.

I was hoping that this game could be real criminals vs. cops MMORPG, but it seems that it won't be. But if its a good action online game I will buy it and play it like hell.

This game needs to take it all the way when it comes to crimes you can commit. Drug dealing & prostitution are for kids, I want serial killers, rapists and every other hardcore crime imaginable.

  • himurakhimurak Member UncommonPosts: 3

You do know that there will be a fame/infamy rating as per your "serial killer" request. As for your drugs and prostitution I wouldn't put it past them. It will be M so they probably will go all out.

I can't believe what I've been reading in this thread, this is just insane.

Setting aside whether they're designing APB without drugs and prostitution for marketing reasons, people's responses in this thread are so hypocritical. APB is a game about crime - that is the basic premise: cops chase criminals and try to capture them when they're committing any illegal activities. Drug dealing and prostitution are the most well-established criminal activities occurring today, no question about it. Both affect people around the world. That is fact, no question about it. Why shouldn't they be included in this game?

From a completely objective point of view, setting aside our moral prejudices (which are clearly misfounded after having read this thread), drug dealing and prostitution (as well as other taboo crimes like rape) should definitely be included. Not only that, but they'd add a whole new dimension to the game, as people have already mentioned: from 'low-level' activity (crafting, buffs, etc.) to higher-level, more organized activity (massive drug transactions from one gang to another, cops busting big prostitution rings, etc). So, both of these activities would provide a cocherent addition to the APB world and add a vast amount of depth to the game.

The only reason some of you seem to be against it is because of some messed up social stigma associated with drugs and prostitution. But even if you ARE against drugs and prostitution, why you wouldn't want it in this game is mind boggling. I'm against killing people and chopping off their heads (I really hope you are too) but I still find it to be an extremely important element in a lot of games; not because of that will I think any less of these games, because THEY ARE NOT REAL LIFE!

Seriously, whoever thinks that drugs and prostitution in a cops vs. criminals GAME is completely unnecessary needs to take their heads out of their asses (or bibles, whatever) and realize what's really going on in the world.

     Gaaaaah!

Are you going to shoot up the old lady that abuses her vixodin prescription?  Or the fat guy getting a coner in his car?

It's an action shooting/driving game so you need action crimes, like car theft and bank robberies.  (I'll give you some aspects of drugs are action oriented.)

I know I want to shoot up wall street investors that steel our money, you know how cathartic that would be?

Or what about the dumb ass kids that don't know how to use the cross walk that is 10ft from them, can I run them over?

    God I'm old.

    Hey! Get off my lawn.

I'm sorry,I'm fairly certain that in the phrase "Cops and Robbers" at no point says "and Pimps and Druglords".

Remember in the playground, when you used to just play, where were the prositutes and dealers? I'll answer, probably not playing your game, which may I remind you APB is a game, not real life.

Basicly cops stop robbers from stealing things,

Where as robbers attempt to take things from others, you see the balance is restored.

Throw pimps and dealers in the mix,it all gets a bit busy.

The cops end up focusing on the pimps and dealers, giving the robbers and easy job,and as far as my knowledge goes,Games are meant to be a challenge.

Maybe you can be a pimp or a drug dealer, even a prostitute. A corrupt cop? An informant? The more diversity and immersion the better in my opinion. If it helps build a strong community then I'm all for it.

Fair point,I'm all for a stonger community and diversity but it feels a bit unneeded as the orginal game concept of robbing, finding, stopping then the choice of arresting or killing seems to be working pretty smoothly and well.

Setting aside all the discussion about whether drugs and prostitution should be in the game or not, I'm just wondering..

MMOs almost always try to be G-rated.  Supposedly its to broaden appeal, or to avoid bad press, or something?  but why do MMOs follow different rules than single-player games (like, you know, GTA)  Wouldn't the issues be pretty much just the same?  It can't be because MMOs are bigger business - there's no way APB will be as big as GTA, and if anything, the average age demographic for MMOs is probably at least a few years older than SP games...

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Do you seriouslly need to have low-life crimes such as drug dealing and prostitution in the game? Do you honestly think thoes are the only crimes in this world? If so, you sir, have some serious issues. Not to mention this game appears to be about action oriented crime, such as bank robberies. Its kinda hard to have running shootouts with prostisutes...

