Can you respec?

brostynbrostyn Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,092

Thinking about giving it another go. Can you respec your skill points? I remember last time I played I had to start over about 50 times, because it turned out I kept training in dumb skills that didn't matter in the DDO universe.

    Does this help any?

Someone gave me a dragonshard once because like you I trained in something I thought would be useful. I forget now, but was a nice player. The new Mod has good starting builds now so you can get an idea on how you want to go with your character. I love it.

Think you can get dragonshards in chests on certain runs.

NO. However the new Character creation system  does a much better job of holding your hand.. you can stick with the path you chose at level ups and have the system pick your skills.. or decide to do them yourself.

PS: Shards respec feats.. they can be puleld from some chests but the primary source of them is as a reward at 75 Argonessan favor..

(Favor is awarded for completed quests.. scales for difficulty)

I notice in game it says you can respec the enhancements. That's what I was talking about. I decided to rejoin, and saw it.

Enhancements are the easiest and most comprehensive to respec.  It is part of the level up interface for enhancements.  Has a time limit I believe.  It just refunds all points for a fee.

Feats require the shard and only let you swap out one feat and is time limited.  A full feat respec takes a number of shards and time.

    Skills are cannot be respecced.

Its a wonky system.  Don't rely on repsecs for anything other than Enhancements or swapping a feat at some later points.  If you screw up your feats big time a respec is possible but very painful.

Basically plan out your character's feats and especially skills or you can get screwed.

Maybe someone can help me out with the name of the quest in the harbor...

There is a quest in the harbor where you answer questions about the different Houses. Once completed, you can get a free feat exchange with Fred in House Jorasco under the garden of respite.

You're able to respec' Enhancements every 3 days.  If you play a Sorcerer you can swap out 1 spell every 3 days as well.  A Feat can be swapped out if you have the proper shard, different shards are required for different levels, and it also takes 3 days before you can do it again.

You CANNOT respecify Skill Points. These are permanent choices made to your character.

Although he is correct, making sure you get your right feats is important, its really not THAT hard to get a redo. One of the first characters I rolled was a Dwarf Barb and man was he gimped! I had no clue what the hell I was doing. So as he got to the mid levels I stopped playing him because well he just wasn't meeting my expectations. However one day while perusing the DDO forums I found a great Dwarf Barbarian build. I used it as the basis for rebuilding my character.  I swapped out a few feats, redid my enhancements and WALAH.. it was like a whole new character. He plays great, is right in the thick of things and is keeping up with everyone else. I think I needed 3 Siberys stones to do the swap. He already had one, I had another character who had one who didn't need it (they can be sent between players) and the third came from my guild giving me some shards they had collected(you make smaller shards into larger ones using the eldritch device in the marketplace). It definitely is smarter and cheaper to plan your build out ahead but if you make some mistakes its nice to know you can still fix most of them.

Although I appreciate that DnD is a no-respec culture it really wrecks DDO for me. Even a well thought out DnD character might need some tweaking at some point to become more feasible at DDO and as soon as I realise I cant change XYZ I honestly end up rage quitting. Especailly when the game can become rebalanced by the devs at any point you'd think the ability to respect on a timer wouldn't exactly drag the game to its knees.
