Bioware games have always been about jedi fighting each other.  This MMO is supposed to be about a jedi/sith war.  Why should anything change?  If you WANT to play another class, you can of course.  But that's you're own choice.

For those worried about balance, don't be.  The Jedi and Sith have PLENTY of enemies who are more than capable of fighting with them on equal terms.

Well said, Haggus. People in the MMO world of choice are supposed to be the heros. And to all you people out there hating on Jedi, maybe you should look in to Stargate or Star Trek for your MMO choice. Smugglers and bounty hunters are not what makes Star Wars unique. It is the Jedi. That is what people want to play as.

Hmm, Bioware says each class will have its own storyline. So this may provide more incentive to not stick to just one character and create more - and then there is your usually reliable altholism anyway ;) I'm thinking most people will have a Jedi or Sith, and at least one more high level character on top of that.

So in the beginning the game will probably be crowded in the lightsaber wielder department, but if they balance the classes well, in the long run things may even out.

    Lets do a thought experiment...

Lets remove this from Star Wars:

-Starships (TIE Fighters, X-Wings. Star Destroyers etc)

    -Stormtroopers (The soldiers)

-Alien Races (Bothans, wokiees, Rodians etc)

-Pirates/Smuggler/Bountyhunters (The scum of a glaxy)

    -Speederbikes (Including pods)

-Alien planets (Tattooine, Endor, Coruscant etc.)

-Blasters (Laser, blaster, kinetic weapons of all kinds that are not lightsabres)

What Star Wars is left, when all but lightsabres have been removed? Nothing... Or even remove one of these above..and you still would have lost the Star Wars.

But remove the lightsabre, and Star Wars is still there.....

I think this argument is flawed. MOST of these elements will still be present in the game as far as I understand. In fact, I don't believe that any of these things will be removed (with the exception of storm troopers simply because the time period is wrong).

The concept of this game is still very much Star Wars. Nothing is more Star Wars than the idea of Jedi and mastery of the force.

The thing is... Sure, Star Wars is not about the lightsabers themselves, but it is about the lightsaber-wielders. And their discipline and belief systems. When you adjust your "thought experiment" according to that, you'll see it's going to come out a bit differently.

Even though I myself am into the Star Wars expanded universe stuff, I'd never for a moment think that your standard space opera fare like ships and weapons and lasers and alien races are more important than major characters, a good part of which are lightsaber users. Star Wars movies rely on overwhelmingly "character journey" driven stories after all. And their protoganists who are always Force wielders give the universe a good bit of its color. You can't expect to take out Luke, Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda and expect it all to work.

So, yes, there must be lightsaber wielders. The question you should ask is: Must they be playable?

I'd reckon so... Because otherwise I predict a lot of disappointed players.

I havent read up much on this game's character progression but imo, dont have a Jedi/Sith class at character creation. Once your character reaches endgame/maxlevel/pick any achievement...there is a small chance that your character can be detected as force sensitive...

Let me elaborate, I'm a bounty hunter nearing my endgame(end of my grind if there's one) at the end i might have a small chance(10%?) to be given a quest/mission saying im force sensitive and after completing that mission i choose whether to be a Jedi or a Sith. This way only 10% of the entire game populatio can be force sensitive at any given time. Since each character has the same chance, making mutliple characters increases your chances but for this to happen, the PVE content has to be really strong.

There can be no hard feelings about this since everyone who's playing knows this.

OR, my post is total bullshit :D

That sounds too much like old school SWG. People need to realize that Bioware has no intention of making anything that remotely resembles pre-NGE SWG. If that is what you are waiting for, there is no hope... resign yourself to that fact now and be happier down the line.

Don't get me wrong, I loved SWG back in those days, but this game does not have the same focus at all. This game is about the war between the Jedi and the Sith. It would not make sense if only 10% of the characters in it were force sensitive. EVERY character must at least have that option... and I believe that is what they have in mind.

If any of you have not yet played Knights of the Old Republic, I strongly suggest that you do. It might be a little dated at this point, but it should show you where the majority of the insipiration for this game is coming from.

Just wait for the RMT Wizard class in Lorto where you have to spend 6 months grinding only for Turbine to make them a starting class.

Ah well, i havent played SWG so i dont really know how it worked there. I have played KOTOR games on the other hand and yea i can understand what you mean. Only thing im trying to convey is that a force sensitive character should transcend from your existing character. This gives your character more depth.

Sounds like a generic sci-fi space opera game to me.

Jedi should be special, not "Click... Your a Jedi!"

Great, another one from the "I want Jedi to be rare... except for me!" crowd that screwed up SWG in the first place.

Please, for the love of Jar Jar, get it through your thick skull this is NOT supposed to be SWG 2.

Well bioware's games are great in general so, i wouldnt be dissappointed.  I mean i would love to be a jedi, but i ratehr be something else.  Like a bounty hunter or a sith soldier

Give it some time.. I'm sure Turbine will implement Wizards and Rangers in a future expansion, perhaps when Mordor is released? Makes logical sense to me...

Maybe I don't understand what the argument is about but...

Jedi/Sith aren't rare during this time period...so why shouldn't they be playable? It fits the lore, it fits the time period, it fits the purpose of the game Jedi vs Sith.

I personally hope they add a pikeman or force power specific class. I don't want to use a lightsaber as much as I want to blugeon someone to death or choke them into submission.

God you jedi/sith haters are pathetic.  I garantee it a lot of people like you will not be jedi.  Oh but wait your the ONLY ONE IN THIS WORLD that seems to be worreid about it.

I personally am going to be jedi but don't be a moron there will be plenty of other classes if you don't want to see any jedi/sith then go play your lame world of warcraft.  This game will rule I just hope the combats not as gay as all other mmo's :).

What I've heard this game is based on the timeline after KotOR2? If I remember right all the jedi were wiped out from the galaxy or something like that in the end of KotOR2. You either hunted down last of them or they died at the academy before going to the last planet.

I dont hate the jedi/sith I just hope they are balanced like any other class in this game.

As long as I can be a wookie, I will play this game.

I'd prefer to be a wookie droid engineer than a jedi, but if it's a "jedi vs jedi" game then I'll still play it.

But only if I can be a wookie!

In LOTRO you couldn't play a Wizard because in the Lore it was clearly stated that there only were a select number of wizards in the entire world of Middle-Earth, each one tasked with a specific mission in the world. They were not human by definition, they were a race by themselves.

Being too powerful was only a secondary reason.

As for Jedi in ToR. Sheesh people...this discussion has been done to death. The decision on that is already made (or so it would appear).

you mean, exactly like star wars? when swg was at the point after order 66...when there was only a select few jedi left. guess what, they are all over the place in that game.

Bioware wasn't responsible for KotOR II. That was Obsidian. Regardless, this is supposed to be set approximately three hundred after the original game.

Just one of the multitude of inconsistencies with SWG and the era it was supposed to be set in.

when half the of the gaming population is a jedi, it will lose its charm and desire incredibly quick.

it'll become just another class swinging a glowing bat around.

  • UruktosUruktos Member Posts: 153

Don't care as long as its done properly. It's KOTOR time anyways, there are lots of Jedi/Sith active on that period, even after the Jedi Civil War.

I don't play games for their charm.

It appears that 90% of the population will be jedi or sith.  I know it sucks, but Bioware is a good company that may be able to pull it off with some authenticity feel to it.  Time will tell, but like you, I am hoping that jedi are few and far between.