Drug dealing and prostitution arent low life crimes.. they are the crimes that build empires, hve you ever seen someonee gang make it big on bank heists?  The bigest crimelords make their bread on drugs, or prostition or all of the above. I suppose gun running is up there as well.

And people need to stop listing grand theft auto as the game to look at, the best game of this genre is saints row / saints row 2 these games bang out the criminal taking over the city genre much better then gta ever did it in my opinion.

ofcourse there will be prostitution, here's how it works.  simply start your female charachter, give her as much fur as possible with as much skin showing as possible, stand on a corner and tell your fellow criminals they look very handsome today.

  • BinkoBinko Member Posts: 267

I think this game is Mature, so who knows what's inside it? Maybe it have drug deals, but with other names? Like take this "box of chill" to this guy and so on. =) If they don't use the right words they might be able to have it ingame. Doh I'm sure some anti drug people will be angry over it, but in the end it's just good PR for the game and more will play it.

About the prostitution, well I don't wanna play a whore. But why not make it like GTA, a NPC whore that you can visit for some HP or whatever. ^^ Or at some higher lvl you can become a pimp and get some extra cash from your bitches. =P And you get the option to make them like you do with vehicles etc... haha. That would be awsome!

BUT the biggest problem I see with this game is that most missions seem to end up with PvP, the missions will just have other names... in the end it's just like GTA online. How fun will that be after some days playing?

Will this be a MMO or just GTA online? Zone that is safe where you can meet other players and talk don't turn it into a MMORPG... right?

The game appears to be based on cops and robbers, not cops and criminals. So if the crime isn't centered on armed robbery, it probably won't be in-game; excluding the pre/after party.

Ideally, I would imagine prostitution and pimping to be not unlike animal taming and pet management as in other popular MMORPGs. Find the troubled woman, break her spirits, and then train her. Please forgive the awfulness and politically incorrect nature of this suggestion, but it would be a relatively realistic and easy adaptation of how pet mechanics are generally handled in this industry.

"The Criminals wreak havoc on the city of San Paro. They take advantage of civilians, damage property, ruin businesses, and kill Enforcers (aka the BAD GUYS).

Tired of doing the same old same boring quests, where you have to save the princess or collect flowers. Let me introduce you to the Criminals, where stealing cars, robbing TVs, and collecting the bounties off of Enforcers heads, are perfectly ok.

So in APB gangs will have the ability to attack other criminals. This will make competing gangs fighting for turf within the same district fun to watch."

Though focused primarily on cops and robbers style gameplay, there are clearly elements of other criminal behavior. Drug running could easily fit the same mission mold as robbing a bank, so I cannot see how the diversity could hurt the game any. Although drugs and hookers are more socially taboo in America than is stealing and killing, risky game mechanics and controversial media attention would make for decent exposure, something all MMORPGs desperately need nowadays in this flooded market...

  • BinkoBinko Member Posts: 267

I'm not sure this is a MMORPG. So I don't think it's going to have much other stuff then vehicles, cloths, tatoos, guns and ofc PvP and zone wars. I think thats about it.

But it can be fun anyway. Or boring very fast.

I hope the big city or freezone have something more then just a freezone before you enter action....

This game is a joke.  I don't think very many people will buy this game after they find out there are NO DRUGS or hookers.  I'd expect that they are going to keep that detail as low-key as possible.

Developers always have personal reasons to be moral nazis.  Like someone's kid died from an overdose or something.

This reminds me when the developer of Fallout 3 said that there is "no point in killing children".  It's very hard to be the guy in the conference room during a meeting to stand up and scream "I WANT DEAD CHILDREN!" to the head CEO.

This is what I mean by personal reasons.  Things like this are made by face-to-face decisions, not by things like common sense.

Well i am buying this game for the character customization, the gangs vs enforcer guild feature and the 3rd person shooter aspect, i could careless about the hookers.

But as for how to implement it, look at saints row 2, and how they did it, they had special houses that just generated money daily, you dont actually have to see the act for it to work.

Yes, no need to see the action but to have it ingame. Makes it more real.
