It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
This game sucks so terribly hard. The tutorials don't work, they just don't. Continue buttons never appear, the 2nd tutorial never tells you how to set a jump point, and even if you set your own, its never the right one, so you can't progress beyond the 2nd tutorial. This was after having to delete my first character (and create another one with a different name) to get the first tutorial working, cause I could never get a Continue button for the mission.
Asking for help resulted in being told to read the mission log, or asking me questions about things I had no clue about, because I was new to game TRYING to learn the interface. When I said I didn't know answers, i was insulted as an idiot and that I should go back to WoW (never played WoW anyways).
Horrible community, if you can call it that, with the 10 ppl that play this game. Guess there's a reason only 10 people play it...it's broke.
Comments
First I've heard of issues like yours. And oddly...although I've seen some really idiotic questions from n00bs, I've never heard anyone say "go back to wow".
Odd. A lot of people have joined the game in the last 12 days, and I've not heard of any problems with the tutorial. I've not had a problem with it myself either.
I don't know what to tell you. Oddly enough I don't see any post about this issue in the support forums. Did you not make one??
What platform are you running? Which renderer were you using??
I think that if someone told you to press "m" for mission log, that even someone trying to learn the interface could probably find the M button on their keyboard.
I'm just a bit confused here.
I tried this game via the free trial on this site and I had no problems at all with the OP's complaints. Missions worked perfectly and I played out my free time. But I did read what was displayed on the screeen. Maybe that had something to do with it. The community (though small) was always helpful whenever I asked a question. This game could use some graphic updates though. Not a bad game at all.
Sersi, you can get a 30 day trial from mmorpg.com, in case you didn't know.
This will give you time to see what the end game is like, and roll some alts, etc.
OP honestly I remember watching you throw that fit you call asking for help through our IRC relay and I have to say something I don't normaly like saying, you are exactly the kind of impatitant person who shouldn't be playing VO. Seriously don't expect an answer to poorly worded questions right then and there, everyone else is playing the game and someone will reply as soon as they have a free second.
I knew about the Mission window. The missions plain didn't work. Tutorial Mission 1 broke, when i disconnected, no big deal, disconnections can cause problems.
I deleted char, and re-created it (wtih same name) and first mission was still bugged (and the game didn't really delete the entire character). So I deleted that char, and made a new one, with new name. Got thru first missions.
Then, second mission, got stuck. Had to abort mission, then try again and it worked.
Then 3rd mission got stuck again and I quit.
When asking for help, I was treated like a complete moron. Admitted, I was noob, and there may have been things I was doing wrong, but when a noob asks for help they shouldn't have to weed through the wise-ass comments and typical "Go back to WoW" comments to fnd the helpful responses.
I did post an error report (not on forums, there's a place on the website - https://www.vendetta-online.com/x/support and i've yet to hear back a response.
The support is non-existant. The community is full of arrogant assholes that obviously want no one else in their community.
Thank god for free trials, cause if I had paid for this game, I would be very disappointed.
EDIT: And just found this - http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/2536559
Granted this person didn't clarify, but I'm not the only one that had a "bad experience" in this game.
lol....yeah...if you had paid for a free game, you probably WOULD be pissed.
Sorry there wasn't a full support staff to jump right on your issue on a holiday.
Whatever. Jeff hit the nail on the head in this case, I am afraid.
Pentamorph and hentai_jeff, you two epitomize the community in this game. Enjoy you're 10 person MMO.
And Pentamorph, the game is not free. Currently, the Free Trial only comes through the MMORPG.com site. To play the game, you get 8 free hours (MMORPG.com keys give you 30 days). After 8 hours you have to pay for a month. This is not a free game. Previously, when the game first went to retail, there were CDs to buy to get the game.
I never complained about the support staff. I submitted my bug report and instead of just waiting, I asked the community and was met with complete assholes.
Try it yourself, create a new character, and ask a noob question, or mention how you're having a problem with some of the game mechanics or missions and see if you can read a useful response through the pile of wise-ass comments you receive, go ahead and try it.
So I went back to the forums, on the VO website looking for anyone else having issues with Missions and came across a post in this thread -
http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/20377
"Earlier my son was on and said that someone did ask a question about the grey space sector boxes showing bot's present when none were actually there and all the guy got was a ration of crap - read the manual noob, don't ask dumb questions, learn to read the map etc.... which speaks poorly of them."
Hmmm, still think it's an isolated incident? Needless to say, I found nothing on the whole missions errors. Guess I could have tried re-installing or re-downloading the game, but the community has already pushed me away from trying anything more.
lol....I just started the game myself 14 days ago. I had no problem with the tutorial, people have been helpful and friendly answering my questions (as long as they weren't answered in the tutorial) and geneerally the experience has rocked.
I see new players joining the game every day. I see their questions answered. The thing is, you can't expect everyone to stop what they are doing to cater to you when you demand that they do so.
A lot of the vets of VO are Linux users. There's an old Linux expression that I believe sums up the situation quite well:
RTFM. (Read the fucking manual)
THEN ask questions that are not covered in said manual if you still need to.
Edit: oh, and there is no charge for the game itself, just the monthly fee. There is no box fee, download fee, or otherwise. You get to try before you buy. This is good. It weeds out the people who can't be fucked to read the goddamn manual.
spintz, for someone who couldn't get past the third tutorial, you sure hate this game. Do I detect a hidden agenda? Methinks thou doth protest too much.
Spintz we only do things like that to immature ppl who can't wait like what happened with you. it stands to reason with nearly 7 billion ppl on earth there's gonna be more then one immature person who stumbles upon a game.
