Little question about DF

LeKinKLeKinK Member Posts: 899

Since there won't be any level grinding in this game, what will be the main focus of the game?  I know, pvp, but if there are no levels is there gonna be quest?  Because the only reason I do quest is to level my toons and sometime for the reward.

Are all the quest gonna be reward quest only?  Let's say there is an endgame dungeon in the game, then when is endgame if there is no level?  You start up on day 1, get a raid together and go for the endgame loot?  Or maybe the quest will "open" new section of map? New lair?  But they say everything is open at anytime..

Kill 50 mobs x and you can go to the next map?  Or kill 50 players?

Anyone know how the quest system is going to work?

What would you do in the real world if someone would kidnap you and put you out some remote place that seems strange to you and you don't know about and its far away ?

Have you seen 'Lost' the series? what they do  after they crash on the island ? Give you some ideas ...explore to know enviroment, detect and uncover mysterys, get organized in teams and groups, watch for the "others" ..that will you keep occupied for a while..LOL

Now think that will happen  not in RL just in a game world ..There is no best path , try to find our own and put you small goals at start , that will be your "Quests"

The problem with your post.   No Grinding.   WRONG.   It's an MMO.   Grinding is in,  but instead of grinding for a level, you'll be grinding for skill.  Grinding for materials,  Grinding for fun.

Ewwww, stomach acid rising up my throat, talk about an oxymoron. Unfotunately it sounds like a book, they should put it in the collectors editions of most games, 'Gringing for fun, a beginners guide'.

This is just guess... Probably as already said you will grind skills and equipment, skills = level in other games. So it is same shit again...

It probably wont take as long to get maxed in a skill though as it would say getting lvl 70 in wow and atleast you will be grinding for specific skills that you want. Anyway though the grinding will be disguised in Darkfall as you dont have to grind to get to the next level so that means you can move onto new mobs or a new area regardless of your level it will just be player skill and immediate power of your character, Thats one of the beauty's of a skillbased system, its less to do with your mathmatical level and more to do with player skill so you will be alot less restricted in where you can go to kill things for whatever reason you desire.

Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...

Maybe this is where you are confused. The whole "premise" behind Darkfall is that you won't have to grind "for fun". You can make a brand new character and immediately go exploring in the world. Your "grinding for skills" comes automatic as you get better in the things that you participate in.

Want to become an archer? Well the more you pull back that bow the better you'll get. You don't "have" to do anything. You don't "have" to go anywhere. You can sit in a town and relax for all you care.

That's the difference many of us are looking forward to. You don't have to do quest chain A to get to level B. You play how you want to play, and thus by doing so, you get better in the things you want to get better in.

Its a sandbox MMO. You can do whatever you want, when you want to do it. Just as in real life.

If you feel as travel across the world to see how it looks like, you can do that, or looking for a dungeon. But the world (the players) wont just wave at you when you travel past them, it will interfer and maybe try and stop you...or help you. Anything goes. The whole game consits of endgame or noobgame..its up to you!

And this will be main problem for all themepark players, no guidance you have to figure it out all by yourself.

No start from lvl1 to 70 doing quest or killing mobs none of that, will be funny to see how all these ex/themepark players cope with this:)

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....

Well, that can technically be said of any MMO.

In UO, EQ, AC, WoW, SWG, EQ2, LoTRo, WAR, AoC, etc...

In all those games you didn't "have" to do anything.  You don't "have" to go anywhere.  You could just sit in town and relax for all you care.

See... that statement is kinda what ALL MMOs are about.  You don't really "have" to do anything.

Now if you want to progress and advance your character on the other hand... now you'll "have" to do something.  In that regards, DarkFall will be no different.

If you want to progress your skills you are going to need to do stuff.

You are going to need money for training some skills.

You are going to need money to do crafting, or buy things from vendors/crafters.

You are going to need money for a mount.

You are going to need to find trainers for the higher skills.

You are going to need to explore to find what you need to advance your skills.

So yeah, you don't "have" to do anything... just like any other MMO.  I got a feeling that would get kinda boring pretty fast though... just like in any other MMO.

Oh I already posted a thread on the Darkfall forums stating that I think over 90% of the people coming from games like World of Warcraft (and I only state that game because it's the most well known), will quit within the first couple of days to (maybe) weeks, ESPECIALLY the first time they're PKed and their full body of loot is looted.

