Filler Game/Real Game

neschrianeschria Member UncommonPosts: 1,406

I am looking for a low-spec filler game for the next three months-- not too particular, but prefer one WITHOUT built-in AFK botting. (If I wanted a game to not play, I'd download Progress Quest.)  P2P and F2P with fluff item malls are fine. I am sort of looking for a game that might be a decent stand-in for my husband's EQ1 addiction, so something we could start together that offers a hardcore, complex, or raiding experience would be great.

Also looking for recommendations for a recent release game after those three months, any specs. (Now that my husband's laptop is starting to falter, suddenly new PCs *are* in the budget.   )

I apologize for my lack of detail and the brevity of this post. Gotta dash.

So P2P would be ok? We'll I'll suggest a few of both. You could get Guild Wars, and you and your husband could quest together and such, it's a decent filler game. Or if you can afford a P2P game, you guys could get LOTRO (More of a permanent game than a filler) or CoX (I consider this an excellent filler :P). You may want to try Runes of Magic, another free game also, it's mostly centered on PvE content.

Ya Guild Wars is a good choice. You could also try Runescape, which in my opinion is the ultimate filler game. No download because it's browser based but is graphical and 3D.  About a year ago they updated the game that wiped bots out, so you should like that too.

You could always try World of Warcraft too. Low specs and all that jazz. It has raiding and a lot of hardcore elements to it too.

    Hope that Helps.

Guild Wars looks like it just might be the thing! Thanks. I am not sure which box to buy though-- the original game, one of the expansions (they are stand-alone, right?) or the trilogy box I see on Amazon?

All his friends and the customers in his shop keep trying to get him to try WoW again, but he's got his heels dug in on that one. He played 3 years ago and got bored. I've pointed out that if someone told him that they played EQ three years ago, he'd tell them they didn't know anything about the game as it is now, so there's no telling what WoW is like now, especially if he picks up where he left off instead of starting at level 1.

Every thing but Eye of the North is stand alone, or Eye of the north may be stand alone too, but I cant confirm that.

As far as which Guild Wars campaign to get, I'd either go with Factions because it comes with Aliance Battling (which is the best PvP in GW) or Prophecies, just because it was the first one. Don't get me wrong, Nightfall is great but the other two just have more to offer.
