What is the FUNNIEST show on Television Currently And All Time

ginettiginetti Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 301

This question is a 2 parter:

"Current" T.V. shows do not include repeats... it must be new and or on going seasons of a show. Example: Cheers is still on T.V but is not a 'current' show.

All time can include current new shows and of course, shows that are no longer on the air, or on the air as repeats.

My Answers:

Currently the best show on TV IMO is 'The Office' (U.S.)

All time funniest show on TV: Faulty Towers.  MANUEL !!! lol.

I don't watch too many recent comedies. Between Seinfeld and Friends I sort of got burned out on network comedies. Current show tend to be rather formulaic(sp) and predictable. I did get to see the British version of The Office but didn't watch it that often to get hooked on. Never seen the American version.

But with that said, Fawlty Towers is probably the best comedy of all times. It was outragously funny and knew when to quit while it was ahead.

    Current: The Office

All Time: Without a Doubt it has to be M*A*S*H.

I had to look over at my bookcase filled with all 11 Seasons on DvD so I could see how many asterisks I needed.

I thought Arrested Development was good, was on G4 last year, not sure if it sill comes on..

    The Office is also hilarious

Current it would be a toss up between The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

All time I would have to say either Monty Python's Flying Circus or Faulty Towers. Both were hilarious.

    All-time: Seinfeld. Nothing comes close.

Current: It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

    All-Time: Seinfeld

I really like the Office as well. This season has been subpar compared to the others, though. Maybe things will get back to normal now that Pam is back. At least Jim won't be the only one shooting the camera "get me out of here" looks.

There's also been a total lack of plotline concerning Kevin, Darryl, Stanley, well. . .pretty much everyone else. What happened to the little interview segments? They used to work those drifters in during a Michael spaz session.

'The temp' became a lead role too, another bad decision.

Don't watch anything current. Favorite comedy of all time is the Odd Couple.

  • ginettiginetti Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 301

No one mentioned Red Dwarf ? *sob*

This was a close 2nd for me next to Faulty Towers.

It had it all, sci fi theme, set in space, last human alive... a neurotic android, countless vindaloo curries, oh, and Arnold J Rimmer, who can forget him.

Keep em coming folks, some great shows have been mentioned so far.

I too am a HUGE fan of Arrested Development + Curb Your Enthusiasm !

I would also like to put in Mystery Science Theater 3000 for honorable mention for all-time best comedy. Such a simple idea for so many laughs!

If you think Family Guy is one of the funniest shows of all time, then I'm not surprised you don't like The Office.  It uses a very dry humor that not everyone will get right away, or even at all.  Steve Carrell is one of the funniest people in comedy right now.  He is brilliant.

The show uses a style of humor that lets you sit and think about something, and how absurd the things are that happen, due to the realistic style of the show.  They actually develop characters as well, and have real life situations in the show instead of just humor, which is what makes a lot of people like it.  It puts a more human face to the humor, instead of just a show where you don't care about the characters.

It's not quite a drama comedy like for instance Friends, but not quite slapstick comedy like (IMO), Family Guy.

    The Office is great.

The Family Guy however is a very poor show, it's way too much below the belt for my taste.

Current funniest show on television......The Detroit Lions Football games. Catch it on Thanksgiving day, it's a takeoff on the movie "The Replacements".

All time funniest show on television.....The Detroit Lions Football games. The last championship season they had was in the 1950's, when Bobby Lane was the quarterback. After that it has been all for laughs.

Note: I would have to say Home Improvement and Barney Miller are close runnerups though.

I like them both, they are both funny in different ways/styles.

I appreciate many forms of funny.

I loved the first two seasons of The Office especially. This current season has been particularly weak though, and the last one was a bit weak for leading up to this one.

Seems as of last episode they're shuffling back in some old elements. Toby is back, Pam is back, now if they'd just get on with it resolving the parallel wedding arcs.

Current production would be " South Park ".

All time would be " Monty Python's Flying Circus ".