It's simple, most people WILL NOT be able to handle Darkfall, and that's perfectly fine, because I'm honestly getting sick and tired of playing with those kind of people anyway

DarkFall will have some quests to help orient players to the game.

Obviously not as many as "themepark" MMOs.

But there are "Starter" Quests in the Cities that we start in.  At least according to the Devs and the Beta reviews that we've seen.  I suppose they could be wrong though.

This is where Darkfall claims to be different. Yes, you'll need money to do things, but you can do it so many different ways.

Do you want to craft and sell items for money? Then fine.

Do you want to go and kill some poor sap and loot his body? Fine.

How about getting your guild to go sneak into a player run city and kill them and take their bank's gold? Sure.

That's why I'm excited, because unlike most MMOs that are linear, in Darkfall there will be numerous ways to get to the same end, it's really on what you decide.

i so agree, most those players will QQ and then un-subscribe right away... I will like that as I like to play hardcore modes (one life and if u die it's permanent... god i will miss hellgate lol)...i killed other players in hardcore mode in hellgate, and one thing i can say about them, they never complained like the WoW babies... the simply deleted theirl lvl 50 character and started back from scratch... and so i have much respect for them.. and it seem this will attrack that type of gamer, w/ that type of honor about dying and just continuing on..  my only wish for DF now is that they should make death permanent :P, so it seperates the real hardcore players from the QQers.

Haha, I used to love playing hardcore Hellgate... it's sad that most players nowadays think of what an MMO should be and always has been as the "WoW' crowd. It wasn't, and it wasn't until WoW came around and ruined the genre that things changed.

But in terms of Darkfall, I think with how easily it is to die in that game (supposedly), guilds would never be able to organize and create keeps and cities if death was permanent. I like the fact that you revive with underpants and three crap weapons to be fun enough

Tasos hasn't really stated how this is going to work. He HAS said that certain "bank" like storage places can be looted or the lock picked, but that other types of banks cannot. I guess we'll just have to wait and see

It's simple, most people WILL NOT be able to handle Darkfall, and that's perfectly fine, because I'm honestly getting sick and tired of playing with those kind of people anyway

i so agree, most those players will QQ and then un-subscribe right away... The problem with your post.   No Grinding.   WRONG.   It's an MMO.   Grinding is in,  but instead of grinding for a level, you'll be grinding for skill.  Grinding for materials,  Grinding for fun.

    Yes.

And that would entail "having" to do something in order to advance your character.

Obviously players should choose to play a MMO that they find fun.  So, if some players find playing a mainly PvE game that focuses on quests in order to advance your character fun, then why should I disparage them?

I guess I don't see that as any different than some players finding fun in playing a mainly PvP game that focuses on advancing skills in order to advance your character.

Different MMOs appeal to different people.  Each MMO will have a particular way in which you advance your character.   It's up to us as players to find the MMO which we have the most fun in advancing our character.

Hopefully DarkFall will provide those players who have fun in advancing thier character through a skill-based method an enjoyable playing experience.  If the Release date holds, we should be able to find that out soon.

Every Skill has levels 1-100 and each skill point is increased by xp gained byy using it.

    Kingdom/Empire Building/PvP

    Dungeons/Questing

Crafting/ recipies and researching recipies /component gathering and more

Features to add excitement: FFA PVP , Full Loot , rep systems to limit PKers/Griefers

Very complex Clan set-up and management features.

    No Endgame

Very powerful mobs exist Dragons / Gods Avatars and more search them out , knowing DFO the quest system wont involve following flashing question marks and exclamation marks with 27 guides in tow.

Anyway those are a few of the think, I would suggest you goto the DFO forums, lots of news and dev journals that explain whats in a lot more upto date than the website. Also extensive stickies with known feaatures and latest sources of info.

There is a thread around asking why all the hate for the Darkfall community.

    Here a good example.

When I see skill based system I immediately think of EVE. Sure, you can fly into unsecure space from the first moment you're in game and look for million ISK bounties to blow up. But you're in a rookie ship with little to no targeting/shooting ability, thus you get your face knocked in.

Same thing in DF. You train up skills so you can use better weapons and armor, fight tougher opponents, gain fame or a ton of money or do whatever you please. You train as a crafter to make better items and get money. It's about developing your character however you please.

Before everyone decides how they will play their non-thempark, sandbox, best game ever cause the WoWer QQers will run away screaming, let's have it come out first.

But I will be all monk style fighter/crafter

I am not a hard core pvp, but I will build a char to hold it's own while they're making your items.