I don't hate the game as much as I do the asshole filled community (the fact that the majority of them them are Linux and Mac users explains a lot). And as I've pointed out, it's not just myself that has had bad experiences with the community. Making excuses for this kind of treatment is just sad.
The game has bugs, every game has bugs. Apparently, as is evident from the responses here, if you come across bugs, it must be your faulty, ou just don't know how to play, so you should RTFM and try again. Oh, the other gem of advice from these Linux asswipes, "boot into safe-mode and delete the windowssystem32 folder". You've got to be kidding me. That's worse than the old "Alt+F4 will give you a power up" advice!
Anyways, the compaints from even veteran players are there's really nothing to do. The game only has combat, escort missions, mining asteroids (for no purpose what-so-ever) and courier/trade missions. That's it. Saying it's coming, is not acceptable, the game was "released" 4 years ago, and is still in beta and hasn't had these features implemented in 4 years. They claim the game is updated more than any other game in the industry, but in the years that it's been out, it's had virtually nothing added. The graphics are amateur at best, the spaceships models look like monopoly game pieces.
And Pentamorph, are you serious, in 14 days you've become such a fanboy. You're first response to me is "I've heard of issues like yours", but now it's RTFM and other such pearls of wisdom.....
Well, as long as you're objective...
Spintz, honestly the game does get updated more then alot of games out there, maybe not more then any others in the industry but far beyond what you would expect from a 4 man crew. either way the fact remains that you never asked nicely for help and just demanded help. While we want new ppl we really don't want the immature n00bish ppl, rather we want the newbs people willing to learn and become a good part of the community.
Don't misquote me. I said "First I've heard of issues like yours" , meaning, this is the first I've heard of these issues.
Second off, don't call me a fanboy, Troll. I just happen to know a good game when I play it. I've played a LOT of fucking MMOs over the years. 90% of them have have FAR more bugs than VO has. It's one of the most bug-free games I've played.
And before you start bitching about a lack of things to do in VO, maybe you shold play the game first??
Oh yeah...right...you couldn't figure out the tutorial....
when i 1st tried out vendetta back when it first launched it was ok, now its full of twats like the above poster.
Lol, Penta went back and edited his post....ROFL!!!
Why do you keep thinking I had trouble with the missions? Are you trying to insult me? Please explain to me how I can possibly screw it up so a Continue button never shows up. Or how to get the 2nd mission to not create the Nav Jump point? Please do explain these obvious user errors to me, I'm just too much of an idiot. Maybe I'm "Word-Blind" and can't see buttons with the work Continue in them. Maybe I have the inability to find the green + on my radar and fly to it, to get to the jump point that was never set for me.
QFT. I ased for help. I was insulted. I quit (after throwing back a few colorful insults of my own, cause I'm just that kind of guy). Go back to your "Massive" 50 player game fanboys.
You're delusional. If I had edited my post, it would tell you that I had, and at what time the edit took place.
However, I believe you have pretty much summed up the problem you had in this post. You couldn't figure it out, had a temper tantrum, and now you're trolling...poorly, I might add.
anf just so you know what it looks like, because you seem to have problems with this sort of thing:
I'm a newcomer in this game (got 1 month trial here at mmorpg.com). Just want to say, tutorials works for me - I completed them all with no problems. Probably, bug about Spintz told is specific for his computer configuration?
On my taste game graphics not best of all, but good enough for space game (especially on highest video settings), battle and movement model is very nice, especially if you played with joystick. But possibility to buy ships and weapons limited by your skills, but really no money limits and already lowlevel players got so much useless money - there is something wrong with economic model, imho.
I can't say the game is bad, but can't say what game is the best in space RPG genre. This is an interesting roleplay with good abilities for space SIM fans. And game may be more popular only if developers will continue to improve game world and bring new features.
Well, the money is not useless. Once you start flying ships that cost several hundred thousand credits, and getting into PVP...you'll realise that you NEED all that money. Ships are expensive, and you'll be replacing them VERY frequently.
The devs are claiming that they have new ship models and graphics on the burner somewhere, by the way. I don't really care personally...I don't mind the way things look now.
Just a couple things, first the continue button will only pop up when/if you meet the requirements for the mission. Second, in the early missions it won't plot you a nav point so that you can learn to do it yourself. It tells you what sector to go to you open the navigation screen and plot your own route. It is called a tutorial not a gimme. Yes some trolls in the community can be crass at times so some of your responses were probably just as you say but most of us aren't.
I just did the tutorial tonight and the game worked fine and without error. There was another guy on at the time though that was having many problems and was asking a lot of questions that even I with my 1 hour of experience could answer. The guy admitted that tutorial had too much reading for him, and I agree if you don’t read the stuff you could have some problems.

My opinion about Vendetta is very close to that of redsilence. The problem with your view, Pentamorph, is that for european players PVP is almost no option due to slow oversee connections. I really would like to love that game (not at least because of its native, clean Linux client), I also wouldn't mind to be excluded from PVP, but with such a strange economy that only makes sense in a PVP environment there's really no go for me. The flight pyhsics are also a bit too compromised in my book, difficulty (as in pseudo-realism) like in JGC would be absolutely minimum for my taste.
Just did the trial myself and so far I'm diggin it. No problems aside from a laggy mouse (not sure why). The tutorial was ok for the first few steps but got got right after that. Askin me to go kill 10 bot had me killing 20 cause it was fun. I can see where it would become a grind. What MMO isn't at one point or another?
