I dunno, TCOS looked like it had such a good direction, but that can be said for FURY a game with pretty much the same idea. We all know how well Fury did.. I predict the same fate for TCOS. The game looked good on paper but thats about it.
Well, actually, the game is real good in practice too. It has some small issues, but only one big issue: not enough people play the game. I can think of many ways to solve that problem though.
On that issue. Acclaim asked for and got a 6 months postponement of the release date to be able to launch world wide. They got it and messed that up.
As excuse for delaying their present beta they claim they are waiting for SIL to send them the code, while actually SIL is waiting on them to send them the specifications to be able send them the code ready for their setup.
Blocking IP's and Letting Akklaim do what they need to do for NA players is the best way to keep peace, if that means making .0005% of all mmorpgs populations who are multinational friendships move to a different game, it is for the best.

I think, it was an awful decision on the developer's part to agree to the splitting of the UK players from the rest of Europe, BUT the questions remains, whether they had a choice. It took them a long time to find an NA publisher. Perhaps they could not pick and choose. Perhaps they had to accept conditions, they did not like.
TCoS is made by a small company. They are not just copying the WoW format, they are trying something new (combat system etc). For that alone they deserve a fighting chance at least.
What are they trying that is new?
The game I experienced is quest driven, WoW does that, LoTRO does that, as do many other MMO's.

The targetting and click to fight battle system, you can find that in both TR and Diablo/Diablo 2.

Yes, its something new... new story, new quests ect... but its also the same, then any other mmo out there. especially the free ones... so far the only thing i have found that is really new is the fighting. based more on manual fighting where you have too aim and have your character faced certain positions too hit ect.... where most games are automatic so this one makes you "play" more. But not worth enough too pay a monthly fee and buy the box.

I'd like to point out though that the aiming still has been done before, TR and Hellgate London. And the clicking to fight, you can have the same experience for free with Diablo 2, or Sacred 2, or any other those other type of games that offer free servers to play on.

What are you talking about? Acclaim isnt even planning too bring the game out this year.... testing was supposed too start 2 months ago and they dont even have the codes yet. so by the time they get there act in gear. then go thru beta ect.... it will be 2010. so no worries for EU for a WHILE lol.

Look at Eve or Anarchy Online... Eve has 1 server, Anarchy has only 3 so you don't have to split people.
As for accounts and distribution rights... When creating the account, it would route you to either Frogster or Acclaim based on your IP (they already know how as they have the IP bans in place). So, they would just place some affiliate code in their user DB and each publisher would get their royalties and Spellborn the cash.
If you say it can't be done... well, a lot of companies use affiliate systems... they have the means to differentiate IPs already so wtf...

The skill deck is new (at least it's the first time I've seen it). Also TCoS is not gear based like other games.
I've played two classes in the trail and even with all the "new" features it still felt like I've done this before. I'm still undecided on whether I would pay for a sub. I'd be curious to know what changes past level 7, am I still killing 10 mobs, albeit with different skills, in exchange for money?
You can only rehash combat so many different ways before it all starts to blend together. Maybe it's time they started expanding RPG's in other directions (ie home building, city building, political systems, econmic systems, more utilitization of day / night cycles and weather). Then maybe the quests will have some basis and it'll feel like you're fighting for a reason instead of just killing mobs for the sake of killing mobs.

Well, since the account blocking seems to be only on account creation and not on the game servers themselves, maybe they will go that way. We don't know and they are not telling us.
Before the CM gave us an answer just to end all speculation on this subject, they were telling us that it was not yet clear how IP blocking will be implemented. It was certainly not clear when the CM gave that so-called clear answer to end the discussion.
Spellborn should have launched "world-wide". Since it did not, I guess the game is not fully released yet. Whether the game will be a succes can only be seen a month after a full release of the game in the so-called Western world. It might be that the population problems we see in the game now stem from the delay of the release by Acclaim.
I repeat that it is still way too soon to pass any judgement over this game.
The game itself is fun to play and the real-time fighting system delivers. The lore is surprising and entertaining. The world looks good and original. The only issues the game has are the low server populations and progression of quests between level 25-30. The latter should have been fixed before release, but no doubt will be fixed when the game releases to the rest of the world.
TCOS is only blocking ppl that are in countries that dont have the game out for sale for creating your account. as for servers they have English French International (most ppl go too this one because they dont care)

And the German servers make up for approx. 60 of the whole player base. German PVE server being the only one with a least a couple of players.

It dosent seem to be that much of an issue with me tbh, and you get to choose which server location to play from as a bonus...
I don't get the people complaing about this, it's so easily solveable.

germany, austria, switzerland got TWO servers - so no, there are definitly NOT TOO MUCH servers, simply way too less players!

