Thievery, need help from the experts.

So i'm playing a bad character for the first time   I'd like to know how much you can safely steal?  I know what the starpedia says, and some people have told me things but they kind of conflicted.  So far I have been able to steal 25% of my total exp without a problem.  I have about 22k exp or something.  I have heard you can go to half, but I don't want to EVER get caught....25% exp loss is a big hit, especially when I get up toward 100k exp.

Also, how many times can you safely steal said amount from the same starport?  So far I have gotten 25% of my total exp 4 times from the same starport (assuming they actually have enough to steal) without a problem.  Then I left because I didn't want to push my luck.  Thanks in advance for your advice

My policy is steal 50% of your experience, up to a maximum of 10 times per starport.  Then give it 8 hours to reset before you try again.

Since doing this, I've never been caught.  It's some good money.. I had 112k experience, stole 55k 10 times.. Of course, it's hard to find starports with that much money later in the game.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, it's working great so far.  Next question:

What about stealing cargo?  I'd like to be able to steal spice when I need it and equipment...any advice?

I personally don't mess with stealing cargo as stealing the amount of money needed to BUY spice or equipment is much easier than stealing the cargo itself. But someone else plz correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't been evil in awhile.

I dunno.  It's rare for me to find a starport with 100k+ in it, i mean rare.  Filling my sethdar with spice can cost 40k, so it seems kind of silly to spend the money I stole to buy something I can steal...I did a couple of tests.  I stole 50 units of spice and 50 units of equipment from the same starport, didn't get caught, and I have about 50k exp.

Well pretty much the secret  to finding a ritch station is to look on your galaxy map for main routes into and out of the sol system specially if a system is a lonely jump to the outer rim where say another starport is. Another tactic I like to use later on in a game when the IGs are all taken um is find a proximity around them where the owner had to trade, purchase resources, to equip the IG with defences and structures. Specially on the spice routes near them.

In regards to the actual stealing, as a rule of thumb I usually steal a little than half my exp, just to be on the safe side while turning a profit

and regarding the stealing of cargo its a safe bet to kinda feel it out, when you first start feeling your cargo hold start low and look how much exp its giving you to perform the job, if its a relatively low amount when compaired to your exp up the stakes a little, not much but a little, and check again. I have gotten to the point where I dont have to buy anything anymore (besides the things I have to buy)

This is something that I have alot of exp with.  Without the cloak of disguise you can steal half your xp in credits,  with 1 you can steal all your xp in credits.  Still messin with multiple cloaks but at the best so far I've stolen x10 my xp in credits with 3 cloaks.  as far as cargo goes, I've never had any luck with out the 3 cloaks and with 25k xp I was able to steal 25 spice at a time safely. hope this helps.
