I have a problem

EvilGargamelEvilGargamel Member Posts: 85

with this games official website....  because it's simply TERRIBLE.

Forget the fact that it looks like it was built by some high school class learning visual design and Photoshop.

Forget the fact that it hasn't been updated in months... and has all old game info on it.

http://www.darkfallonline.com

and you're still left with the question....  does this look like a website that represents a AAA quality MMORPG that is launching in a few weeks and ready to support active accounts and subscribers?

If these people can't even put together a proper industry standard quality website weeks before a supposed commercial launch.. then how in gods name can anyone expect an actual functioning MMORPG to be launched?

    Subjective.

Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...

The thing to remember is that Aventurine has made it fairly obvious they don't give a shit about publicity. The site is simple, information is fairly accurate, and it still is functional/navigatable.

I'm glad they're focus is on making the game instead b/c that's all that really matters to me.

I'm not entirely disagreeing with you either. It probably wouldn't hurt to do so this close to a supposed launch.

Eh well they aint a big company. And who cares about websites when the truth is in the game itself. Long as functions and has everything needed at launch time on the website who cares.

That's not a positive thing to be bragging about. Just thought I should throw that out there next to the kool aid bowl.

How the heck are you gonna judge a game by its website? You're a fool man. They're finally trying to push the game out, and you're flaming over a poor website? They don't have time for that junk dude - They'll work on it after the game is launched when they have less on their plate. If you want "current status," check out the test vids. Nuff said.

Love the sinner, hate the sin.

Ever hear of hiring a design studio to build a website for you? I mean surely if they can build a AAA mmorpg they can spend a few grand on having a nice site built.  Right???

    Innovative idea huh?

I think the only problem you have is that you have too much free time in your hand, and you troll around Darkfall forum to fill your empty days.

I understand that the website is  very basic (it is obvious to everyone who visit it), but as a Darkfall troll, you should have followed the entire saga and you should know that Aventurine does everything at the last minute without announcing it.

Aventurine communication is very poor, many can be the reasons, main one is that they have a very small devs team.

Tasos himself is a developer, so it doesn't have probably enough time for PR, like Mark Jakobs or the fat guy from Funcom, which by the way with all the money they had at their disposal have produced 2 prime example of pure crap.

They will update the website just before launch not weeks in advance, so don't try to understand why the website is not updated, because they are not gonna do it, until is necessary to do so.

But I have an idea, since you have so much time in your hand, why don't you offer to design one.

Maybe Tasos will give you a Beta key as reward, so you can break the NDA annd tell everyone how shit Darkfall is.

    Ah ok.

so let me get this straight -- you're saying that it takes some kind of full time, high paid, dedicated PR person to open NotePad, edit some HTML with news items and hit upload on a FTP?

You know that takes all about 5 minutes to do right?

yeah cut em some slack, theyre completely inexperienced at making MMOs. Theyve got their hands full. And dont blame it on Tasos, hes never even developed an MMO before.

Well, you see how few information Aventurine release in the forum, can you imagine them revamping the website?

Look, I am not happy either the way they manage their communication (or lack of), but I excuse them because they are a really tiny team, and I hope that all their time is put on developing the game only, so the game can be decent if not good.

If I was them, I would have found few hours a day to give more info or redesign the site, but after all I don't know what does it takes to develope a MMO and how they organise their time.

I am not kidding myself, this game have good chances it might fail, for 2 reason.

Firstly because they are a small team, and they might not have enough time and resources to make it fully functional.

Secondly they might not be able to delivery  the long list of features they list on their FAQs (they are many)

Who follow Darkfall knows this, the only people deluded to know everything might be you.

This is not a second DnL, people ain't blind.

Unless we see a "pay for beta" or a "buy before you see", there is no need to be so alarmed.

Aventurine said that everyone will have the chance to play the game before they buy it.

Then you might start bitching, and who knows, I might even join you.

So if the game is shit, you will see it with your own very eyes before parting with your well earned money.

I don't understand all this "beware this game is Vaporware" and then "Beware this game is a scam" that is going on in those forum.

Criticise the design, don't put Darkfall on the same level of Mythic and Funcom, they have different budget and might do things very differently from others.

That doesn't mean that they are scam.

We will all have the chance to see that in December, there is no need for all this alarmism............yet.

You might go out and have some fun until December, then you can resume your bashing after you ll have the chance to try the game.

Absolutely. Everything about the development of this game has been shabby. That's why I can't believe there's going to be a decent product at the end of it... if there is an end.

Really guy's, slagging of the website is a bit lame.

We don't  want to  play the site do we, I think the game may hold my attention a little more.

If you actully have a life its quite simple.

Either the game comes out or it dosn't

    Its either goods or not

No-ones payed anything yet have they, so why get sooo petty.

I've been following this game a long time and I'll be made up if it ever comes.

As for release dates and  graphics, I really could'nt give a shit.

Here is a good professional site. But they still seem to be lacking the "AAA quality MMORPG" part. Go figure.

"The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar, our only goal will be the western shore."

What game do you play? War? with NO forums? Wow?? with horribly ugly forums?? please tell me

Aventurine is an indie developer, I expect some things like this from such a small company.  I expect that the game will have its fair share of flaws as well, but I still think it looks like it will be fun as shit.  Would be better to compare it with something like Ryzom rather than WoW.

Yeah! That should shut everyone up. A great website means a good game, and a horrible website means a horrible game.

You must be mistaken sir, WAR doesnt have its own forums. Perhaps you are mistakenly thinking of the Warhammer Alliance boards?

  • foliotfoliot Member Posts: 88

I kinda like their website.  It is simple and to the point.  My only gripes are that the feature list is never updated, and the site says copyright @ 2007 on the bottom.

Their website sucks big time and you have zillions of better made amateur websites on the net so I'm just puzzled that these guys can't/don't want (put anything you want here) a decent website. The trouble isn't the website per se but the minimal attraction a product is supposed to exert to gain players.

A nice website would be cheap and would serve as the best free advertisement for these guys, especially if they don't count on usual ads! As an equivalent from another humble company I'm thinking of the Chronicles of Spellborn's website, nothing revolutionary really but cute and purposeful, and it was revamped recently.

So come on "hardcore" fanbois don't serve me this shit "website doesn't matter, only game": do you think that hesitant players who don't spend their days looking at videos and overhyping the game on all forums will have a good image and trust Aventurine to make a good game (I am not saying they won't though) if their visit card is that shitty. And if they don't have the minimal resources/will to design a decent website, how the ignorant player who is wooed by so many other games will still think as a fanboi "oki their website sux but maybe their game is worth a try". It's a sad decision and bad move from Aventurine really, thinking how many efforts and years they put in a mmorpg but are incapable of having an ok site.