I can understand the frustration of the English players and their friends, but how selfish is it, to wish for the fail of a game, just to be able to feel vindicated?
I think, it was an awful decision on the developer's part to agree to the splitting of the UK players from the rest of Europe, BUT the questions remains, whether they had a choice. It took them a long time to find an NA publisher. Perhaps they could not pick and choose. Perhaps they had to accept conditions, they did not like.
TCoS is made by a small company. They are not just copying the WoW format, they are trying something new (combat system etc). For that alone they deserve a fighting chance at least.
What are they trying that is new?
The game I experienced is quest driven, WoW does that, LoTRO does that, as do many other MMO's.
PvP, every game has that in one form or another.
The targetting and click to fight battle system, you can find that in both TR and Diablo/Diablo 2.
What did I miss to make this game stand out and worth paying to play?
Ya i have too agree. I have been playing this game and have not found a real good reason too buy it when it comes out too North America. Yes, its something new... new story, new quests ect... but its also the same, then any other mmo out there. especially the free ones... so far the only thing i have found that is really new is the fighting. based more on manual fighting where you have too aim and have your character faced certain positions too hit ect.... where most games are automatic so this one makes you "play" more. But not worth enough too pay a monthly fee and buy the box.

I'd like to point out though that the aiming still has been done before, TR and Hellgate London. And the clicking to fight, you can have the same experience for free with Diablo 2, or Sacred 2, or any other those other type of games that offer free servers to play on.

Neither worth paying to play for many people, so going the way of the dodo bird......
However the free to play over the internet games mentioned (Diablo 2 etc) still seem to do well, perhaps that's what this game should have been all along.

Well it's 100% for any EU long running guild - I mean half my guild is now apprently in the US and half in the EU, hosting the 'english' severs in the US fine, but locking completely? Acclaim really know how to destroy MMOs don't they? shame it's to a very good inde title too....

What are you talking about? Acclaim isnt even planning too bring the game out this year.... testing was supposed too start 2 months ago and they dont even have the codes yet. so by the time they get there act in gear. then go thru beta ect.... it will be 2010. so no worries for EU for a WHILE lol.
FYI: I didn't know Romanian was an international language, honestly. Next time, don't assume anything. I have been living in Romania for the past 28 years of my 28 years life and I am very much aware that not everyone speaks my language.

Well, I still can't understand why they couldn't just make few servers for all population and accounts based on "affiliate".
Look at Eve or Anarchy Online... Eve has 1 server, Anarchy has only 3 so you don't have to split people.
As for accounts and distribution rights... When creating the account, it would route you to either Frogster or Acclaim based on your IP (they already know how as they have the IP bans in place). So, they would just place some affiliate code in their user DB and each publisher would get their royalties and Spellborn the cash.
If you say it can't be done... well, a lot of companies use affiliate systems... they have the means to differentiate IPs already so wtf...

The skill deck is new (at least it's the first time I've seen it). Also TCoS is not gear based like other games.
I've played two classes in the trail and even with all the "new" features it still felt like I've done this before. I'm still undecided on whether I would pay for a sub. I'd be curious to know what changes past level 7, am I still killing 10 mobs, albeit with different skills, in exchange for money?
You can only rehash combat so many different ways before it all starts to blend together. Maybe it's time they started expanding RPG's in other directions (ie home building, city building, political systems, econmic systems, more utilitization of day / night cycles and weather). Then maybe the quests will have some basis and it'll feel like you're fighting for a reason instead of just killing mobs for the sake of killing mobs.

Well, since the account blocking seems to be only on account creation and not on the game servers themselves, maybe they will go that way. We don't know and they are not telling us.
Before the CM gave us an answer just to end all speculation on this subject, they were telling us that it was not yet clear how IP blocking will be implemented. It was certainly not clear when the CM gave that so-called clear answer to end the discussion.
Spellborn should have launched "world-wide". Since it did not, I guess the game is not fully released yet. Whether the game will be a succes can only be seen a month after a full release of the game in the so-called Western world. It might be that the population problems we see in the game now stem from the delay of the release by Acclaim.
I repeat that it is still way too soon to pass any judgement over this game.
The game itself is fun to play and the real-time fighting system delivers. The lore is surprising and entertaining. The world looks good and original. The only issues the game has are the low server populations and progression of quests between level 25-30. The latter should have been fixed before release, but no doubt will be fixed when the game releases to the rest of the world.

TCOS is only blocking ppl that are in countries that dont have the game out for sale for creating your account. as for servers they have

International (most ppl go too this one because they dont care)

And the German servers make up for approx. 60 of the whole player base. German PVE server being the only one with a least a couple of players.
Why dosent half of your guild use proxies to play with the other half?
It dosent seem to be that much of an issue with me tbh, and you get to choose which server location to play from as a bonus...
I don't get the people complaing about this, it's so easily solveable.
Just post the instructions of how to do it on your guild website and done deal surely?
